Chapter 4
Chapter 4
As soon as Augustus entered the house, the first thing he noticed was a distinct smell of blood and he rushed to the hall in long strides to see what it was.
To say he was surprised would be an understatement.
He looked at the blood mess on the ground with wide eyes, feeling a strange feeling bubbling inside his heart.
What was this all about? Why was there so much blood on the floor? His hands trembled at the site before he clenched his fists.
R–right… she had called him.
Does that mean she was telling the truth and scared for real?
A little guilt washed over him when he remembered her words about someone entering the house.
But this couldn’t be because she got attacked, right?
If she had been hurt, she wouldn’t have gotten the energy to go to the council chambers and reject the mate bond.
It means she was fine.
Augustus walked further inside the house, walking to the kitchen to pour himself a glass of water, his heart stung again at the sight of blood even in the kitchen.
There was something that happened inside him, something he never thought he would feel towards Alexis.
It was hard for him to believe he was finally free from the shackles of that damned woman. It was hard to believe because he couldn’t feel as happy as he had thought.
What was this feeling? Was his heart aching for that woman who only knew how to play tricks with him?
After freshening up quickly, Augustus called the maid who lived only a block away and got the house cleaned. Once the house was cleaned, he went to the kitchen and placed the food on his plate.
He took a few bites of the food, feeling something was clogging his throat as if the food didn’t want to go down his throat.
He wasn’t in pain. Nor did his wolf make any kind of comments since she left….
It must be because it was a tiring day and the food didn’t really taste that good. He nodded to himself.
He soon choked on the food as he forced himself to eat
On instinct, he extended his hand towards his right side to hold the glass.
“Can’t you see I am choking? Give me-” Augustus stopped mid–sentence when he gazed at the unusual empty seat that used to be occupied by that woman who had been haunting him for two years.
It was a little hard to look at the empty seat when that woman ensured to sit with him whenever he ate just in case he needed anything. Obviously, all of it was a lie to hide her evil heart, but still
Once again, his heart clenched painfully, and he placed the spoon back on the plate, not in the mood to eat anymore. With a sigh, he opened the TV, his gaze darkening at the news the channels were displaying

Chapter 4
The CEO of Augustine Enterprises is in a loving relationship with his girlfriend, The headlines said, and the photo displayed was of him taking his secretary to the hospital.
What kind of absurd news was this?! And what channel dared to display this in the first place?! Have they lost their
mind?
Anger consumed his head as he threw the remote away.
He immediately pulled out his phone and called his PR team.
“Hello!”
“Have you guys lost your damn minds or do you not want to continue this job anymore? Why is this useless news of me getting married on display? Do I need to send an order every time such a piece of news airs to get it removed?” Augustus asked in a calm voice, but the underlying hint of anger and his alpha aura was more than enough for the manager to jump in his seat
“W–we are sorry, sir, but the notice we received didn’t say it needed to be removed,” The manager quickly said when his subordinates shook their heads at him.
Augustus sat confused for a few seconds, exhaling and inhaling to calm his haywire emotions.
He clearly mentioned to his beta to get all such kinds of useless news removed as soon as they appeared and even sent a warning notice to the news channels. The last thing he needed in his life was to have his grandfather see this and ask him where Alexis was.
Wait… Could it be that the reason behind Alexis’s departure was related to this news?
No. How can that be? Even if they weren’t in a lovable marriage, she knew he didn’t like his secretary in a romantic manner. The only reason he cared for her was because she saved his life. That’s it. There was no more addition to the story.
And the reason he didn’t like his mate, Alexis, was because she was cunning and married him for his money and power. She didn’t love him.
He had heard her say those words himself right before their marriage. She was talking to someone and the smugness and evil contempt while she talked about him as if he was nothing more than a money bank for her was clearly audible, not to mention how she said love didn’t mean anything to her.
That was why he could never bring himself to like her. He knew she was fake inside out.
If his grandfather hadn’t given so much importance to mate–bond marriage, he would’ve never married that woman who broke his concept of having a mate by being so meticulously materialistic.
He massaged his forehead in annoyance and asked the PR team to get the news removed as quickly as possible before dialing Mark’s number.
“Yes, sir,” The subordinate immediately asked, keeping his cutlery down while his mate looked at him with furrowed brows.
“Alexis has left home. I swear I wronged this woman in my past life for her to come and avenge those wrongdoings in this life. I can’t live a moment of peace because of her. How can she leave me without giving me a proper reason at all? I want to know about her whereabouts. Where she could’ve gone, everything,” Augustus said.
“But, sir. We don’t have any information on Mrs, I mean Miss Alexis,” Mark said.
“What do you mean we don’t have any information on her?” Augustus asked, confused.
“Recently, we conducted a survey on your grandfather’s behalf who wanted to know how many people of different packs were working in our company to give a rough estimate to the council head so we could ask for bigger lands for expansion. Naturally, we also did the check up on Miss Alexis, and it found that all the details she provided about
her identity were wrong I mentioned this in a report and sent it to you through the mail,” Mark said, and Augustus felt contemplated.
An email? But he didn’t receive any mail.
And what does he mean by Alexis’s information was wrong? Was she lying about her identity to him for so long? But why would she liet
Meanwhile, at the same time, after hailing the cab from the council and entering the Noman’s land since she wanted to walk for some time, Alexis finally reached our pack she knew would help her and take her in.
The second strongest pack in the world after her ex–husband’s pack. The one pack that people didn’t truffle with easily
The guards, who were patrolling the borders, immediately went alert when they saw someone walking towards them in the night.
“Hey, who’s there?! The guard shouted as they flashed torches at her.
However, one look at her face and everyone almost froze in utter shock.
“It’s Miss Alexis,” The guard whispered in disbelief.
“What did you say?”
“I said it’s Miss Alexis,” The guard raised his voice.
The beta who had come to check up on things, heard his words and immediately rushed to where the guards were standing.
W–was it really her?
Seeing the girl walking towards the pack borders in such a disheveled state, Derek’s heart clenched painfully and he opened the large gates himself before rushing out.
“Alexis,” Derek whispered, still in disbelief that Alexis was here after more than two years.
His eyes brimmed with tears as he looked at her bloodied state.
He knew the reason behind it. How could he not know that it was her birthday today? Does that mean found her woll?
she finally
“You look tired. Can I pick you?” He asked gentlemanly, like a brother he was to her, but before he could bend, Alexis raised her hand for him to stop.
“Please call your alpha, I can’t enter the pack without his permission,” She said courteously and everyone looked at each other, unable to comprehend.
“Alexis, what are you Derek started speaking, but he paused and nodded before informing their alpha.
It didn’t take long for their alpha to make his appearance known to them.
The large black wolf stood in front of the pack borders as he looked at the girl in front of him, her clothes stained in blood.

A growl left his mouth at her sight and everyone flinched at the anger in their alpha’s voice. Everyone immediately bowed their heads in submission, everyone but Alexis, who looked directly into his eyes
“Can I stay here for some time, Alpha?” Alexis asked, and the wolf growled at her again.
She kept looking at him for a few seconds before she sighed and turned around, ready to leave.
Derek widened his eyes at what transpired between the alpha and Alexis and was about to step forward when their alpha changed back into his human form and wore the clothes the guard quickly gave him.
“Does my daughter need permission from me to return to the pack that belongs to her?” The alpha gritted his teeth as he looked at the back of the girl.
“A daughter doesn’t need the permission, but a she–wolf who disobeyed her alpha, definitely needs one.” Alexis whispered, still not turning around to look at her father as tears streamed down her face.
Sensing the sadness in her voice, the alpha didn’t waste a single second and hugged his daughter.
As soon as Alexis felt her father’s hand wrapped around her body, she broke down. All the emotions she had been containing spilled out as she wailed and mourned her loss in the arms of one person she knew would never banish and disown her.
“I am sorry, dad. I am so sorry. Please forgive me. I should’ve listened to you,” she cried, and the guards immediately looked
away as they saw their alpha’s daughter crying pitifully, barely controlling their own emotions that wanted to run to that building and ruin everything that the alpha had for making their princess cry like this.
“That b*stard. How dare he make my daughter cry like this? So what if he is running the strongest pack? Are we any less than him? I will see to “The alpha couldn’t complete his words as Alexis shook her head.
“I don’t want to have any connection with him at all. Nor love, not hatred,” She whispered, and the alpha’s eyes immediately softened.
This was the same girl who used to talk about loving her mate for an eternity just like her mother.
“Ssshh, it’s over, baby. No one will hurt you anymore. You are safe here. You don’t need to go back there ever. The alpha coaxed Alexis, who nodded at him.
“Have you found your wolf?” The alpha asked her and Alexis broke down again.
“I… I lost her, Dad. Because of half transition and all those incidents hindering it, I lost her, Alexis cried, and the Alpha placed her head on his chest as he caressed her hair, feeling the pain of his daughter.
