Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Katerina:

I had to fight back my rage as I opened the text, over, and over, and over again.

-As you can see, you are the last person that he even thinks to consider looking at. But then again, the two of us knew that this was bound to happen, didn’t we?

I put my phone away, knowing that I wasn’t going to do myself any good with reading through the message again. But I wasn’t dumb, I wasn’t going to delete it. For the first time in my life, I was going to use this to MY advantage.

I sat on the edge of the bed, ignoring the clench that I felt in my chest.

Nikolay wasn’t at home, of course he wouldn’t be. I just knew that things were not going to be in my favor now.

“Ma’am?” My maid, she was MY personal maid, Miya, called. I looked up at her and shook my head, waiting for what she was going to tell me.

I had a headache, and a problem was the last thing that I needed.

“Yes?”

“Ma’am, Bianca is ill. She has a sick stomach and…” I rushed out of the room without giving the woman the chance to say a word. Her eyes widened in surprise, and I could tell that she wasn’t expecting me to be this fast.

I walked inside my children’s suite. I knew that each one of them was to be given one of his own when they grew older, but right now, they were too young. Plus, it made it easier when it was story time or even when they had to study with their tutors. At least, until we had a proper library set for them.

“Baby?” I asked, getting on my knees in front of her.

“Mama, my tummy hurts.” She said, putting a hand on her stomach. Her eyes were bloodshot red, and the vomit that was inside the trash bin by her side told me that this was

“Call Alejandro, we are going to the hospital.” I said, looking at Miya. The woman nodded and rushed out of the room to call the driver. However, she was quick to return with the phone in her hand. Of course, the man went out with Nikolay.

“One of the drivers is to wait outside. And have Alejandro tell Nikolay that our daughter is sick. We’ll be waiting for him at the hospital.” I said, and she nodded. Andrew, who was asleep, was also sweating. The AC was open, I knew that he was fighting whatever he got as an infection, but I wasn’t going to wait until he couldn’t fight it any longer.

“Get Andrew dressed.” I said, taking a deep breath as I tried to calm myself down. This was the last thing that I needed right now. “And call their school. I want to know what they ate when they were there today…”

“You don’t need to worry, Mrs. Katerina. They are fine. They are going to need to rest, and the antibiotics that they’re taking would help their stomachs. But you managed to get them here before things got worse on them.” Their doctor, Dr. Jasper said, looking at me.

I ran my fingers through my hair, taking a deep breath as I nodded, thankful for him. It was a long night, but I was thankful for it when it ended to them waking up with no pain. Andrew slept through most of it. He often slept when he was sick, but poor Bianca was crying until she was given painkillers that helped her relax.

“They were sick all night yesterday. How am I supposed to relax about the fact that they are going to be okay?” I asked, shaking my head. One of the things that I hated most was when they grew ill. It was a reminder of how things were when they were first born. The memory of them staying in that incubator, the memory of me not being able to feed them, and the painful memory of the reason behind it.

“We are going to keep them here for the day. They are going to be released tomorrow. It was the sweets that they ate at the daycare. Maybe one of their classmates gave it to them? Or they had a small party at school. You should just be careful about the way that they eat their sweets and the amount that they take.” He said, and I nodded.

I couldn’t call their school about it yet. I will be visiting them tomorrow though. Whatever the reason is, I will be sure that I find out. If it is sweets being allowed within school

grounds, which is something that is often forbidden, I’ll see to how the principal has allowed it.” I said, and Dr. Jasper nodded. He looked at me for a second, and I watched as he opened then closed his mouth.

“Do you want us to call Mr. Nikolay? Seeing as he hasn’t come, I believe that he wasn’t informed?” He asked, and I looked down at my lap for a second. I have been calling him from Miya’s phone since last night and not one of the calls were answered. I knew that even the driver called him, but nothing.

“I hadn’t had time to call him to come as I forgot my phone at home. And with everything that was going on, I forgot to inform the maids to give him a call.” I said, pretending to have forgotten as I shook my head. “You can give him a call from your side though. I will be very grateful if you do.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be informing him that you are here.” He said, and I nodded in thanks. “Do you want us to tell him the reason? Or would you prefer…?”

“Just tell him that the kids were ill last night. They are well now, but they are going to stay for the day. He can choose to come if he wants.” I said, and he nodded, thankfully, choosing not to ask any questions.

He walked out of the room, leaving me alone with my kids who were asleep. I looked out the window, and for the first time, I was furious as his picture with Ashely played in my head. The fucking secretary and mistress who was laying in her arms, taunting me.

“I give you my fucking word, I will be sure that the two of you pay.” I whispered to myself. “That’s it, I am done playing nice…”
