Chapter 11
Fae Kingdom 👆🏻
Ares POV
I had always been told by numerous people that I was what would be termed as an introvert.
For as long as I can remember, I rarely interacted with anyone unless there was a necessity and even then, I would hardly utter beyond what was needed to be said.
According to my father, that was a trait that a king should never posses. To him, a king should be someone who was approachable for almost anything. That I should be someone that my people could turn to in times of need and look to as a symbol of hope.
"I don't see the point of doing this when Dad's not even here." I mumbled as I looked ahead at all my subjects that had gathered earlier in the morning to finally have the chance to greet the "Future King".
Yes, I had only been crowned as the crown prince and would only receive my title of king once I married this so called prince that hadn't yet made an appearance. I personally couldn't give a care whether he showed or not, since it wasn't like I was ever going to love him. He just served as a means to give me my heirs and solidify my kingdom.
"Your parents are away on Royal business and requested that I oversee you go through with this greeting" my guard said beside me, making me roll my eyes at him and turn to the next person that had bowed at my feet.
"Your Majesty, what an honor to finally be in your presence." He uttered, making me want to groan out loud, but knowing my damn puppy of a guard, he would most definitely run and rely every detail to my father who would then in turn, do something else to make my life more hell than it already is.
"Please, the honor is all mine. Rise" I uttered as I had rehearsed a million times before and watched as a huge smile spread across his face as he bowed his head once more.
"Your Majesty, if I may?" He asked while he bowed his head out of respect.
"Please do."
"You're truly as beautiful as they say, Your Majesty." He uttered and moved away, making room for the next subject who proceeded to bow before me, uttering the same praises, making me wonder just how much longer I could actually do this without going insane.
Several hours later and I was just about ready to scream. I could not even feel my own backside. My legs hurt and entire body felt absolutely numb and I could only send a prayer of gratitude once my guard, Renoi, informed me that I had seen the last of my subjects for the day.
"What time did they say they would be back?" I asked once we had reached my chambers and I began taking off my royal robes that seemed to weigh a ton on me and let them fall to the floor.
"At around noon tomorrow" Renoi replied as he bent down and picked up my garments, placing them on the chest that sat just in front of my bed.
I sat down on the edge of my bed and twisted myself towards the right, hearing my bones crack due to being forced to sit still for so many hours. I had never been one to just sit still and do nothing and for as long as I can remember, I had always been an active child. Whether it was running around the palace, tiring all the guards who were forced to catch me, or whether it was my obsessive habit of training amongst the soldiers that I had developed as a teenager, either way, sitting on my ass on a throne just was not me.
"I know that look, and before you go on about how all this sucks, today was just the first day. It'll get better once you get the hang of things. Your father didn't become the king he is in just a day." Renoi said as he picked up the last of my clothing and sighed as he leaned against the wall and turned to face me.
"Though, one thing I'm not sure about is, how your father is going to take your proposal to lead the troops" he added as he poured me a glass of water from the jug that had been placed on my table earlier, and handed it to me.
"It's not the first time a king was made the general of his own army and besides, what kind of king would I be if I sat here in the comfort and safety of my palace and watched my men all go out and die for me?" I asked as I looked him in the eyes.
"That might be true. But you're also your father's only son. I can see how and why he would never let you do that. If you died, the entire kingdom would erupt into the chaos it once was before your birth." He said, making me raise my eyebrow at him.
"You might not see it, or want to see it, but you are very valuable to this kingdom. Prophecies before have foretold of your birth and how you would be what saves this kingdom from from the destruction to come and by you going out into the battle and dying just what the hell do you think would happen to us all then?" He asked making me sigh as I leaned back against the bed and looked at the ceiling.
"I know you're more than capable of leading your own army to victory but you cannot blame me for wanting to keep you safe and again, that does not make you weak" he added, causing the corners of my mouth to curve into a smile.
"How is it that you always know what I'm thinking?" I asked as I turned my head and looked in his direction.
"Well, when I've been following your whiny bratty ass since your teenage years, I was bound to pick up a few things." He replied, making me side smile as I looked at him who had become the closest person I could call my friend over the years.
"You do realize you're the same age as me right?" I asked and raised my eyebrow at him with a smirk.
"Yes, though I am not a whiny bratty ass" he replied making me narrow my eyes at him when he chuckled.
"Alright, you may leave now. I'm going to head to bed anyway. I have early plans with the soldiers tomorrow morning." I said as I took a long sip of the water and placed the goblet on the table beside my bed.
"I should probably stay. You know your father doesn't want you left alone at all." He replied, making me snort.
"Renoi, I'll be fine. Like you said, I'm more than capable of taking care of myself. And besides, I saw you eyeing that cup bearer out and I can only imagine the things you plan doing to him. Take the night off and go and pursue your man." I said, making the tips of his ears immediately turn a bright shade of red as he avoided my gaze and looked at the door.
"Yes, Your Majesty" was his only reply, though I wasn't expecting him to say much more.
"If you do want to do something useful other than fucking, change this damn water. It tastes like something died in it." I said as I grimaced and set the goblet down.
"It was filled just before we left for the throne room" he answered and raised his eyebrow.
"Whatever, I need some sleep after today. I'll see you in the morning, that is if you can still walk by then" I said as I smirked and watched him nod as he tried to hide his face from me yet again.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
I watched him leave and shut the door behind him in the process. I let out a sigh as I walked towards the window to open it slightly when I suddenly felt a wave of heat rush over me which was quite understandable, for during the months of summer, our nights were just as hot as our days. I let out a sigh of relief when the cool breeze outside hit against my skin when suddenly I seemed to loose my balance as a moment of dizziness overtook me causing me to hold onto the window pane for support.
I shook my head when my vision began to blur out for a moment and I tried to blink in order to clear it up a bit when I heard the door behind me open.
"Renoi, I feel odd for some reason, my head's spin-"
My words were cut off when I felt a strong hand grip me over my mouth. I widened my eyes and pushed myself back as hard as I could, which proved to be quite difficult with the sudden wave of dizziness I felt. I shoved myself back and reached behind me, gripping his arm and bringing it over my head causing his body to topple over mine and hit the ground. I heard him grunt out of pain when his body hit the floor. I further widened my eyes when I saw just who had attacked me..
A fucking Orc!
I tried to maintain my balance as I watched him growl as he got up and stood in front of me, black orbs burning holes into my own as his nose flared out of anger. My head snapped in the direction of the two other orcs entering my room as I stood there, breathing raggedly.
"What the fuck is he doing still standing! That was supposed to knock him out!" The tallest of them, whom I was assuming was their leader, said as he looked at me.
"Beats me! You laced it!" The other yelled back at him.
"Fuck taking him unharmed. Bash him on the head" their leader yelled.
I ducked out of the way as one of them lunged at me and grabbed his arm, trying to twist it which looked almost impossible since he was almost double my size resulting in him pulling me against him and bashing his head against my own.
My vision began spinning around as pain assaulted my head. I gripped the sides of my head and tried to focus on the moving orcs in front of me, cursing my lack of knowing how to use my supposed godly magic.
Yeah right, I was so far from godly!
"Enough! Just gag him and let's get the hell out of here. Where's the fucking Hybrid!" Their leader yelled at the one towards his side.
"He's taken out the left side of the wing. All the guards are unconscious so we shouldn't have a problem escaping with him." He replied and looked at me and just as I was about to lung foward, I felt a strong grip on my arms, pulling them and twisting them behind my back.
"Fuck knows why I got stuck with this fucking job!" Their leader grumbled as he took out a strap of leather from his pocket.
"We all know if the roles had been reversed and the Hyrid capture the prince, you would have been dead by now" the other replied earning himself a punch in the face from the leader.
"Now be a good little bitch and shut that mouth of yours or I will really rip your tongue out." He uttered as he looked at me.
In that moment, I wished I could have done more than just allow him to tie the strap against my mouth and another around my wrists, but the truth was, it really felt as though my body was not my own. If anything, it felt like I was stuck somewhere inside my body, looking at what was happening to me.
With each second that passed, I could feel my body growing more numb to the point where, I could not even feel the tips of my fingers. I slumped down, expecting to hit the ground when I felt the orc behind me hoist me up against his body and walk out with me.
"I really hope that damn Hybrid didn't screw this up." Their leader said as he walked down the eerie quiet hallway, with the orc carrying me close behind.
With each step he took, I could feel my eyelids slowly becoming heavier and heavier, to the point where, I couldn't fight it anymore and succumbed to the darkness, one thought playing on my mind..
Just who was this Hybrid?
