Chapter Benson 278
Chapter 278: Underlying Currents
Yvonne looked up to find Benson standing in front of her. His expression carried a mix of concern and dissatisfaction, clearly noticing her troubles. He casually poked her forehead as if teasing her for being so worried.
“What are you thinking about? Your brows are all knotted up,” he said with a light, playful tone, though his eyes betrayed a hint of worry.
Yvonne was startled by his gesture and stepped back slightly, feeling uneasy. “Don’t you have anything better to do than show up here every day?”
“I’m chasing you. How could I not come?” Benson’s smile was warm, and his tone carried an undeniable affection.
His gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he instinctively closed the file on her desk. “First, let’s eat something.”
“Maybe in a few days, I won’t be able to come. I need to go on a business trip,” he mentioned casually.
At the door, Megan saw Benson, gave him a quick glance, and then decisively closed the door. Her expression was a bit uneasy, clearly unsettled by the sudden changes.
Benson’s pursuit of Yvonne had become increasingly public, with him showing up at the company every day, attentive and eager. This behavior not only put a lot of pressure on Yvonne but also unintentionally sparked a series of reactions.
The media’s enthusiastic coverage of Benson’s actions attracted more attention, especially concerning his previously acknowledged “girlfriend,” Mary. Unlike before, Mary did not receive the same warm treatment from the media. Instead, during one interview, she was forced to address her feelings about Benson, bursting into tears and presenting a heartbroken image.
Her emotional display made her seem pitiful and led many to suspect that Yvonne might have come between her and Benson. These rumors quickly spread across the internet, with people questioning if Yvonne had indeed become a third party in their relationship.
As Yvonne read these reports, her expression grew darker, a cold smile playing on her lips. “I’ve been too busy to deal with her, and now she’s digging her own grave.”
Megan stood nearby, her face serious. “With Caesar Plaza’s opening coming up, any negative news could be really damaging for us.”
Just as everyone was worrying, Benson quickly issued a response. He publicl
clarified his relationship with Mary, stating that they had no personal ties beyond professional collaboration. This swift and clear statement temporarily quelled the external speculation, but soon after, the situation took a dramatic turn.
As the news continued to circulate, an audio recording was leaked, in the recording, Mary’s voice was cold and threatening as she instructed someone to drug and film a victim, aiming to ruin their reputation. Even more shocking, the whistleblower claimed to have evidence, and the perpetrator had already been detained by law enforcement.
The release of this audio destroyed Mary’s reputation almost instantly, Brands quickly terminated their contracts with her, and she was removed from previously promoted film projects.
Mary never anticipated that things would spiral out of control like this. The position she had fought so hard to secure crumbled due to one interview and an audio recording. Her face twisted with anger and resentment. “He found someone who could replace me, and yet he’s still openly pursuing her!”
She sat in an empty room, the sparse furniture around her making the space feel especially desolate. Sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting mottled shadows on the floor. Mary’s eyes were filled with sorrow and despair. She knew that her world had been turned upside down and that her future was now uncertain,
Her fingers tapped weakly on the table as she replayed everything between Benson and Yvonne in her mind, feeling utterly defeated. This outcome was something she had never imagined, and now, facing the consequences, she couldn’t accept the reality of being completely discarded.
Mary clutched the phone tightly, her voice trembling. She sat in the dimly lit room, with only a faint light from a small table lamp casting a dull glow. Her clothes were wrinkled, her makeup smudged, and her hair disheveled. She looked utterly disheveled, as if she had just weathered a fierce storm.
“What’s going on? Didn’t you say they wouldn’t end up together? What is this?” Mary’s voice was filled with anger and disappointment as she gripped the phone, her nails digging into her skin.
The man on the other end of the line was silent for a moment, seemingly deep in thought. “Don’t worry, I’m working on it…”
“You’re always ‘working on it,‘ but it’s useless!” Mary’s voice was filled with a desperate rage. “I don’t have time to wait for your so–called solutions anymore. Yvonne and Benson are already getting together, and my reputation is completely ruined!”

There was another pause on the other end of the line before the man finally spoke.” If you think I’m useless, then you can clean up your own mess.”
Mary’s heart surged with anger and helplessness at these words. She knew her capabilities were limited, but at this moment, her emotions were spiraling out of control. She bit her lip, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself down.
“You know I don’t have the ability to handle this on my own. I need your help.”
The night had deepened, and the room was eerily quiet, with only the ticking of a clock echoing in the stillness. Mary looked down at the floor, tears welling in her eyes. Her voice took on a pleading and sorrowful tone.
“You know me… I don’t have to go against Yvonne, but she’s been digging into the past. If she really finds evidence, I might end up in jail.”
The man’s gaze softened as he listened to Mary’s plea. He knew what she had done for him in the past, taking risks and making sacrifices that no one else knew about. Now, seeing her in such despair and helplessness, he couldn’t help but feel guilty. “Yvonne and Benson getting together… it won’t be easy,” the man finally said, his tone thoughtful,
Mary frowned slightly, still not fully understanding. “Why? Isn’t Yvonne an attractive person?”
“Yvonne is very attractive,” the man repeated before continuing, “She’s beautiful, comes from a good family, and is smart. If she wasn’t attractive, how could she have, caught the eye of someone as picky as Benson?”
Mary nodded, reluctantly acknowledging the truth. She knew Yvonne was indeed someone who could captivate everyone around her. Her allure wasn’t just in her looks but also in her intelligence and confidence.
“And then?” Mary asked, her voice tinged with urgency.
The man continued to gaze at Mary, his expression weary. “Ever since Benson was drugged by the Taylor family servants, his marriage has been out of his control. The harder he tries, the more disappointed he’ll likely be.”
