Be My Man, Mr. Jenkins By Flora Julius

Chapter 16

Chapter 16

With the intention of pretending to be weak, Adriane watched Rebel transfer the money to her. She accepted the money without hesitation or any

excessive politeness.

Rebel had just received five million from Albert, but it was not long before he transferred it to someone else. It made her feel bad.

After hearing this, Juliette dragged Rebel to her room and asked angrily, “Mom, how can you give her so much money?” Last time she wanted a bag worth more than one hundred thousand, but you didn’t buy it for her!

She had been in poor health since she was a child. As soon as she finished these words, she felt short of breath and dizzy. She covered her chest and sat

on the bed.

Rebel held her arm anxiously and asked, “Juliette, how are you doing?”

“I’m fine,” she took a deep breath and said angrily, “But you have to get the money back!”

Rebel patted her chest and comforted her: “This is my pre–investment, and I’m sure I can make it back in the future. Think about it: Adriane is going to live with Jenkins family. If her clothing is much worse than others, people in the upper class will think that we have mistreated her. Let’s equip her sufficiently, and let her gain a firm foothold in Jenkins family. Then, it’s time for us to get the benefits.”

Juliette did not say a word, but her expression slightly changed.

Rebel continued, “Think about it. I have raised her for eight years. It was me who buried her mother. This debt of gratitude is enough for her to pay back to death. But why did I still give her money? Only when she is prosperous in Jenkins family can we have the source of ongoing wealth. Think about the piano you got today. What Albert gave us was just the tip of the iceberg compared to the great amount of money he owned, but it was already enough to feed us for such a long time. So you really can’t fall out with your sister just because of this five million.”

“All right,” Juliette lowered her head as if she had compromised. She was still worried, so she emphasized, “Then I won’t make a fuss about it this time. But I can’t accept if you give her any more money in the future.”

“Don’t worry.” Rebel winked at her. The two of them were thinking about how to get more benefits from Adriane. But they did not know that as long as the money was in Adriane’s pocket, she would never take it out.

Her luggage was packed with the help of the servants from the Stewart family. She only brought some common items and a suitcase with her.

The next day, before leaving, Adriane took out a small box from the drawer and put it away in her pocket. With her long eyelashes covering her dark pupils, she called out emotionally, “Mom.”

This was the only thing her biological mother left her.

When she came downstairs, Edward had already gone to work. There were only Rebel and Juliette waiting downstairs.

The two of them walked up to her. Rebel said, “Adriane, when I adopted you, you were only this tall. Now you are an adult and engaged to someone. How time flies!”

As she spoke, she squeezed out a few drops of tears, looking emotional,

In her previous life, Adriane always thought that she was a nice person. No matter how unreasonable her request was, she would try her best to fulfill it.

In this life, her performance was unable to move her anymore. Because all her gratitude had been used up in her previous life.

“Mom, I will come back to see you often.” Adriane lowered her head slightly to avoid exposing the coldness in her eyes to her.

“Good girl” Rebel hugged her and said, “I will call you when I miss you.”

Adriane sneered in her heart. Miss me? You had better say that you just needed me to do something for you.

Juliette’s thin eyebrows were curved, and her eyes were always full of sadness. She looked like a delicate flower. She tugged at Adriane’s sleeve and called her name: “Adriane, my coming–of–age ceremony will be held at the end of this month. You will come back to attend it, won’t you? Remember to bring me a gift!”

Chapter 16

Hearing the “coming of age ceremony“, Adriane smiled. She replied, “Of course.”

She was the adopted daughter of the Stewart family, so obviously there was no coming–of–age ceremony for her. In her previous life, when she reached adulthood, she had already been caught running away from the arranged marriage.

Mr. and Mrs. Stewart did not allow her to step out of the room because they felt ashamed. Juliette, though young, was very vicious. She led her cousin to her room and said that she meant to teach her a lesson, but in fact, she wanted to do something filthy to her.

If it were not for the fact that Adriane had exercised a lot since she was a child and Zack did not have any precaution, he might have succeeded.

After this incident was exposed, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart not only did not give a reasonable explanation to Adriane but also joined hands with Zack’s parents to accuse her of seducing Zack.

Juliette’s coming–of–age ceremony invited countless guests. Under the watchful eyes of the public, Adriane was cursed thoroughly in front of all the people who came and her reputation was ruined.

Her heart ached when she thought of what happened in the past.

Would you make the same choice again, my dear sister? This time, I would not let you do whatever you want.

Looking at Adriane’s smiling face, Juliette felt a little scared. She released her hand that was pulling on Adriane’s sleeves.

After saying goodbye to the two of them, Adriane got into Zack’s car. At the same time, Yael routinely reported to Arthur, “Arthur, Adriane will be back today.”

He said a lot just now, but Arthur, sitting in the wheelchair, did not respond at all. However, at that moment, he raised his eyelids slightly. “Really?”

Yael did not know whether he was happy or not, so he did not continue the topic but talked about the rehabilitation arrangement tomorrow instead.

A few minutes later, Arthur interrupted him, “When will she arrive?”

Yael thought he was asking when the doctor would arrive, so he replied respectfully, “Ten o’clock in the morning.”

Arthur cast a cold glance at Yael, which made his heart skip a beat. His strong desire to survive made him think fast, “Adriane should arrive at 2 p.m.”

“Well, you can leave now.” Arthur closed his tired eyes, but he was not sleepy at all.

Adriane’s bright eyes, which were as bright as diamonds, appeared in his mind. Her eyes were misty and she looked delicate and pitiful. Although she did not have much contact with him when she was in the villa, she always had some strange topics to talk about when she pushed him for a walk.

It seemed that he could feel much more relieved when he was with her. As soon as she left, the villa seemed empty and desolate, making the people

around uncomfortable somehow.

When Arthur opened his eyes again, Yael was no longer in the room. He controlled the wheelchair and wheeled himself out. He thought expressionlessly that since he could not accompany her back to the Stewarts‘ house, she seemed to be very sad. So he would make it up to her.

When it was almost two o’clock, he ordered Yael to push him downstairs. It has been rainy in Berkton City recently. It was sunny in the morning but cloudy in the afternoon. Sogn, cold wind blew and heavy raindrops fell.

Holding a big black umbrella, Yael stood behind Arthur, trying to keep the rain from falling on him, but half of his body was wet.

“Arthur, it’s raining heavily. Should we go back?”

Arthur looked through the rain and said in low voice, “No hurry.”
