Awakening The Storm

Chapter Storm 6

WREN

__________

Six months after Kassidy's death. . .

Running feet bounded across the rainy field. Five friends in particular were running away from being imprisoned for months in the basement in cells doing unimaginable acts for the one that had captured them in the first place.

Who are those friends you ask?

Well, there are the two McAllistair brothers Ben, my brother and Wren, me. Then comes the brother of my mate, Kash Grayson. Next up, is the friend of them all, the witch, Anais Lange. Last but not least, Isaac Robinson, a Vampire whose brother had been dead for two years.

Why is this group of supernatural teenagers together?

For a common cause...

To kill the man they're currently running from.

"We're in deep shit." Isaac concluded. I looked over to him and flipped him off while also suppressing my powers.

We were all out of shape since we've been stuck in that damn building. Anais kept stumbling around as we ran, tripping over her own feet every five seconds.

"Damnit," I grumbled.

"Someone pick Anais up!" I shout over my shoulder.

Pants and groans could be heard behind me, I get it. We were all tired but we couldn't drag each other down like this.

"I got her!" Kash's voice called out. I turned to look at him pick the smaller girl over his shoulder as he caught up to the rest of us.

"Guys, we need to go faster!" Kash yelled over all of the growls from the undead rogue wolves trailing behind us.

"What the hell do you mean by that?!" Ben asked with a crack to his voice. I've never seen my brother afraid of anything before. His eyes were wide and held a glint if fear as the rogues started gaining on us.

Hell, I was even scared at this point too. Having to suppress my powers so we couldn't be tracked was the hardest thing I've ever done, and on top of that, I was weakened a bit too from my cell chains.

"Have you forgotten that I have sone of Kassidy's abilities? She could compel allusions, if I could get some of my juice up I could make us disappear into thin air!" Kash responded. I mean he had a point there.

"Do it, Kash! Now! I know how we could all undo the spell the chains had on our powers!"I yell.

He pants some more and turns a bit with Anais still on his shoulder.

"Now or never." Kash growled.

Flashback:

"How did you die, Mama?" I ask her. Her warm hand was still holding mine as it tightened a bit.

"I knew you were gonna ask me about that sooner or later." She mumbled, her hand came up and rubbed her brow as her eyes had closed shut.

"If you can't tell me how you died yet, just tell me why dad decided to abuse me and Ben. I deserve to at least know that." Her eyes snapped to mine, tears brimming in them as she looked into my eyes longer.

"Okay. I'll tell you why Braxton did what he did first, then the other one." She sighed.

"Take your time." I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze and a small smile.

"That's what's wrong, we don't have much time because you have to be leavin' soon darlin'. You need to escape and take your brother and friends far away from this place. Once you have your strength back you can fight. But not now." She closed her eyes again and leaned her head back.

"I know, Ma." I looked down at our hands. Damn mine were bigger than hers. Not too long ago her hands were swamping mine, things really do change.

"Okay," she sighed running her free hand through her hair.

"After I was killed, Braxton was struggling with You two boys. All of you were suffering greatly of my death, and for that I am so sorry that I caused you boys so much pain. Your dad was given an ultimatum. Either you two boys died the next day after me and he'd be tortured or you boys training to be what you are now." She squeezed my hand again.

"Anyway, my death wasn't even by the Elders, it was Styloneus. He actually didn't kill me at all."

What?

"W-what do you mean he didn't kill you, Mama?" My throat filled with a sickening lump and the tears pricked at my eyes again.

"I'm trapped inside of another plain, Wren. The same one that your mate is in." She dropped the bomb.

My stomach twisted uncomfortably inside, my mind was officially done with these explosions.

"Where are you? Where is she?!" My heart pounded against my ribcage at the thought of seeing my mate again.

"Purgatory." There was silence. I sat back in my chair and gazed out the window before my eyes cared down on the table.

"Isn't that place just a myth? It can't possibly be true." I was just confused all over. So much brain crushing information in one sitting.

"Purgatory is no myth, it's very real. It's the place where us supernaturals go when we pass, or it's where creatures fight to survive and escape. But no one has ever escaped. Your mate, your friends, and I are trapped in a specially designed part of Purgatory that Styloneus had created. She should be okay and safe but I don't know for sure believe never seen her there, he just talks to me about his plans and whatnot." She waves it off like what she just said wasn't important to our situation at all.

"Ma!" I groan. I can't believe this woman. This could seriously help us and she just dismissed it like it's nothing.

"What? The man can't stop talking to me. It's actually very sad how someone so powerful uses his magic to ruin everything. I think he's just a bit lonely." She whispered.

"Well, he did it to himself. We never asked for any of this, we definitely don't deserve it. Well, Kassidy doesn't at least." My heart throbs for my mate.

I miss her.

"What's her name?" Mama asked.

I smiled to myself just thinking of her name sent a wave of fireworks through me.

"It's Kassidy. How did you not remember? You were the one who said we all hung out as kids and all that." I look at my mother with questioning eyes.

"You know how terrible I am at names. Heck, I barely remember my own name." She laughed.

A smile cracked at my lips as a chuckle slipped from my lips creating even more laughter in the room.

"I wish Benji was here." I mumbled.

"I do too." She smiled at me with those bright green eyes.

"How's my boy doing?"

"He's under a bit of mind control at the moment." Her eyes looked like they were leap from her sockets at my response.

"I know right, him out of all people under mind control, he's too stubborn of a person. Even more than the old man." I chuckled dryly.

"I know what he did was terrible, but he wasn't even him at the time." My eyes snapped up the hers.

"He was an experiment of Styloneus' first casting of his mind control spell. Your dad gave you the work outs but Styloneus has made him beat you boys down. I've never wanted to kill someone so badly in my life, but I knew that all of my boys would pull through and become stronger." Her hand that was once in mine caressed my cheek.

"What if we had both died?" I ask. She visibly winked at the question and turned the other way.

"I would've came back to life myself and ripped that man to smithereens. No one, and I mean no one fucks with my family." She growled.

For the first time in my life I knew why so many had feared to cross paths with my mom. She was very scary, even to me.

"Ma, can I ask you something?" She stopped growling like a switch flipped when I opened my mouth.

"What-yes, darlin'. What is it?" She smiled sweetly at me.

"What happened to my real father? The demon one." Her whole body stiffened.

Her emotions were running wild, it was like a beacon in the sky.

"I knew your powers had activated. I felt it when it happened. I felt it when Ben's started to appear, it was when you put in that cell. His powers synced with yours but he had a easier way with settling his inner demon since he was older and his wasn't forced out with that spell." She explained.

So that's why Ben knew what he was doing while in that state.

My mind filled with more and more questions at the information kept piling up on theories that Xander had.

The memory of him was still fresh in mind as Mary Anne held his dying body in her arms as he heaved out his dying breath.

'Get it together, Wren!' His scoldings would always stay in my mind.

"Is Xander really dead? You said earlier that Styloneus doesn't kill anyone, he traps them." My heart thumped to life.

"Xander Grayson? I haven't heard of him being there in Purgatory. When did he die?" Mama asked.

"When Kassidy did." I answered back, maybe a bit too quickly.

"How did he die?" She asked with a serious tone.

"With a poison. Kassidy had in her body too but our Keeper had given her an elixir to hold off its effects." I tell her.

"What did it look like? What color, smell?" She prodded.

"It was only black and it turned your veins red then black as it takes its toll on you. I even had been poisoned, but I guess they cured me so I wouldn't die." I shrugged.

Her face twisted into a scowl as the words left my mouth.

"I can't wait for the day he dies. He should've been the one to die, not Xander." She whispered out that last part with a solemn look on her face.

"I want to get us out of this mess so bad, Mama." I groan and lean back in my chair and rub my face harshly with my hands.

"So what's stopping you?" She raised a dark blonde brow at me.

"My powers aren't in full swing yet. Ever since those chains have been on they put most of my abilities to rest." I explain. Her eyebrows shot up and a small disbelieving smile reached her lips.

"Do you really believe that cowardly bastard could really put a pin on the massive amount of power you have?! He can't, Wren." She giggled humorlessly.

It was my turn for my brows to shoot up.

"What do mean by that? He's been able to do all this other crazy stuff so why wouldn't he be able to put a cap on mine or the others abilities?" I question my mom.

She waved me off and laughed some more.

"He can't actually put a cap on anyone's power unless they are lower than you. But, he can put ideas in your mind that he can suppress your powers. And I have a theory on what you asked me earlier about him." She says sitting forward with her hands clasped together as she looked at me.

"Let's hear it." I smile just thinking about letting all of my anger and frustrations out in this asshole.

"I think he was able to hold you down for as long as he did because some of his magic is inside of you already." She proposed.

"How could his magic be in my body already?" I tilt my head at her.

"The time he healed your body and unlocked your demon half. Then when he killed you two years later. His magic responds to his magic like magnets." She shrugged and flicked her wrist uninterested in this conversation.

"I don't get what you mean still." My mind was blank.

Set on white noise in the back of my mind trying to comprehend what she's getting at.

"Just think about it, if his magic is already in one place already, what makes you think that when he comes back that the magic there won't react to him and his demands." She finishes.

Holy hell she was smart.

And thy the hell didn't I think of that?!

"So what you're saying is when his magic that's been inside of someone it stays until his magic from his body comes back and the two magic pieces do stuff together?" My head is still trying to wrap the information around it.

"Yes, That why you couldn't pull the glass from your chest when you were dying. The magic he was using with his hands was pushing the glass in while the magic that was already inside was pulling it in." She tells me.

"Okay," I say while nodding my head.

"How do I stop it?"

"Rely entirely on your wolf and he'll break the magic inside of your body with his own mighty power. Basically eliminating it all together." She says with a knowing smile.

"Thanks, Ma." I smile right back.

She stands up from her chair and dusts off her dress, then I stand up too and stand in front of her.

"You gotta get going soon, I believe in you entirely, darlin'." She took hold of my cheeks and stared into my eyes.

"Face whatever horrors you have done and move on and keep it in your past. There is always a second chance for redemption, so I want you to get the hell out of here and kick some ass. For me." She smiles cheekily.

I laughed and grabbed my mom in a hug.

I forgot how much I missed being in her arms.

"I will, Mama." I kiss her hair.

"For you, her, and everyone else."

"I love you, darlin'." She whispered.

I sighed out a breath.

"I love you too, Ma."
