Chapter 15 — Michael
Abigail's POV
A Liche dragon? Raising people from the dead? All this seemed all too risky.
I turned to look at Anna, her fists were tightly clenched before she reached out to take my hand giving it a tight squeeze. "H-have you ever done this before?" I asked him.
Edwin paused for a second before nodding, "I have, but not humans," he clarified, "small birds and such," he concluded.
I breathed out. I didn't know if that was good enough, but I do know there was a price we would have to pay. The stronger the magic you used the higher the consequences. "Please, "Anna pleaded," if you can do it, even the slightest possibility, please try," Anna pleaded.
I shook my head turning to Anna. "I don't think we should be raising a man from the grave. That's dark magic, Anna. Nothing possibly good can come back from it, he might not even be the Michael we remember," I whispered, trying to be as delicate as I could as I explained, "there must be side effects."
Edwin nodded, "there are side effects, and they are rules. I cannot raise the dead if their bodies were destroyed, I can however raise bones, but only to fight, they will become my slaves, soulless creatures that will do my bidding. I can raise a mass amount of people in my dragon form, but those would only be soldiers as well. Stealing someone soul from death, will take a great amount of energy, so I may be powerless, sometimes death demands a Price for their soul, a death for a death, life for life, depends on his mood, sometimes he gets kind, so.. It depends,"
"Also," Azian began, "Edwin does not need magic to raise souls, it's his natural ability," Azian explained so casually I failed to believe he was about six, "Michael will come back as you remember because within 24 hours the souls haven't yet crossed over to the afterlife."
"Death is kind of lazy as is the ferry man." Edwin added with a slight shrug, "Y-you mean you've met death?" I asked astounded, I mean the boy was only seven or eight.
"Liche dragons and death are related. Legends says death fell in love with one of the Goldens, and eloped, creating our species, we do have this surreal connection to him," he explained.
"So, you're saying, you're a descendant of death?" Anna asked her eyes widened.
Edwin laughed a little, "death has many descendants, he eloped with whomever he deemed beautiful, hence comes us, Liche dragons, necromancers and many other creatures but out of them all, we are most powerful, half golden, half death. He takes a great liking to me because I'm the last of my species, so I'm sure if I asked him for Michael, he may give it to me, he never minded about the birds because as you know birds are soulless creatures. Despite what you might think, Death is not as heartless as written."
Both Anna and I exchanged looks at the last compliment directed to death.
Edwin seemed to read our thoughts because he went on.
"A lot of people are scared of Death because he takes them to the other side, but that is his purpose, it is not his fault if you were bad on your time on earth, only you have the power to control where you go, he is only the passage to it," That did make sense, but still, I did not want to go anywhere near death, why? Because it's death!
I sighed turning to Anna, "you've heard what Edwin has to say, are you sure you want to do this? You risk Michael becoming immortal."
She paused for a second, I knew she was taking all I said into consideration.
She looked up at me, "I've known Michael for eighteen years," she began, "and he is...he was the perfect husband, and I know more than anything, he would do anything within his power just so he can see his baby. Every night he would rub my tummy and whisper to her how much he loves her and how he could wait to see her. I know he would want this," she took my hand and squeezed it," he would want this," she continued rubbing her tummy with her other hand. I nodded watching her thoughtfully, I knew how protective Michael was about his family, and I knew more than anything he wanted to see the birth of his daughter, and to be with his family.
I turned to Edwin, despite my magic's warning, "do it,"
He paused for a moment as if studying the both of us before nodding, his eyes closing. Then came the still silence. When he opened them again, He eyes were a bloodshot red,
Anna gasped and squeezed my hand tighter in an emotion I couldn't quite figure between fear and desperation.
Suddenly, the room temperature dropped so that we both started to shiver, then we saw the strangest thing. Edwin's hair stood up straight. I felt my own hair float upwards, I turned to look, and Anna and she too was staring at me in shock, her hair was up to, even Azian's.
She began to shiver, her chest raising up and down. Her breathing accelerating, I knew she was having a panic attack...
I rubbed her back, mouthing for her to breath in deeply, in a and out.
Azian moved away from Edwin making his way to Anna. He took her other hand and held it.
She seemed to relax more after Azian held her hand.
"What's his name?" Edwin asked in an unearthly deep voice.
"M-Michael" Anna replied in a shaky voice.
"What is his name?" Edwin bellowed, his voice raw and raspy,
"Michael! Michael Slander!" Anna shouted back.
Edwin titled his head lifting it to face the ceiling,
"You shall have him, he shall be immortal, and he shall live forever. That is his destiny. His soul will forever be trapped on the sands of the earth or until death as master decides. He shall breathe the breath of life and never lack of it again OR PAY DEATHS PRICE. "
Edwin paused, he suddenly turned to look at Anna, and his eyes were now black.
Anna winced, taking a deep breath in,
"Take him," Edwin said.
There was a moment of silence before the temperature seemed to get back to normal. Edwin fell back on the bed. Our hair flopped lifelessly down our backs. "Edwin, are you okay? Dear? "I asked leaning towards him and picking him up.
He opened his eyes slowly, he looked tired, very tired, "I'm fine Abigail, I just need to rest-" he closed his beautiful eyes just as Azian scooted next to him.

"He will be alright, " Azian confirmed. I nodded looking back at Anna,
"D-Do you think it worked?" she asked
I nodded, "I think it did. "
She breathed out nervously, "I hope so. I just want Michael," she said softly.
I understood her, "hey, let's get you changed, "I told her after the realization hit me that she was in fact wet, thanks to Azian's thunderstorm he caused earlier, no doubt.
She nodded as I helped her stand up,
"I'll be back Azian, let me just help Anna here, take care of Edwin," I said.
He nodded covering Edwin in my soft blue blanket.
Anna smiled, "aren't they just adorable? No wonder you couldn't do it," she whispered.
I smiled, "I know I should have, but I can't help but feel what I did was right, you were right, "I just can't end someone's life like that, "
Anna pulled back a strand of hair for my face, her slender hand titled my chin to look up at her, "for what's it worth, in your position, I would have done the same," she eased. I nodded as we walked out of the room.
