Chapter 76
Chapter 76
Katerina:
I watched as the door opened, revealing Nikolay who entered the house.
The kids were still in their daycare and I had to admit, I wasn’t expecting him to be back.
I was standing with the maids, watching as they cleaned, making sure that nothing of the ornaments broke and that they didn’t ignore a spot. I had a vacuum in my hand and was vacuuming the carpet, wanting it to be cleaned the way that I saw correct.
I
put the vacuum down at the sight of Nikolay, and he raised an eyebrow at me when he saw me walking toward him. He was still my husband and though I wanted nothing more than to be away from him, I knew to take care of my responsibilities. I wasn’t going to give him an edge on me.
“Welcome home, Nikolay,” I said, my tone calm as I spoke, knowing not to press on any subjects that I knew he wouldn’t want to hear,
“Thank you,” he said, and I smiled, nodding at him. His eyes met mine and I took a step back, offering to help him take his jacket off. He looked at me for a second before he took a step back, allowing me to help him out.
The two of us didn’t talk, and though I said nothing, I could smell her perfume, a reminder of how things happened when I first found out about him cheating on me to begin with.
“Do you want something to eat? The kids are going to come home later this afternoon. It is still too early for lunch, but if you want to eat something or drink…”
“I already ate, thank you.” He said, and I nodded. “But I wouldn’t mind a cup of coffee while I shower.”
I nodded and turned to the kitchen to prepare his cup of coffee while he walked to the bedroom. I frowned, shaking my head before reminding myself of Viktor’s words. I needed to stay calm and I had to tend to things in his way, until at least he managed to find a loophole on him.
My phone vibrated, and I raised an eyebrow as I pulled my phone out of my pocket to smile when I saw that it was a message from Viktor.
-I hope that you’re staying calm.
I smiled and shook my head as I replied to the message.
-I am fine, and I am staying calm. Don’t worry.
-Good. Keep going.

-I will, don’t worry.
-I should, but I’ll trust you. Now, go. Our next meeting is in a week, and I am sure that have managed to get me something good.
you would
His reply made a spark of hope fill my insides as I deleted the message before I went back to preparing the coffee, reminding myself to be that good wife. The man was going to be my enemy, and that was something that I was going to be determined with. It was just a shame that I lost years with him and the energy that I spent for him.
“We’ll see how things go, Nikolay.” I said, picking up the cup of coffee. “For now, I am going to stay calm…”
“Daddy!” Andrew said, smiling at his father. He ran toward him, and I couldn’t help but feel my chest aching because of what is going to happen. I ran my fingers through my hair as I sat on the
couch.
Nikolay and I had the TV on, but I was scrolling through my phone and he was reading through an email on his tablet.
Nikolay got up and lifted both our son and daughter in his arms, hugging them tightly. They were happy for him to be back home, and it pained me to know that there would come a time where the two of us were going to have separate homes. I didn’t know how they were going to cope with it, but I knew that I was going to be sure that I was going to keep it as healthy as possible for him.
“How are you?” Nikolay asked, smiling at the two of them. Andrew walked toward me first and I smiled as he hugged and kissed me. Bianca did the same and I smiled before they both turned to
their father.
His eyes met mine and I looked away from him, knowing that he didn’t appreciate the fact that they did not respond to him. They were more focused on what they learned, and I cupped their cheeks, running my finger over them.
“Mama, can I go to the bathroom?” Andrew asked.
“Mama, I am hungry.” Bianca said, and I laughed.
“You two go, and I will prepare things for you. Miya is going to help you freshen up.” I said, and both nodded. Nikolay’s eyes were fixed on us, looking at the new family that we made, it was small, but I knew that we were making progress with it. I wasn’t going to let him hurt them or break what
we built.
I got up from the couch and nodded at Miya, motioning for her to take the kids to help prepare them. They were going to need to change their clothes and wash their faces as well.

I went to walk to the door and Nikolay wrapped his hand around my arm, stopping me. I raised an eyebrow at him, and I shook my head at him, silently asking him what he wanted to tell me.
“What are you teaching the children?” He asked, and I frowned, shaking my head in question.
“You should be around the kids first, Nikolay.” I said, pulling my arm from his grasp. “They want to see you around them, and they know that it is me as I am the one who is beside them. You need to let them see you by their side for them to be learning that they are their father.”
“I am their father whether or not…”
“I never said that you aren’t.” I said, stopping him. “Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go prepare the dining table. I do hope that you would be interested in joining us…”
