Chapter Benson 273
Chapter 273: Long Time No See
“I feel empty when I don’t see you,” Benson suddenly spoke in the darkness, his voice deep and hoarse, as if coming from a distant place. “But when I see you, my heart feels heavy. Yvonne, I really feel like I’ve wronged you.”
Yvonne didn’t respond. His voice, lonely and helpless in the darkness, only made the silence more poignant. She closed her eyes, trying to calm herself, but each of his words was like a small knife, lightly carving new wounds into her heart.
Her mind was in turmoil, filled with his words. Did he really understand what he had done wrong? Did he think a simple “sorry” could make up for years of disappointment and hurt?
She closed her eyes, feeling a sense of helplessness rise from deep within. Was she supposed to stay entangled with him just because he kept acting like this? If so, what was the point of their divorce?
Yvonne lay in the dark, thinking for a long time, her worries tangled like a ball of yarn. She even thought that if she were the one who had lost her memory, maybe everything would be simpler. She could forget all the accumulated disappointments and the hurtful choices he had made. But the reality was that Benson had forgotten, while she hadn’t. She still remembered all the little things that had once pierced her
heart.
As thoughts churned in her mind, Yvonne found it impossible to sleep. It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that she finally drifted into a light sleep, exhausted.
When Yvonne woke up the next morning, she found herself on the hospital bed, not knowing when she had been moved there. Benson was holding her gently in his arms, his movements unusually tender, as if she were a precious treasure. His embrace was warm and firm, a stark contrast to the coldness and distance of the
past.
Yvonne frowned slightly. Such closeness and tenderness had been rare in their marriage. As she tried to recall, she realized that sleeping like this had almost never been a luxury they shared.
She gently moved Benson’s hand from around her waist, careful not to disturb his sleep, and quietly got out of bed.
Yvonne walked out of the room and saw Arthur leaning against the wall, lost in thought. She sighed softly and slowed her steps as she approached him.
“Arthur,” she called quietly, her voice tinged with exhaustion.
Arthur looked up, his eyes showing concem. “I came over and saw you both were still asleep, so I waited outside.”
Yvonne acknowledged with a small “oh,” her heart filled with an inexplicable mix of emotions. Not wanting to dwell on the topic, she briefly explained a few things
before leaving hurriedly for work.
The morning sunlight streamed through the windows into the hallway, glaringly bright. She walked quickly out of the hospital, as if trying to escape the weight and confusion.
Meanwhile, in the hospital room, Benson was visibly exhausted after the night’s ordeal. After the doctor finished his rounds and prescribed some medication, advising him to rest well, Benson simply nodded silently.
He didn’t touch his breakfast and soon drifted back to sleep, too tired to stay awake. He slept until noon, waking with a headache that felt like it was being pounded by a hammer.
Sitting on the hospital bed, he pressed his hands against his temples, his brow furrowed, and looked utterly worn out.
Arthur entered the room and, seeing Benson’s condition, couldn’t help but ask, ” What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Benson merely shook his head, not speaking, just staring blankly at the headboard.
Arthur, seeing that Benson didn’t want to talk, didn’t press the matter further. He had other things to handle, so after giving a few instructions, he left the room.
A little while later, George came in holding some documents. When he saw Benson leaning against the headboard, his face pale as paper, George couldn’t help but feel worried. He walked over to the bed and asked in a low voice, “Boss, are you alright?”
Benson glanced at him, his voice carrying a mix of fatigue and irritation. “Is your leg fully healed?”
George was caught off guard by the sudden question, his heart skipping a beat. Then he forced a wry smile and said, “Boss, so you only lost your memory for one day?”
Benson’s expression instantly turned cold, his gaze sharp as a knife. “What’s wrong with you?”
George, feeling a bit intimidated by Benson’s icy stare, nevertheless pressed on, What’s wrong with me? If you hadn’t lost your memory, do you think Yvonne would still be around? She wouldn’t have anything to do with you.” His tone carried a hint of sarcasm but was mostly filled with concern.

Benson snorted dismissively, as if indifferent. “Do you think I care about that heartless woman?”
George looked at him and sighed inwardly. He moved closer to Benson’s bed, his tone slightly teasing. “Have you forgotten how pathetic you were yesterday? You were willing to risk your life, sitting outside her house. Want to see the security footage for a refresher? You’re stubborn, I’ll give you that. But tell me, do you want your pride, or do you want your wife?”
Benson’s face stiffened, a flicker of struggle passing through his eyes, but he quickly suppressed it. He pressed his lips together tightly, clearly unwilling to continue the conversation, and just shot George a cold look, remaining silent.
Meanwhile, Yvonne had returned to the office. After being away for several days, her desk was piled high with documents and tasks, and she had a mountain of backlog to tackle.
The Caesar Plaza project was her main focus lately, with a workload so heavy it left her feeling breathless. As she worked through the files, she listened to Megan’s reports. Megan mentioned that Jeremy had been there for the past two days.
Hearing this, Yvonne’s expression changed slightly. “Why didn’t you tell me?” There was a hint of anxiety and unease in her voice.
Megan looked at her with a touch of resignation in her eyes but said nothing. Yvonne paused, realizing her own lapse in composure, and understood Megan’s silence. Even if Megan had told her, there was nothing she could have done, given that she was effectively locked up by Benson and unable to leave.
The B.R. project had reached the final stages of inspection and acceptance. Jeremy had personally come to oversee it, showing just how important this project was to him. This only added to Yvonne’s stress, making her worry even more about their future collaboration.
“You didn’t tell him about the situation at home, did you?”
Yvonne asked quietly, trying to keep her voice calm, though her inner anxiety was evident.
Megan shook her head, her tone firm with a touch of humor, “Talk bad about the boss to a business partner? Am I crazy, or do I have a death wish?”
Yvonne smiled slightly, feeling tired but still managing a faint smile. She knew that no matter what happened, she couldn’t afford to show any signs of weakness at work.
So she returned to her office and decided to take care of one important matter first:

But Womme stook her head seriously and raised her glass to him. “No, Jeremy, you
were a huge reb.”
They dinked their glasses lighdy, the sound crisp in the soft light, like a testament to ther friendship. Yvonne took a small sip of her drink and used the moment to explain
he details of Bela’s car accident.
“Bela’s accident happened in Mesquite, and there’s something off about it. We
suspect it was orchestrated by Andrew’s arranged marriage partner. Later, Andrew brought Bella directly to his home, openly defying his family, as if he were preparing for a battle with them.”
Yvonne’s tone grew serious as she spoke. Jeremy listened quietly, his gaze deep, as if he were considering something. He knew Andrew well enough to understand that he was an ambitious and controlling man. In his life, business always came first,
even over his relationships. Even in an arranged marriage, Andrew would ensure he held absolute control never allowing himself to be threatened or manipulated
“Bella told me you visited her at the Yan residence a few times, standing up for her,” Yvonne said, her gaze softening with gratitude.
Jeremy nodded slightly, his eyes reflecting both gentleness and determination. “Yes, Bella’s a good person. I couldn’t stand by and watch her get hurt by those
complicated power struggles,”
Yvonne was touched by his words, her expression softening even more. She raised her glass again, this time with even more sincerity. “Jeremy, thank you.”
Jeremy didn’t refuse, and they clinked glasses again. Then, his expression turned more serious. “Yvonne, do I have a chance now?”
Yvonne paused, her heart skipping a beat. She hadn’t expected Jeremy to bring up such a topic at this moment. She leaned in slightly, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. ” How did you know?”
Her divorce was a well kept secret, even from those close to her, like Megan. So how had Jeremy found out?
Jeremy’s lips curved into a playful smile. “An enemy of my enemy has been encouraging me to undermine Benson.”
Hearing this, Yvonne began to understand, and she couldn’t help but laugh. “Steven, huh? I should have known–he’s always playing both sides.”
“Business is business,” Jeremy said calmly. “He’s trying to establish himself here, so naturally, he’s making as many connections as possible. And you do you need help?”
Yvonne tilted her head and looked at Jeremy with a teasing smile. “And how do you plan to help me?”
Jeremy smiled confidently, his gaze steady as he looked at her. “I heard you were forced into the divorce, which means you didn’t want it. How about I be your boyfriend?”
Yvonne couldn’t help but laugh at his response, shaking her head lightly, Steven was indeed a meticulous person, even managing to gather such details about her life.
Yvonne cleared her throat, her gaze drifting away from Jeremy’s face to the view outside the window, where she felt a mix of emotions rising within her. She knew Jeremy’s offer came from a place of kindness, but she also understood her own heart
she didn’t want to repeat past mistakes.
