Ava- Ever Green Series Book Two

Chapter 8

Serena was busy doing an ancient civilization question when she heard a crash. She got up to investigate and saw Ava running out the door. Next, a wolf appeared in Ava’s place, running towards the woods. Then, she heard the heartbroken howl. Serena was shaking with fear and dunked down to hide her fear. She was confused.

How could werewolves exist? They were pure fiction. Her world had turned upside down just now. Serena decided to forget about it for now. It was for the best. She went back to do her homework like nothing just happened.

Ava came into the room and said, “Sorry.”

Serena doesn’t say anything at first. She looks up, “I saw you transform. When were you going to tell me?”

“I am still trying to figure it out,” was all Ava could muster.

The air in the room was tense. Just pure silence and no one talking. Ava was annoyed, “Are you going to be weird around me? Now that you know I am a werewolf?”

Serena just sits there on the floor and says, “It will take getting used to.”

Ava was about to talk some more when there was a knock at the door. It was Maria. Maria opened the door and poked her head in to say, “Ava, can we talk some more after Serena leaves?”

“Sure,” Ava nonchalantly.

“Good. Because it does involve your father too.” Maria explains before leaving Ava to her own devices.

Serena looked at her phone to see that it was late and probably should leave. She told Ava she would text her later to what happens with everything going on with her best friend. Also, she needing to find out more about her friend being a werewolf. Waving bye to Ava then left for home.

Ava goes downstairs to the kitchen to find Maria. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to know just yet. Maria was waiting for her as well as Thomas. Maria begins,” Your father's recent events currently aren’t looking good. The cops found some evidence linking him to the murder but the charges aren’t going to stick. I did contact a lawyer just in case.”

“What does Ava have to do with the kid that was killed?” Thomas interjected.

“He was your sister’s friend. It will complicit things for her” Maria replied, “Now stop Thomas.”

“Henry was a werewolf like Ava is,” Thomas reveals to Maria.

Maria acted like she already doesn’t know that her adopted daughter is a werewolf through birth due to her birth parents. She thought to never mention that anyway. Maria continued, “ Thomas could leave the room, please? I need to talk to Ava in private.”

Thomas leaves the room. Leaving only Ava and Maria in the kitchen.

“ Why did you tell me you shifted already?” Maria asked.

“ What was supposed to say? Oh, guess what mom? I am a werewolf.” Ava sarcastically told Maria, “Especially, when you and dad hid that I was adopted. What else is there to say? I feel like you are never going to fully tell me the truth about anything. So, I can’t trust you or dad about anything right now.”

Ava left the kitchen and slammed her bedroom door.

Maria sat on the island staring at her empty glass. She was hoping her daughter wouldn’t react as she did before. Ava was right about her hiding stuff from her. Getting the courage to tell her everything was not in the t thing for now. Maria needed to give her daughter space. So, she heads to the living room to be with Thomas.

“You told her she was adopted didn’t you?” Thomas asked never looking away from the television.

“Yes, I did. She didn’t take it well.” Maria said suddenly feeling sad about doing it.

“Mom, it was bound to come up eventually. It was best instead of later. You didn’t tell her about the supernatural hunting business, and for now, we sho,uld keep it that way” Thomas interjected.

Not realizing Ava was silently listening from upstairs in the hallway, she doesn’t know what to think, but she could be a possiblanger from her own family.
