Chapter Storm 8
WREN
__________
Six months after Kassidy's death. . .
After saying my goodbyes to Mama, I walked out of the memory. I stepped back into the hallway and closed my eyes. I went deep into the back of my mind to find the doubt Styloneus had put there over my powers.
I felt them at my fingertips, boiling, ready to be used at any moment. But I had to calm them down. I couldn't set them off right now, I needed them for later on.
I opened my eyes.
The bloodied door was taunting me again. The handprints, the opened door, it was just calling out to me.
My feet carried me across the cobblestone tunnel floor to that restless door. As I got closer, the screams and smell of blood had gotten stronger.
An aching feeling of familiar feelings of anger, hunger and death filled the air. I needed to leave. Get away from there. I knew exactly what was behind that door. All the times I killed and slaughtered people, all the times I had committed crimes, all the times I had let people down. It was all behind that door.
My hand reached out, my heart thrashed around my chest wanting to be free of all of this. My fingers had barely touched the knob before I was pulled in. This wasn't like the last door with Mama. That door was full of life and happiness and I was allowed to walk in by my own. This door sucked me in and slammed itself behind me.
I was surrounded by darkness. The smell of blood and dead bodies drifted into my nose. It was night, the moon was high and shown pieces of bodies scattered across the field.
A crunching noise filled my ears. The gnawing of bones made my head snap up towards the sound. A body was smoking over another one. It was heaving, snarling, inhaling the whatever it was eating. I gulped, I could see it from here. The bloody red aura, the red lightning current that formed inside of the aura. It was dark, hungry even.
It was me.
My body was covered head to toe in blood, and I knew it wasn't mine. Just by seeing the dozens of scattered bodies laying on the ground told me that much. I walked closer to me. Watching everything that he did. I still can't believe that I didn't remember any of this, all of the killing I had done.
I took a closer look at myself, my body looked the size I was now, but that couldn't have been recent. No, this is the first time I went full 'Demon Dog', as Kassidy put it. This was the day that Stylo had brought my power out of dormancy. I kept gnawing in the dead body, crushing it's bones with my jaws like it was nothing.
"More..." I grumbled. Well, past me did. I walked until I was right in front of him.
His crimson eyes shown in the moonlight. His teeth looked like razors as they sliced through was little of the Wolf was left. My claws were black and dipped in the crimson liquid, hell, it was all over me.
"More..." I growled or this time. My head snapped up in the direction of a nearing noise. I looked in the direction he was and found Ben walking over to us with his hands up.
"Hey, Wrenji. Put the wolf down, he's dead now." He spoke softly as he came closer.
"I'm still hungry." I mumbled and chewed on another bone. It crumbled between my jaws. I inwardly cringed at myself, how could I have willing eat a person?
"I know you are, believe me. I am too." Ben's eyes flashed red.
Wait, why are his eyes red?
He didn't become a Demon that day.
Then I remembered what Mama told me about one of us being close to the other in this state.
Our powers synced together.
"Then come and eat," my arms spread wide and pointed at all of the dismantled bodies.
"There's enough for the both of us, brother." I smirked. The bloody teeth were spread wide for anyone to see. The razor sharp canines were stained red and my face was too.
Ben just shook his head.
"Let's go, Wren, now." His voice had gotten deeper with the Alpha dominance slipping in.
I laughed and spit out a bloody pice of meat.
"Make me." I stood up and dropped the dead wolf from my hands and walked away from it like it didn't matter anymore.
"Wren," he called out. He gulped and clenched his fist together. His eyes flashed red again and the sound of claws elongating filled the air.
My eyes looked at him in shock and another bloody smile graced my lips.
"Are you joining the party, brother?" I smiled at him.
Damn I was crazy.
Maybe I still am.
Ben shook his head, a low growl came out of his throat as he tried to hold back the Demon powers that wanted to take over.
"Come on, brother. We can be strong and rule over everything. Together." I held out a blood covered hand to him.
"No, Wrenji, we can't be like this right now. It's isn't our-" He dropped to his knees and a roar came out.
Worry flashed in my eyes I ran over to him.
"Ben!" I kneeled down and took his shoulders in my hands. He was shaking, growls rumbled out of him and his mouth had stayed in a snarl.
"Move. . .back, Wren." He strained out. I shook my head and picked him up with one hand under his arm and his other arm over my shoulders.
Ben's booming roar shook the ground. He pushed the hand that held onto him and threw me out into a tree. My body crashed into the tree with a crack. Ben's breathing became e en more erratic as his eyes turned into the bright blazing crimson color.
"We're leaving this place." I held a determined look on my face as I walked closer to probably drag him through the clearing.
"No more torture, no more workouts, no more Alphas. Just me and you, Benji." I croaked.
Past Me had gotten off the ground and stood up like nothing even happened to him. Whatever wounds that were on his back had disappeared.
"I can't leave, Wren! Don't you see?! We are bound to this place, we can never escape!" Ben yelled.
"This darkness is taking over us. It's eating us alive, brother. We could never leave and live our lives together like this." He pointed out into the field.
"This isn't the worst that we could do." Ben lowered his head and let out a malicious laugh.
Past Me started laughing with him.
The two of us laughing like there was no tomorrow. Any other person would think we were having a jolly ol' time, but we were actually becoming Demons.
"We could do so much more!" Past Me tried to reason. He extended his arms to show Ben what he meant.
"I did this by myself, just imagine what it would be like if it was the both of us, brother." He looked at his older brother for a reaction. The only thing Ben did was smile.
"We'd be unstoppable." Ben smirked wickedly. Then he charged at Past Me. He tackled me over the dip in the field. We fell through trees and leaves and lives of dead bodies until we both fell to the ground.
I followed behind them to see where we were going. Past me had set Ben down as he started howling in pain. His aura started to change into the dark crimson electrical aura.
"We..." Ben strained out. Past me had tripped over a rock and we both fell down the hill. Ben roared out again, I knew this one. He had did that kind of roaring during the battle when he shifted.
My eyes went wide, I followed after them. Past Me groaned and rolled onto his back. I ran over to Ben and looked him over. His eyes were still white with bloody irises, but his breathing was out of control and black claws came out of his nails.
How is he changing right now?
And how did he put a lock on his powers when I went crazy with them?
"Wren," he huffed out. Past Me crawled over to him and looked him over.
"Yeah, brother?" Past Me leaned in.
Ben gave a wicked smile. Razor sharp canines elongated and his aura had gotten even darker than my own.
What the hell was happening to him?
Black veins coursed through the whites of his eyes as his smile had gotten wider and wider.
"Run..."
