Be My Man, Mr. Jenkins By Flora Julius

Chapter 15

Chapter 15

The greedy Stewart couple wanted to hand Adriane to Albert at once, but they could not show their eagerness to do so. After exchanging looks, the couple had a plan in mind.

First, Rebel pretended as if she really cared about Adriane and loved her very much. She had tears rolling in her eyes as she said, “I can’t part with my dear Adria. She is my darling daughter. I’ll miss her if she stays in your manor, and I’ll never be able to see her for days.”

Then Edward hesitated and said, “Adria is still young and ignorant. I’m afraid that she is not mature enough to take care of Mr. Arthur. What if she makes a mistake or makes Mr. Arthur mad?”

Albert, of course, came prepared. He asked his son, Hendrix, to take out a document and hand it over to Edward.

Without hesitation, Edward took over the document and flipped through the papers with his wife. They gasped and had the same thought in mind, “Isn’t this the project that Stewart Group has been trying to get but failed? I can’t believe Sir Albert got it for us!”

If it were not because they still had their composure, they would have packed Adriane’s luggage and sent her off to Jenkins‘ manor right away.

Unfortunately, their greed was like a bottomless pit. After putting down the contract, Edward put on the same hesitated look on his face and continued, “We have taken care of Adriane for many years and spent countless efforts…”

Albert interrupted Edward calmly, “I give you an additional one million dollars as compensation.”

One million dollars was not much, but it was more than enough for the Stewarts. Adriane would be enrolling in the university within two months. One million dollars to have their foster daughter for two months was a great deal to the Stewarts!

The Stewarts‘ relatives wanted to get some benefits from Albert too. They began to negotiate with Albert. Albert, who was not stupid, agreed to the reasonable requests and lost plenty of fortune pleasing those people.

Hendrix, who stood behind him, was unhappy and tried several times to speak, but Albert stopped him.

Noticing Albert’s determination to get Adriane to stay in Jenkins‘ manor, even Juliette and

Finally, Juliette demanded a costly piano, while Zack got a new car,

ck began to demand things they wanted.

Everyone in the living room was happy, except for Adriane, who sat beside Albert. She was listless and pale, unable to take in the fact that Albert had spent a fortune to get her to stay in Jenkins manor.

After Albert promised Adriane could come back home whenever she wanted, Edward finally stopped demanding and said excitedly, “Sure! Please take good care of our Adria.”

Rebel got the jewelry she dreamt of, and the smile on her face was brighter than ever. Without any hesitation, she said, “Adria is obedient and a good girl. She will take good care of Mr. Arthur.”

Adriane was disappointed with her foster family. They had easily “sold” her off to Albert after getting the things they wanted.

It was a short conversation, At noon, Albert turned down the Stewarts‘ invitation to have lunch with them politely and went back to Jenkins‘ manor with

Hendrix.

As for Adriane, she would be staying at the Stewarts‘ mansion that night. Zack, her cousin, would drive her to Jenkins manor the next day after packing her luggage.

As soon as their car was far away from the Stewarts‘ manor, Hendrix spoke out his thoughts, “Father, you don’t have to give them so many things in return to get their daughter to stay in our manor. They would have to send their daughter to us even if you don’t give them anything in return. Why did you let them take advantage of us?”

Albert put on a cold look and looked at Hendrix sternly. Hendrix did not dare to look Albert in the eye because Albert looked terrifying, just like Arthur

when he was serious.

“Do you know why I was never going to make you the heir of Jenkins” family in the first place, Hendrix 7”

The eldest son, who was nearly fifty, froze. He hung his head embarrassedly.

Albert continued, “It was not because you’re old, but because you’re always looking at what’s in front of you. Do I need the permission of Adriane’s foster parents to get her to stay in our maner? No! I want to buy Adriane’s loyalty with that money.”

Albert saw with his own eyes that the Stewarts were not cherishing Adriane sincerely. None of them cared about Adriane’s feelings. All they cared about was the things they could demand from him. They had been so immersed in their joy that they did not notice Adriane’s gloomy mood.

To Adriane, it might be the best way for her to realize what kind of foster parents she had. They sold her off for their own benefit without any hesitation. That would break an eighteen–year–old girl’s heart. She would have only Jenkins, especially Arthur and Albert, who cared about her.

Albert felt it was worth it to spend a few million to separate Adriane from her foster family.

After all, his youngest son had already suffered so much that it would be cruel for his future wife to betray him.

Albert restrained Adriane’s choices by showing her the disguise of her foster parents. He knew Adriane would know what to do next if she was smart enough.

Hendrix looked at his father silently. Fear began to engulf him as he thought about his father’s despicable means. He had a feeling his father liked Adriane from the depth of his heart, but he realized that he would have to reconsider that. Albert did not seem to treat Adriane sincerely either. She was something that Albert could use to keep Arthur happy.

That girl, who was fresh out of high school, was caught in the middle of a spiral of conspiracy. It was pathetic for Hendrix to even think about it.

Meanwhile, in the Stewarts‘ mansion, other relatives left after lunch except for Zack, who had a duty of driving Adriane back to Jenkins‘ manor the next

day.

The relatives kept complimenting Edward and Rebel during lunch that they had adopted a walking cash machine. It made Adriane have the urge to roll her eyes when she heard that “compliment“.

After the meal, Rebel probably noticed that Adriane was upset. She talked to Adriane and tried to make her understand, “Don’t get us wrong, Adria. We are sending you to Jenkins‘ manor because we think they can give you a better life.”

Adriane sneered, feeling disgusted by Rebel’s shameless explanation from deep down her heart. That was a lie that could only deceive kids, and she was. not a kid anymore. Well! She decided to play along with them.

She looked at Rebel with tears rolling in her eyes and sobbed, “I thought you agreed to let me stay there during the holidays because you didn’t want me

anymore…”

Rebel immediately took Adriane into her arms and patted Adrian’s back twice, only to maintain her reputation as a good foster mother, “We won’t abandon you. You will always be our daughter.”

“But there are so many people in Jenkins‘ manor. I don’t know anyone. I’m scared.”

“They won’t harm you You have Sir Albert backing you up.”

“When I had dinner with Jenkins yesterday, I couldn’t join in their conversation…” Adriane grabbed onto Rebel’s clothes and whispered, “Mother, I think it will be better if I call Mr. Jenkins and tell him that I won’t be going tomorrow.”

“You must go!” Rebel shouted as panic surged her when Adriane said something like that. Seeing that Adriane was startled, Rebel realized that she had overreacted. The Stewarts would be in grave danger if they broke their promise after getting so many benefits from Albert.

50, Rebel patiently asked, “What was their conversation about during dinner?”

Adriane replied gloomily, “Cars and jewelry. All those luxurious items.”

Rebel took a deep breath. Then she decided to give it a go, “Don’t worry. I will give you the money you need. Go and get some luxurious stuff for yourself. I’m sure you’ll be able to have something to talk about at dinner with those girls and boys.”

Chapter 15

“Really?” Adriane lifted her head and looked at Rebel excitedly. Of course, it was just another act Adriane was putting on,

“Well, I’m going to give you a hundred…”

“Mother, I want one million dollars!” Adriane smiled innocently.

Rebel almost fainted when she heard that demand, “A million? That’s a lot.”

“Well…” Adriane fluttered her eyelashes, “The cars they drive are mostly custom–made. I won’t be able to buy one like that even if I have one million dollars. Forget it, mother. Let’s save up that money for some other things. I better not go and stay in Jenkins‘ manor and disgrace myself and our family’s reputation.”

Rebel took another deep breath to calm herself down as she could feel her blood pressure rising. Then she forced a smile and said, “Well… One million it is then. I’ll transfer the money to your account now.”
