Chapter EIGHTEEN
North's P.O.V
I woke to loud screaming and yelling, like a lot of yelling, I opened my eyes to see the devil room with the witch who tried to melt my brain. I looked up and saw that Conny was still there and was whipping my cheeks clean of blood. Once my vision cleared I saw Miah being held back by Connor and another wolf while she was trying to jump on Nymeria.
I tried to move but was shoved down by a hand, I looked to my right and saw a guy who looked to be in his early fifties with a grey beard and everything. He smiled warmly, like the vibe you’d get from a loving grandfather. “Stay down son” his voice was husky and dry but he seemed kind.
Then I felt a kiss on my forehead and sparks shoot through my body, I looked up to see Conny with a smile on her face, “You’re ok” she whispered more to herself than me, I smiled at her affection. I nodded and said, “I’m ok” she nodded closing her eyes and leaning her forehead against mine.
Then she pulled away and said, “North, this is Klaus, the pack doctor” I turned to the older man who nodded and smiled, I nodded back, then the older man turned to the fighting adults and yelled, “HEY!!” they all looked over and then he said, “He’s awake, now stop being children” he huffed out.
Then he turned to Connor and said in a harsh tone, “How could you, letting your own pack member get hurt like this, shame on you Connor!“, to say Connor was shocked is an understatement. He then turned to me and said in a much kinder tone, “You’ll be ok, just take it easy ok??” I nodded, still confused by the whole situation.
He nodded sternly, then stood and walked to the door, glaring at Connor and Nymeria on his way out. I don’t know why, but I feel like Klaus and I will be good friends in the future. I looked back up at Conny who was glaring intensely at Nymeria and I thought I was the protective one. I stared at the witch, not with anger but confusion.
I didn’t understand her, she wasn’t asked to give me the necklace yet she did anyway, but she hurt me only minutes later, I wanted to say it was an accident but some part of me said that she did it on purpose and that the necklace was her way of saying sorry beforehand. She confused me, more than I was about my new life as a Lycan.
I studied her movements as Miah yelled at her, she looked very calm, collected, and made no move to defend herself against her screams or Connor’s demands. She looked at peace with what she did, I think that confused me the most. Even if what she did was a complete accident, she should still move to prove that.
Or maybe she didn’t want to prove anything, she did what she did and she doesn’t have any remorse or guilt. She looked that way from the begging, only doing what she was told, nothing more. Her purple eyes then landed on me, her lips curved into a smile, not a devious one but a gentle one. Like she knew I understood her, but I didn’t, at least not yet.
I realized at that moment that I haven’t really come to terms with this new world I was dragged into, I hadn’t really asked any questions and I haven’t given myself a chance to react to this madness. Nymeria’s eyes then drifted back to Miah’s slowly, and she just stood there emotionless like before.
And oddly enough, I didn’t expect any more or less from her, as I said before, she seemed like the type of person how showed no remorse. In this whole time, Conny never let go of my shoulders, her grip never loosened. Not that I wanted it too, but it was nice to know that she cared enough about me.
No, I didn’t know what we were, and I had no idea what we would become, but I hoped that things worked out between us, I cared about her, no, not love, I haven’t known her long enough to say that, but I for sure cared a lot about her. I heard my name being called a few times, but I guess in all the time I was thinking, I didn’t care to listen.
I blinked a few times to help bring myself back to reality, then I looked to see Miah standing right in front of me, “You ok?” she asked softly as a mother would to her child. I nodded and said, “Yeah, I’m ok” she smiled and nodded. “Good, I’m sorry this happened” I shook my head and said, “it’s ok, you didn’t know” she smiled warmly, then looked at Conny.
“Look after him-” then she turned her attention back to me, “I’ve gotta go to a meeting about Nymeria, ok?” I nodded and she then stood and walked to the door. Then Conny said, “Let’s go upstairs, it’s better than the floor” I lightly chuckled and nodded to her. I stood up with her holding my arm carefully so I wouldn’t fall.
Once I was fully balanced we walked out of the room with her standing very close to me, I think it was just in case I fell. I smiled at her concern as I said before, I thought I was the protective one. Once we were in my room I sat down on the bed with her sitting right next to me, I sighed and said, “So, fun day right?” she lightly giggled and nudged my arm playfully.
Then I caught her eye, I never really noticed how green her eyes are, they remind me of how the tree leaves looked when the sun hit them just right. She seemed to stare at me with the same thought. I found myself leaning in, her following my moment, I felt our lips brush, then connect. I reached my hand up and gently placed it on her cheek, she held my arm tightly, afraid to let go.
Our lips molded perfectly,
I couldn’t think of a better moment to have
with this beautiful girl.
