Chapter Benson 245
Chapter 245 The Abyss of Regret
Benson looked hurt, but it didn’t soften Yvonne’s
heart.
“Benson, in this marriage, the only warmth you ever gave me was during the New Year. I really tried.
I thought I had finally tasted love. I believed we could be like we were before, talking about _everything.
Going to the places we once talked about but never visited. But that warmth was fake…
I used the same methods to get back at you, to scheme against you, even to push you away. With that, we’re even. So let’s get a divorce.”
“I won’t. I don’t want a divorce.” He released her wrist and grabbed her shoulders, “I’ve finally found you, how could I let you go?”
Yvonne’s gaze remained firm and calm. She took a deep breath, her eyes reflecting an unwavering determination.
“Benson, you can let me go,” she said, her words like
a sharp knife cutting deep into Benson’s heart.
Her tone was calm but carried an undeniable
sadness.
“When I lied to you, I felt a little guilty. But what made me resolute about the divorce was when I received the call that Olivia was returning on the
plane.”
Benson’s expression shifted, a trace of anger and dissatisfaction flickering across his face. His lips curled slightly in a sarcastic sneer.
“As my wife, you really don’t care about yourself.
Yvonne’s gaze grew even more determined.
“When I lied to you, you probably guessed it, didn’t you? You guessed that the person you were looking for was me?”
Benson’s face changed, but he didn’t deny it. He lowered his head in silence, as if recalling everything from the past.
His heart was filled with conflict and pain, unsure of how to respond.
Yvonne continued, “I knew you were waiting, waiting
for me to admit it.
I admit it, but why didn’t you come to me and apologize?
You knew the grievances I’ve had over the years, yet you did nothing…
Her voice trembled slightly, but she struggled to stay composed, tears of anger and sadness glimmering in her eyes.
“I wonder, do you really love me? Even the person I
used to be?”
Benson was stunned, his lips slightly parted, but he couldn’t find the words to speak.
Faced with Yvonne’s questions, he felt like his world was collapsing.
All the emotions and responsibilities weighed on him like heavy chains.
“Benson, when you couldn’t find me, you didn’t show me any special care in our marriage.”
Her voice carried a hint of resentment and helplessness.
“Now that you’ve found me, you still don’t want to
give me that care. Every time you went to see the doctor‘ with Olivia, my disappointment grew.”
Each of her words was like a sharp arrow piercing
Benson’s heart.
Her gaze was cold and resolute, as if she had
already made up her mind, no longer swayed by the
past.
Benson’s face turned pale, his heart racing as he felt an overwhelming sense of pressure.
His hands hung limply at his sides, his expression filled with deep guilt and helplessness.
He finally understood that all the missed opportunities and neglect in the past had deeply hurt her. And now, he couldn’t undo any of it.
Yvonne stood before him, so calm and resolute.
Her words were like invisible chains, binding him to the mistakes and disappointments of the past.
He knew that facing this Yvonne, he had no
argument, only to silently accept her accusations and farewell.
Yvonne’s figure gradually disappeared in the dim
light.
She handed Benson a box containing a safety
pendant, her tone cold yet firm, “Sign the divorce. papers.”
She turned and left the room, leaving Benson alone.
His heart was filled with indescribable confusion
and anger.
The night was deep, and the only sounds in the room were the ticking of the clock and the
occasional wind from afar.
His mind was flooded with Yvonne’s questions, replaying like a film, leaving him restless.
Benson sat on the edge of the bed, covering his face with his hands, his emotions surging like a tide.
Memories of their past together swirled in his mind. His indifference and neglect towards Yvonne now
seemed so selfish and unwise.
He once hoped she would take the initiative to speak to him, expecting her to admit her faults for.
everything he had done, but her attitude left him completely surprised.
The room was silent, except for Benson’s
occasional heavy breathing and the ticking of the clock.
He felt as if he were trapped in an endless whirlpool, unable to escape.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Yvonne’s tear- streaked face.
Her every question was like a sharp knife cutting into his heart.
Yvonne had long left the room, heading to her own, leaving Benson alone to ponder in the empty space.
His emotions were as chaotic as if they were being torn apart.
Once, he thought he was deeply searching for her, but the truth was, he was only self–righteously
waiting for her to turn back.
Yvonne’s departure made him realize that he had never truly understood her feelings, nor had he given her the response she deserved.
He sat on the bed, his fingers brushing over the pendant box, his mind filled with every warm
moment Yvonne had given him.
Those memories interwove in his mind, each scene so clear, as if it had just happened yesterday.
Her smile, her care, her deep affection for him, all felt so real, yet they had gradually faded under his
neglect.
All the warmth and care Yvonne had once given him in their marriage, he had taken for granted.
He had once expected her every effort to please him, every silent gaze at him, to be her natural duty
towards him.
But now, he finally understood that those were all
acts of deep love from her, and it was his own neglect and indifference that had caused her pain.
He recalled the question she had asked him at St.
George’s: “Benson, are you sure you want to use Olivia to keep me by your side?”
At the time, he couldn’t understand her struggles, thinking she was merely jealous and vengeful.
Now, it was clear how naive and shallow his understanding had been.
He had taken her love and hopes for granted, ignoring the pain and disappointment in her heart.
Benson’s heart was tortured on this heavy night.
He realized that his choices and decisions had actually pushed him into the abyss of losing Yvonne.
Not only had he failed to cherish her, but he had also driven her to despair.
His thoughts grew heavier, as if countless stones were weighing down on his heart, making it hard to breathe.
He finally understood that his love and affection for Yvonne had never truly reached her heart.
His obsession with Olivia, his neglect of Yvonne, had ultimately led to this outcome.
Now, facing Yvonne’s coldness and determination, he was left with nothing but endless regret and self- reproach.
Benson’s heart was filled with complex emotions. He deeply knew that all of this stemmed from his own mistakes and immaturity.
All his past fantasies and expectations had finally
been shattered by the harsh reality.
He had to face not only Yvonne’s departure but also the brokenness and scars within his own heart.
