An Alpha's Charge

Chapter 20

Hide and Seek

“I cannot find him. I do not know what else to do. I know we are going to find him. Garrett has been gone longer than normal something is wrong.” Gabriel says.

“Baby, we will find him soon. We have scouts out looking for him, and we know he is no longer on the island, so he must be elsewhere. Ramiel and I know he had texted us last night that they would shimmer here. Can you feel him?”

“Exactly what island are you talking about?”

“The Violent Reef?”

“Shit, I know he did not go there for Vye. He must have a charge or two, so he went there.”

“Okay, so let us say he has a charge or two and went there to protect them. Would he have made himself noticed right off the bat?”

“If he felt they were in trouble of some sort or a mate, yes, he would, but he would be discrete about it.”

“Let us say that it is both; where would he go if they were in trouble because he skipped out on the plane ticket he has? He was not on that flight home.”

“We can shimmer from place to place if it is an emergency; however, if all is okay, we either drive or fly. He must have shimmered somewhere.”

“Has anybody ever shimmered elsewhere if they are in a hurry? I need to grasp what could have gone wrong. I know; I am just trying to figure out where he could be. I will check with the scouts and see if they have found anything yet.”

“Gabriel, the scouts noticed a cave or a few caves in Montana in the mountains disturbed. We are going there now. Hurry and pack a bag for us.”

They headed to Montana, where the scouts had searched and noticed the disruptive caves. Exploring every cave possible that was disturbed, they came across one occupied recently. The embers were still warm, but they had an offish smell. They entered the cave quietly and heard voices. So, they hunkered down, and Gabriel cloaked them all so no one could see them.

“Isaiah, Brody, and Abram are no longer here; they never were here. I cannot smell them.” Some female said.

“I have a feeling they are here in these mountains. We leave the caves to let us go south and see if they live amongst humans.” Isaiah said.

“What if they are, you cannot kidnap your grandson just because his mother and father are dead. No thanks to you and other vamps from the island.”

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“Wade, Norric, Henry, and Arad? They helped you eliminate that family and their pack so you can get that damn grandson of yours.”

“He is not some damn grandson; he is my heir, and I have rights to him. He never belonged to that alpha. So let me tell you, Aenwyn Jinx never calls him a damn grandson. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes, Isaiah, my love, you have my word.” She says, turning around and contorting her face in disgust.

They left, and the others waited for twenty minutes to uncloak themselves. They did not want them to see who was watching them. Gabriel let it down, walked out to the edge, and looked to see if she could see them any longer. They were long gone looking like ants in the far distance.

“They are gone. Please go through the cave and see where it leads. I can sense them in another cave connected to this one.”

“No wonder they cannot contact us; there is no cell service.”

“Not only that, their batteries will be dead. Is Garrett good at hunting food?”

“Duh, he’s part wolf, so he knows how to hunt. Okay, that was not a convenient answer, sorry. We will find them and get them out of here, okay?”

“I am just worried about him and his charge. I do not feel them in this one.”

“If he cloaked it, would you be able to sense them or see the cloak?”

“Sometimes, it is done right; you should not be able to sense anyone there nor see the cloak. Keep going; use your wolf to see in the dark. We do not want to risk anything looking at us.”

“What do you mean anything?”

“Actual bears or other sleeping animals that are not shifters would not end well for us.”

“Damn it, I do not like this.”

“Hey, your brother did this to himself and charges or charges.”

“Why keep saying it is more than just one charge?”

“Maybe he or she has a family?”

“Ugh, just keep moving.”

They walked along the tunnels, and she kept trying to contact him through her mind. She was calling to him, telling him to uncloak himself. They came upon a cave that felt much different than the others. She stopped and placed her hand on Steven’s arm, giving him a silent nod not to say anything or move.

She walked a little further into the room and looked for a shimmer and could not see it. She sat in the middle of the cave and closed her eyes, letting her senses take over, searching them. She saw him snuggled up to another man, and a child was there; they were cold and trying to keep warm.

She uncloaked the cave and walked over to her brother, leaning down, touching him lightly, and whispering in his ear.

“Garrett, wake up; you are safe; let’s go home.”

He woke up slightly, looking up at the voice then his eyes opened wide. Sitting abruptly, Brody sprinted up, going into fight mode and standing near his nephew.

“What, who...who is this?”

“Love, it is my sister Gabriel and her mate Steven. This is Brody, my mate, and his nephew, Abram, my charges.”

“How long have you guys been here?”

“A couple of days, I think?”

“No, you have been missing for a couple of weeks. Mind telling who Isaiah is and why he is looking for you?”

“He is my nephew’s grandfather, and he wants him permanently. Abram is a triple hybrid, wolf, angel, and vampire. My brother and I have angel capabilities along with our wolves, but his mother is a pure vampire.”

“Grab him and your things; everyone grabs hold of us and hang on; we are going home,” Gabriel said, and with both her and Garrett’s shimmer abilities, they shimmered back to their home.

“Okay, we are here; you three go grab a shower and get some rest in a real bed. I will send Lane over to design a child’s room for you later. Then we can meet Ramiel and let him know what is happening. You can tell him everything.”

Gabriel took off with her fiancé and got a shower and some sleep after Steven texted Ramiel that they had found them, but the trouble was coming. We will talk in a few hours when they are cleaned and rested.

The scouts were told to watch Isaiah and warn them when he started heading their way. Two hours later, everyone woke up and headed to the new office next door to Lane’s office, but the meeting room was upstairs that could hold a hundred people if needed.

They could not believe how gorgeous it was with all the handmade furniture with wood native to Alaska. Fresh flowers adorned everywhere, giving the office and meeting room a fresh smell. The meeting room’s colors were dark, with white trim and naturally stained wood. Ramiel’s office had a dark Mahogany desk with built-in bookcases and filing cabinets.

The walls were painted with medium grey tones, white trim, and black and red accents Ramiels chairs were barrel-type chairs that were black in front of his desk. They were comfortable but needed more to keep visitors for extended periods. He had a dark grey sectional across from him on the right side for more informal gatherings, with a lovely coffee table in the center made like a desk.

He was in the far left back of the office; he wanted to see who was coming and going and not be surprised. Everyone that came in sat in the sectionals as it was an informal meeting. Ramiel met Brody and Abram, and they became pack members of the bear community. Lane was excited to meet new members.

“Tell me what is happening and why you ran from the reef?”

“This is my nephew, a triple hybrid, angel, vampire, and wolf. His grandfather, Isaiah, thinks he has the right to raise him, not me. My late brother and I are hybrids, wolves, and angels, but we are more wolves than angels. Abram drinks tiny amounts of blood but mostly eats food like the rest of us. I know he will have abilities and is starting to show some of them.”

“What do you know about his grandfather?”

“He is power hungry and wants control just like Wade, Norric, Henry, and Arad.”

“Did they come looking for you guys when you left?”

“Yes, they did. Steven and I stumbled into their cave and listened to their conversation. They were looking for them in my brother’s pack and eliminated everyone except a few. That would be the two of you, I presume?” Gabriel asked.

“I will let Axel know there is more to this; these guys will be arrested and go against the council of the werewolves and then eliminated unless they are beforehand. Okay, is there anything else you need from me for now?”

“No, sir, thank you so much for taking us in, even though we are wolves and not bears.”

“We have a little bit of everything here in this pack. I can expect the rest of you to show our new family members here what we do and how we work as a family?”

“Yes, Alpha Ramiel, we will do that.”

They got up and left with Lane showing where people work. She explained everything to Brody and what was expected of his participation in the pack. He had no problem except keeping watch over his nephew.

He had attended architecture school, so working with Lane and the builders would be perfect. She set up an office for him in her space which was big enough for both, and he was happy as he got to pick out the styles of the two desks he would need.
