Azian Prince of Dragons

Chapter 8 — Ignere

Abigail's POV

I passed through the dark streets, being extremely careful to hide in the shadows taking off the invisibility hood I had on. No witch really used these anymore, it was much easier to do the spell, but Magic didn't work in Paria.

I was almost out of Paria the neutral city where all kinds lived, the Free, they called themselves living under the King of Kings palace I had just escaped, past Paria.

I hitched a ride on a wagon heading out of the city. I felt weary and tired after my big heist.

Those little blood suckers were dumber than I thought. I held the bangle.in my hands quickly tracing over it. It was nothing special, it looked like a token the Parian merchants would sell.

Did king Alec really think his little soldiers could kill the dragon prince? If I was able to infiltrate their little barriers what more a dragon? No, I would be the one to end the little prince's life. They needed someone cunning and easy like me, one that blended in with the shadows but possessed great power to protect herself.

The last words of my Aunt echoed in my mind, her broken figure flashing in my mind as she fought between life and death. I shook my head to erase these images.

I loved her to death, but I would not obey her wishes. Why should I protect a dragon?

They would kill us all.

No, I would kill him myself, therefore saving my people and getting my sweet revenge.

I had memorized all of Emma's spell book and practiced a lot in these three years. I was still learning as new spells appeared each month as was the case with the protector's book. Nevertheless, fewer and fewer spells were being introduced which led me to believe I was coming to the end of my five-year long training.

At least I had what it took to defeat and slaughter the little prince and this little trinket would get me through the barrier.

When the carriage stopped safely outside the city I had to teleport back home.

Normally a journey from Paria to Riota (the witch kingdom) took three days by wagon. But as witches we could easily teleport once we were out of the vicinity of the old city.

No one was allowed to do magic, kill, fly, or transform in Paria. It was considered a holy city, where everyone must be neutral.

I sighed as I slipped into my cottage removing the thick coat that had hid me from the soldiers.

Slumping in the wooden chair, a took the bangle out of my pocket. Tomorrow I would go into the forest and finish him off once and for all.

I heard a knock on the door and quickly stood up blowing the candle off.

The witch kingdom was in havoc since they did not have a great protector anymore.

Most of the people considered me as the protector but the king would not hear of it and frankly I did not want to protect the king that was responsible for the death of my aunt, so all was well.

I helped those that needed my help and taught magic as well to the other witches all while being hunted by the Kings guards. You would think they would give up after 5 years. "Abigail," a small voice came through from the door.

I sighed letting out a deep breath, I knew that tiny soft voice from anywhere, it was my best friend, Anna. She got married and now was heavily pregnant. The aura inside her was that of a girl.

I opened the door for her, and she walked in. Her eyes filled with worry. She hugged me and drew me closer to her "Abigail!" she screeched, squeezing me tightly in a bear hug.

"I'm fine, stress is not good for you in that condition," I replied, helping her toward a wooden chair by the table.

"You will be the death of me! You don't want me to stress but the guards came looking for you all over the place, some were even vampires you know I hate those blood suckers!" she snapped. "Easy easy, "I said softly rubbing her back as I sat down across her.

I handed her a glass of water. She stared at me and I knew she was going to ask, "so what did you do?"

I shrugged as I gulped down a glass of water.

"Abi!" she snapped angrily, "My feet hurt from walking and I've relieved myself more than nine times today. So, I'm looking for someone to blame and I feel really cranky so if your gonna keep stalling and not answer a question someone who cares about you is asking then I'll have to conclude that you're no better than a—"

"I was at the castle," I interrupted knowing she would go on and on.

She gasped wanting to scold me, but I held my hand to stop her, "I was at the castle stealing an ancient token, the only artefact powerful enough to penetrate the dragon magic that binds the dark forest," I finished.

She looked at me in astonishment "and?"

"and what?"

"did you manage to get it?"

"Yes, yes, I did," I replied taking out the band.

She grabbed it and examined, "It doesn't look valuable," she said eyeing the bronze stripes on it, "do you even know if it will work?"

I shrugged, "there's only one way to find out," I replied She shook her head standing up in alarm, "No! No! Don't even think of its Abi!" she exclaimed.

"You know I am," I huffed in reply.

"It's the dark forest, what if your wrong? You know what happened to your aunt!"

My eyes shifted at that.

Yes I did. I searched the last of her memories before she was laid to rest. The kings would pay for what they did to her. After I eliminate the ultimate threat I would descend on each one of them. Sure it was hard to kill a fully grown pure blood Vampire, a moon crested Lycan and the King of angels, but they would soon get what was coming.

"You can't afford such a mistake and I can't afford losing you," there were tears in her eyes as she said this.

I walked up to her, "Nothing will happen to me Anna, you know I'm strong. They can't take me down easily."

"Yes I know, but these are not stupid guards, these are cunning dragons. Everything about them is bigger than you! Magic, intelligence, size, please don't do this," she begged.

I left her side and sat down, "you know I will Anna, I have to " I replied softly, before gulping down some water.

Anna sighed as she sat down again, "for whom exactly? For your people or for revenge?"

I looked up at her my eyes wavering, remaining silent.

"Fine, if you insist on being stubborn then I'm going with you," she began, staring directly at me.

I laughed out loud, "You're pregnant Anna!" I jeered She smiled looking down at her child," she's strong and she'll handle it" she retorted rubbing her belly.

I shook my head, "if anything happened to that baby I would never forgive myself, and neither would Michael. Taking someone's life so young-"

"But you're gonna do it," Anna interrupted.

I raised up an eyebrow "No, because you're not coming with me," I replied with a chuckle.

"I wasn't talking about us." she retorted with a slight eyeroll her hand making its way down to her bump, "I meant the dragon prince. You're going to kill him right?"

The question took me off guard. As sure as the fires that raged by set, I did want revenge. But was I really going to slit a toddler's throat? The boy must be five or six winters. I cleared my throat uncomfortably.

"Abi?" Anna asked I looked up at her shrugging carelessly.

She clasped hand over her mouth, barring her gasp "really? You're gonna do that?" she asked pushing her chair back and rubbing her tummy protectively.

"oh, please Anna, don't look at me like that! The boys going to wipe out your whole race! What? Now you have feelings for him?" I asked sheepishly.

She looked away, "I know his destiny but still, I can't help but wonder how his parents must feel to know that everyone wants there only child dead," she shuddered. "Anna? "

She looked back at me, her eyes reading my soul, "I just hope you do the right thing, you've never failed, not even once," she whispered, smiling softly.

The words hooked themselves inside me as I nodded.

"Well in that case, I'll be on my way," she said trying to get up, I helped her to her feet, before leaning down to place a kiss on her tummy, "be good" I whispered to the baby inside.

Anna smiled,

"Can't wait till you become a mother."

I blushed, "I can't wait either" she hugged me and pinched me. "Don't die " she whispered in my ear.

"Can't get rid of me that easy " I replied as we said goodbye.

***

I stood at the edge of the Ignere forest.

It was midnight and the mist had spread all over the forest. I breathed out as I heard a wolf cry in the distance.

The moon was up but the mist covered its moonlight glow. It was now or never. I put the bangle on and took a deep breath.

"Don't Die" Anna's words rang in my head.

I definitely didn't want to die before seeing her baby, but I needed to do this.

For my people, for my aunt and for myself, for some sense of closure. I muttered an invisibility spell under my breath before using up all my courage, walking into the dark forest.

It was misty and gloomy with broken branches all over the place, but I made sure to make as little noise as I could.

The band had obviously worked as I walked down the shadowy paths. It

Then all of a sudden I heard a roar.

I froze.

Then I saw it.

As you reach the final pages, remember that 000005s.org is your destination for the complete story. Share the joy of reading with others and spread the word. The next chapter is just a visit away! Never in my winters had I ever thought would see a dragon. The sudden sight petrified me to the core.

It was small that I had out to account but something about it made it fearful.

It was looked straight at me, bearing its sharp teeth. It wasn't so large, actually it was very small, but this did not lessen my fear of it as it moved slowly, short growls and rows emitting from its mouth, cocking its head to the side as it studied

me.

It could see through my invisibility spell that was for sure. Maybe magic didn't work here too?

It took a step toward me and I took a step back. Little or not, dragons we're something I was no expert in. Who's to say it wouldn't burn me to a crisp.

"Edwin!! " I heard someone shout out from the darkness.

I froze even more at the deepness of the voice that called out in utter command. My eyes spotted the figure of a large man walking towards the dragon. The young dragon kept his eyes on me, taking short steps in my direction as I held my breath..

"where are you?!" the man bellowed.

I could now see the young dragon clearly.

He was young as I expected and quite short. He had strange colors mostly purple and grey and then his bones on his wings were easily shown. He reached my spot and paused, barely two feet away from me.

My heart rammed inside me, praying to Erania he wouldn't do anything rash.

I took a deep breath as it walked near me, seeing to sniff something out.

Then suddenly it stood still and right before my eyes, I could see him slowly change from dragon to boy, the scales slowly fading or more accurately retreating in his skin, a human form taking shape. I had seen Lycan's changed but never before had I seen a dragon.

He shifted until he was standing half naked before me as his scales were disappearing but we're still covering his lower half.

Yes, he looked like he was five or six summers with hair the shade of my own and brown eyes.

He looked at me as if he could see me plainly then smiled.

I froze for a second not knowing what to do but smiled as well, waving a little.

"Edwin? What are you doing over there?" the man asked as he headed towards him. I closed my eyes, a fear crawling within me.

One hour and the great witch had been caught.

He came and draped a small coat over the little boy who I assumed was Edwin.

He also had brown eyes but dark hair and broad shoulders that reached his shoulders. He was taller than any man I had ever seen, his aura was deadly and strong.

"Let's go my little guardian, fun's over," the man said in more of a growl like way, lifting him up as Edwin giggled.

I couldn't believe that that man had not seen me.

"Bye!" the little boy shouted back at me waving his little hands. I froze again.

"That's right boy, say goodbye to the woods. Don't worry tomorrow's another day, for another hunt," the monster of a man huffed.

I nervously waved back at the little boy and he smiled burying his neck into the man who I assumed was his father.

After they disappeared I decided to follow them.
