Chapter Benson 274
Chapter 274 Breaking to Rebuild
“So,” she began slowly, her voice tinged with hesitation and thought, “you want to be my boyfriend to make Benson back off?”
Jeremy nodded, his tone calm yet resolute. “Exactly. I’d be happy to do it. I think it’s the best way to get him to stop bothering you. You know, Yvonne, only by seeing that you’ve moved on will he possibly let go.”
Yvonne’s gaze returned to Jeremy’s face, her eyelashes fluttering slightly, giving her a soft and vulnerable appearance. Her eyes were deep and bright, as if she could see through everything.
She leaned back in her chair, contemplating for a moment before speaking slowly.” It’s a good idea, Jeremy, but I’m not agreeing to it.”
Jeremy raised an eyebrow, surprised. “Why not?”
Yvonne pressed her lips together, her tone firm. “If I want a boyfriend, it won’t be to use him as a shield. I’d want it because I like him.”
A wry smile appeared on Jeremy’s face. He understood what Yvonne meant. She wasn’t the type to treat relationships as tools. She was looking for a genuine emotional connection, not something driven by strategy or convenience.
Just like in her marriage with Benson, Yvonne had insisted on the divorce because she felt controlled and constrained in that relationship, unable to receive the emotional nourishment she needed. She longed for freedom and authenticity, not a false sense of harmony.
“Unless one day I genuinely fall for you,” Yvonne continued, her tone carrying a hint of self–deprecation, “I won’t start anything with you.”
Jeremy found himself both amused and frustrated. He shook his head, his gaze filled with a mix of helplessness and admiration. “Do you always have to be this straightforward?”
Yvonne nodded slightly, a faint smile playing on her lips. “Being straightforward isn’t so bad. I think my marriage failed partly because I wasn’t straightforward enough.”
Her voice held a trace of resolve–this was her reflection on the past and a promise. to herself for the future.
Jeremy smiled, his admiration for this strong and decisive woman growing. He knew Yvonne had been through a lot and had learned much along the way. She was no longer the girl who made decisions on a whim but a woman who understood what she wanted. And this Yvonne commanded even more respect.
With that personal topic momentarily set aside, they shifted their conversation to
work. The restaurant’s almosphere was relaxed and pleasant, with the low murmur of other diners and the light clinking of cutlery creating a lively yet intimate setting.
Jeremy pulled out a document from his bad and handed it to Yvonne. “With the
current progress on the Caesar Plaza project, reopening on May 25th shouldn’t be a problem.”
