Beasts of Pennsylvania - | The Nature of the Beast |

Chapter 4

“Do the two of you have any goddamn idea what you’ve done?!” Victor shouted at the two. Davina and Aaron were sat in two chair’s in Dean’s office as they listened to Victor reprimand them. Victor stood a few feet away, pacing back and forth. Dean, Jackson, and Charlie were scattered along the room. Both Jackson and Charlie’s stab wounds had healed once they pulled the knives out. Jackson had cleaned up nicely. Blood was no longer along his forehead, but it had stained the collar of his dress shirt. He glared at the two. He didn’t like looking unpresentable. As for Charlie, he had dried blood on his chin that had trickled down to his jean jacket, staining it and his skin. He was growing more and more intrigued of the girl before him. He wondered how she had managed to slow down both him and Jackson. As did Aaron. He stared at the girl who he had been told to call his sister. Up until a few months ago, he didn’t even know of her existence. And since, he’s never bothered to get to know her. He questioned whether it was a smart move. He felt in the beginning he needed to know her, to trust her enough to fight along side her, though he never wanted to. But, now.. he didn’t question it. Davina was trouble. She had proven so to him today more than once. And even after thinking this, he wondered how she was able to convince him so easily to come along today and risk getting in trouble with not only his family and the organization, but the beasts and the beast King as well.

“I expected this kind of behavior from Davina, but you Aaron?! You’ve been apart of this organization since your birth. The rules are engraved into your mind! You know they aren’t a threat towards us! They proven that to you! Why the fuck did you come along?!” Victor shouted, stopping his pacing. Aaron lowered his head, looking down into his lap. He’s never been at a loss for words and has always answered when he’s been told. But he couldn’t now. He couldn’t answer him.

“Aaron, why did you come along?” Victor asked more sternly. Aaron finally looked up at him, shaking his head.

“I do not know.” Aaron said in a quiet voice, uncharacteristically for him. Victor noticed this and took a step back. He then turned to Davina who had this look on her face. A look like she didn’t have a care in the world about what she was doing.

“Davina. Look at me.” Victor commanded. Davina eyed him, waiting for what he had to say.

“Why do you continue to believe they’re hiding Colton?” Victor asked in a low voice. The mere mention was her missing brother’s name set her off. Davina stood up from her chair, approaching Victor, standing dangerously close.

“Why do you continue to believe they have nothing to do with his disappearance?” Davina questioned angerly.

“Because, Davina we made an alliance!” Victor said, maintaining his raised voice.

“No, some dude several years back made an alliance with these freaks! Alright?! I never did!” Davina responded.

“You are apart of this organization, Davina, you-” Victor said, but was cut off by Davina, who was growing more and more angry by the second.

“I am not apart of the organization! Hell, I’m not even a part of this family!” Davina shouted back in frustration. Charlie groaned from across the room. If there was one thing in this world he truly hated, it was the drama in a family affair. Jackson felt uncomfortable. This was something he felt he didn’t need to be apart of. As for Dean, he was outraged. Not only that they did this, but that they were having this argument right now. So human of them, Dean thought. Charlie snickered from his spot, thinking the same thing. Jackson make no indication he knew of what Dean thought, but he too secretly thought it. Though, he’d never show it.

“You’re right! You’re apart of neither, but an arrangement was made.” Victor said. He didn’t truly believe what he said. He recognized Davina as part of the family. But, if she didn’t, then he supposes she isn’t.

“An arrangement I had no part of!” Davina responded. Victor stepped closer, getting in her face.

“I saved you from an unfortunate past that you would still be stuck in if it weren’t for me finding you.” Victor said lowly. Aaron leaned forward in his seat. This... he hadn’t known. He had grown intrigued.

“You saved me from nothing. I made it out on my own. I survived the fucking worst. The only thing you did was make sure I wouldn’t have a place to return to if I couldn’t run any longer.” Davina said. Victor bit his tongue, keeping himself from saying what he truly wanted to say to his niece.

“Would you have rather I didn’t burn down that building for you? Huh, Davina?!” Victor shouted in her face.

“If you hadn’t, I wouldn’t be such an inconvenience to you right now, Uncle.” Davina said. Victor scoffed, thinking about all that he had done for her. Even if he hadn’t exactly saved her, he did find her on the streets after searching for her for so long. He did bring her to the Archer home, made her feel welcomed, and gave her everything she didn’t have throughout her childhood. He gave her a family and ensured she wasn’t alone anymore.

“If your mother could see you now.” Victor growled. Almost immediately, Davina slapped Victor across his face, making him stumble back and his glasses fall off his face to the floor. Davina hadn’t realized what she had done until she heard the glasses clanking against the floor. Suddenly, the three beasts in the room all approached her. Charlie grabbed ahold of her chin, tilting it up roughly towards him.

“I know I did not just see that.” Charlie said in disbelief. Davina tried backing away, unsure of what they were doing. Charlie’s gripped tighter to get a better look, making Davina wince. Jackson was quick to shove Charlie out of the way and do the same but be much more gentle about it. Jackson examined her eyes. He could see the confusion in them, but that wasn’t what he was looking for. He wanted to see what he just saw a minute ago. Charlie struggled to see over Jackson’s shoulder. He stood on his toes but it wasn’t enough. He cursed Jackson and his height of 6′1 that kept him from seeing anything. He noticed a look of fear in her eyes for a moment that was quickly washed away with a look of anger.

“Are we all certain about what we saw?” Jackson asked, turning his head back to the two beasts behind him.

“No! It’s impossible!” Charlie exclaimed.

“I’m fairly certain.” Dean said.

“You didn’t see anything!” Davina exclaimed. She placed her hands onto the wrists of Jackson, trying to push him away. His grip became firmer, but made sure not to be careless with her like Charlie did.

“We’ll need to run some tests to be certain.” Dean stated.

“Run tests? What tests?” Aaron asked, becoming concerned.

“No! No tests! I’m fine!” Davina assured. Jackson frowned down at her. Why is she so against tests, Jackson thought. Dean seemed to think the same thing. He gave Jackson a look, making Jackson release her and scoot out of the way. Dean placed one hand on the jaw of Davina, making her look up into his intense blue eyes. She hated it. She didn’t fear him, but looking into his eyes sent a cold shiver down her spine. His eyes were certainly intimidating.

“Why are you adamant about us not testing on you?” Dean asked. Davina struggled to find an answer, she grew nervous, an emotion she didn’t display often.

“I’m not being adamant. I know that there is nothing wrong with me. Nothing you need to search for. Besides, who knows how you freaks treat your experiments!” Davina scowled.

“What the hell makes you think we experiment on humans?!” Charlie asked, feeling slightly offended. Davina didn’t think they did. In fact, she knew they didn’t. She found most beasts to be more humane that most humans in the world. Though, she’d never tell. Dean tried searching through her mind, knowing whatever answer he’d get wouldn’t come verbally. Perhaps torture, Charlie thought. Both Dean and Jackson turned back at him, glaring at him. Tt was typical of Charlie to suggest a torturous method to get someone to speak up. Though they were beasts and it was in their nature to be violent, both Dean and Jackson thought it to be unnecessary in most cases, including this one. Dean turned back to Davina, looking deep into her eyes. He wondered if using his ability of persuasion would work, but after a few awkward moment of staring into each other eyes, it proved to not work on her either. What is it about this girl that keeps me from using my abilities on her, Dean thought.

“Get Lucian. Bring him here.” Dean said. Jackson turned back to Charlie, raising a brow at him. Charlie whined realizing what Jackson had wanted.

“Why can’t you?!” Charlie complained.

“Because, I’m older. You’re closer to a servant than I am.” Jackson teased, something he didn’t do too often. Charlie scoffed and whined as he sped out of the room to do as he was told. Dean lowered Davina down into her chair. He knelt down in front of her, still looking into her eyes.

“Don’t look at me like that.” Davina demanded.

“Like what?” Dean asked.

“I don’t know what! But, it’s making me uncomfortable.” Davina said as she crossed her arms and put her feet up into her seat. Dean fought back a smirk. He straightened back up once Charlie arrived with Lucian beside him. Lucian looked ready to be put to work.

“We need tests ran. We’ll start off easy with a DNA test. I know that look in her eye was strange, but if none of our abilities work on her, I’d like to explore the easiest option first.” Dean said.

“Which is what exactly?” Aaron asked curiously.

“Davina having the blood of a witch.” Dean answered. Charlie groaned from across the room as Jackson’s lip curled up. It was unlike Jackson to have any sort of facial reaction of his opinion towards someone or something. In this moment, he simply couldn’t help himself.

“Man, I fucking hate the witches!” Charlie said, kicking his foot around.

“Wait, wait, a witch?” Victor questioned. Dean turned back.

“Yes, a witch.” Dean responded simply.

“Those exist?” Victor asked in disbelief. Dean furrowed his brows.

“You mean to tell you didn’t know of the existence of witches?” Dean asked. Victor shook his head.

“How vast is the organization’s knowledge on supernatural’s?” Dean asked. Victor didn’t respond, he remained silent. Aaron looked completely lost. Dean sighed.

“What all exists?” Aaron asked.

“Us, witches, Banshee’s, Demons, Angels, Ghouls, probably a chimera or two out there.” Lucian answered.

“No vampires?” Davina asked jokingly.

“Technically, we are the vampires.” Jackson replied, making Davina raise a brow at him. She hadn’t viewed them as that at all.

“But, we don’t like to be called that. Never ever call us that.” Charlie stated with a serious look in his eyes.

“How come?” Davina inquired. Charlie groaned.

“Because, we don’t glow nor burn in the sun. We don’t have special individual abilities. And we don’t come in handsome brotherly pairs!” Charlie yelled. Davina eyed him, wondering if people made such assumptions before. She didn’t question why each we so specific.

“How could it be possible that she’s a witch, though? I don’t understand. Don’t you have to have the blood of a witch?” Aaron asked, turning to everyone in the room. Victor grew visibly worried, and it didn’t go unnoticed by anyone.

“Have you seriously not told anybody?” Davina asked, making Victor scratch the back of his neck. She sighed and turned to Aaron.

“We have different mother’s, that’s what makes it possible.” Davina explained. Aaron frowned, but didn’t say anything. He knew he’d ask about it later. Now wasn’t the time.

“Will that be all, my King?” Lucian asked.

“For now. We’ll have to keep her here for a few days while we run the tests, hopefully it’ll be short than that.” Dean said, turning to Victor. Victor looked unsure. He looked down at his niece, feeling regretful for the things he said and for yelling at her. He and her had a special relationship. Davina grew up with her mother someplace else and didn’t have a father considering Vincent didn’t want to stay with her mother. Davina hard a rough past for several different reasons, and when Victor found her the two bonded. Victor thought of her as his own daughter, and he knew she thought the same. Even when the two were at each other’s throats and said hateful things. He needs to apologize. But knew that now’s not the time and that tests must be at this time. Victor turned back to Dean.

“Alright. Keep me updated. I’m sorry for the damage they’ve caused.” Victor said, reminding Dean of all that occurred before this. Dean shook his head.

“Don’t worry about it.” Dean said as he knocked on the door to his office. The guard on the outside opened it waiting for the Archer family, with the exception of Davina, to leave. The two silently exited the room and were escorted out of the compound.

“You however, do have to worry about it.” Dean said, turning back to Davina.

“You’ve caused a lot of stress for me these past few days, darling.” Dean said. He rested his hands on the arm’s of the chair Davina sat in and leaned forward, bringing his face close to hers. He stared intensely at her, making her feel uncomfortable.

“All can be forgiven, however, considering I’ll be seeing a lot of you over these next few days.” Dean said as he backed away.

“In your time here you will not be treated like a prisoner, you will be treated like a guest. You will have your own room within the mansion and you will be provided with the right necessities to be living here over the course of the next few days. If you need anything, the maid and her helper will gladly get it for you, and-” Dean said, but was cut off by Davina wincing.

“What?” Dean asked.

“About that.. Aaron and I may or may not have posed as the maids helpers today as a way to sneak in here.” Davina said. Dean paused before huffing in annoyance, looking at her in disbelief. Charlie laughed from across the room.

“Perhaps a punishment is in order, Dean.” Charlie joked, knowing Dean didn’t believe in torturing humans. Davina immediately shook her head.

“No, no, I’ve read enough vampire fanfics in the past! You said I was a guest! I-I don’t want to find out about your special rooms!” Davina exclaimed, stammering over her words. Dean frowned.

“Special rooms?” Jackson questioned, curiosity itching his mind at what Davina meant.

“You are a guest here, Davina. What are you so concerned about?” Dean asked.

“And what about vampire fanfics?” Charlie inquired. Davina looked between the three, unsure of what to say. They obviously didn’t know of what she was talking about.

“Oh, come on! Surely you’ve read some vampire fanfics if you know about how vampires are perceived in shitty TV shows.” Davina exclaimed, specifically speaking to Charlie. Nobody budged so they obviously didn’t. Davina didn’t wat to say it but figured she had to now.

“Some vampires have... sex cells where they kidnap girls and and have weird vampire orgies.” Davina quickly said, indicating she was uncomfortable. Charlie groaned. Dean stood in disbelief. Jackson was curious and offended simultaneously.

“You read those kind of fanfics?! What’s the matter with you, girl?!” Charlie shouted. Davina became defensive.

“I do not! It’s recommended to me by the apps!” Davina defended herself. Charlie’s eyes widened.

“It was recommended to you?! What kind of stuff are you reading for it to recommend that!? Aren’t you like fifteen?!” Charlie questioned.

“No! I am not fifteen! I’m twenty-three!” Davina exclaimed. Dean rolled his eyes. He started to see that the two were alike in some ways. One Charlie was enough for him, and one Davina was enough for him. He didn’t need a duplicate of either. He hoped that while she stayed here the next few days they’d stay far away from each other and not rub off on one another. He doesn’t think the world can handle that.

“Alright, enough! Davina, I can assure you, you have nothing to be concerned about as far as... that." Dean answered. Davina sighed of relief. Lucian abruptly burst through the office, making all turn. Jackson and Charlie frowned at the beast, wondering if he was allowed to do that with the King when they both found it down right disrespectful. Lucian realized what he did when he saw the co-leader’s faces. He panicked.

“Sorry, my Lord!” Lucian quickly said.

“It’s not an issue, Lucian. Do you have the tools prepared?” Dean asked.

“Yes, everything is all ready. We just need Ms. Archer.” Lucian said, looking over at the girl who sat in the seat. She sighed before sitting up and walking past the group of leaders. Lucian eyed the girl as she past him. Dean tolled his eyes before exiting the room, both Jackson and Charlie following after. They fell in step with Dean, walking side by side with him.

“Have you thought about what you’ll do if she isn’t a witch?” Jackson inquired Dean.

“What do you care?” Charlie asked a little harshly.

“I don’t. But I’d like to entertain the idea.” Jackson simply answered.

“If she isn’t a witch, I’ll run more tests on her. See why beasts abilities don’t work on her.” Dean said.

“Only your abilities didn’t, Dean. Nobody else had tried.” Charlie reminded him.

“If mine didn’t, which is far greater than either of yours, yours won’t either.” Dean answered.

“Correct me if I’m wrong, but no other supernatural creature can resist a beasts abilities, with the exception of an Angel or Demon of course. And we most certainly know she doesn’t posses the personality traits of a Demon.” Jackson said. Charlie laughed.

“She doesn’t posses the personality traits of an Angel either. You heard her earlier when she was arguing with her Uncle. No Angel talks to coldly to someone they’re familiar with. Hell, or anyone!” Charlie said, remembering earlier back in the office. The talk the two were having still made him feel uncomfortable. He’s never been great with drama in family affairs. His own family would argue back and forth. He had enough one day and murdered them all. Though it was his fondest memory with them, the whole back and forth and getting riled up annoyed him. Watching someone else did it make him wonder if he looked that stupid whenever he and his family were going back and forth.

“Will you kill her, Dean?” Jackson inquired, feeling curious. Dean frowned at him.

“When have I ever killed an innocent human?” Dean asked. Both quirked a brow at him, reminding him of his days before King. How he used to rip into the necks of humans, be damned the consequences of his actions. He did it for the immense pleasure he’d feel once his fangs sank into human skin. Dean shudders at the thought. He can’t imagine doing any of that now. Dean shook his head.

“I have no reason to kill her.” Dean answered.

“Don’t cross that out just yet, Dean. You don’t know what you’ll find. This girl could very well be a threat to our existence.” Charlie suggested. I scoffed shaking my head. Jackson chuckled. He was getting the amusement he was hoping for.

“I highly doubt this random, human girl could ever be a threat to our existence.” Dean responded before entering the lab Davina resided in. She sat atop a metal bed with her arms crossed. She eyed Lucian, who took her blood.

“Don’t go tasting that. Send it straight away to testing.” Davina demanded. Lucian laughed heartily, making Davina frown.

“Oh, believe me. If you are a witch, you won’t have to worry about anybody here drinking your blood.” Lucian said before exiting the room with the vial of blood. Davina sighed before jumping off of the metal bed. She then looked over at the three, quirking a brow at them.

“Well.. now what?” Davina asked.

“I suppose now we wait.” Jackson replied, leaning against the door frame. Davina sighed, knowing these past few days weren’t going to be enjoyable.
