Chapter 53
I'm not sure how long I slept, but David's body moving as he stands up and proceeds to remove me out of the icy pool wakes me awake. I sigh, and David touches my face, instructing me to get out of the tub. David somehow walks out of the tub, cradling me without stumbling on the bathroom floor. It no longer hurts to open my eyes, and my shivering body keeps me awake.
I'm put on a bed, soaked. David lingers over me for a few seconds before standing up and walking around the bed to the other side.
Turning my head to observe David, I see him take off his soaked pants and half-wet shirt. I'm completely clothed, and he's just half-clothed.
David moves closer and grips my wrist as I reach for the bed's bedding edge. His giant fingers wrapped around my wrist, veins are pressing against his skin, conjuring scorching pictures in my imagination. But my body is too weary of replicating David kissing my moist neck and clutching my exposed breast.
"Let me," David says, letting go of my wrist to pull the blanket back.
My hand reaches the soiled bedding. The bed is considerably smaller than the one we share at the pack home when David joins me, and the comforter is pulled over our bodies.
This bed allows our bodies to contact without us having to move in either direction instinctively.
David smirks as he puts his arms around my waist. Nothing could stand between us. His warm, moist body against my wet body calms me.
"Nap, baby." His hands knead my back-palms, then knuckles.
"I'm sorry," I murmur into his collarbone, his skin warm and pleasant. His hands extended up to my shoulder blades, sending shivers down my spine. "Later. I swear." He concludes. After hours of being held by David, I wake up not being hugged anymore.
The blanket previously slung over my shoulders is now at my waist.
A feather-like feeling tickles my back, moving up between my shoulders, up my neck, and back down.
My body shivers, and I grunt in protest, a grin developing on my face.
I turn my head, but not my body, to find David completely awake, on his side, with his head in his hand and his comforter at his waist.
His arms and abdomen are appropriately flexed, and his rock-solid body makes my palms tingle.
The desire to rub David's chest and arms faded as my mood worsened. David laughs and pushes his massive bulk to be virtually on top of me.
David's weight is like an elephant's chest pressing on my back. Even though I'm shouting at David to get off me, he doesn't move.
"I don't get it, baby!" He shouts and pounds me harder. I huff and flail my body away, and eventually, David laughs and gets off of me. I suppose I can breathe again. "You're a jerk at times." I sigh, frowning and bringing the cover-up to my chest. I can't grin at him.
David also rises from our bed but bends forward and tenderly strokes my cheek.
Only three inches separate us, and his gaze heats my whole body. His gaze makes me feel strong and cared for.
Then I understand that David is the only guy on this planet and in this lifetime who can make me feel like this.
I love him, rip currents in my mind. I was twisting my body and stealing my air. I can't resist the rip current, so I surrender.
My once soft and sweet grin grows bigger till my cheeks ache. David retorts. I shifted forward, uniting our tongues in a sweet and exquisite, scorching kiss.

A hand on my face as David draws back. "For what?" He grins and chuckles.
I open my lips to tell him, but I stop. Doubt seeps in, and I question whether David loves me. Does he get butterflies when I walk in? Does his touch hurt his hands? Does he like my laughter? Stating the three life-altering words, "And in the kitchen? Hunter?"
David's mood is ruined. I lift David's head to gaze at me instead of our tangled limbs and blanket.
"Please, David. I was a mess. I was enraged, feverish, and afraid of dying from a body fire."
He tells me while rubbing my face. "I'm not sure yet. I need to speak to Hunter, but I got the impression you were putting him down via our relationship. Your power can be smelled from the packhouse. It enraged the members." "You-you smelled me?" I inquire, stunned.
Chuckling, David takes his hand from my face, but I keep my fingers hooked to his chin for fear that he'll look away from me.
"It was like sugar, baby."
"But why did I feel different this time?"
"Your dominance over Hunter was unprecedented." When threatened, a wolf will put the other wolf down. You did it. You felt intimidated because he is a Beta, and you are better ranked." "My eyes changed?"

I watch David inhale. "I need to speak to Hunter about that, Susan."
So my brows furrow together, and the dark blonde hairs wrinkle. "I don't get it."
"Susan, when I share emotion with my wolf, my eyes color. Anger, bloodlust, and desire. We wolf." It clicks as he stresses.
"Do you mean I could be like-" I scream, scared of being heard. My hand slowly relaxes.
David grips my cheeks, concern in his blue eyes. "I don't know. Your eyes could've altered since you're a Luna, or..." David fades off without finishing his thought.
He doesn't say he thinks I'm a wolf, and I wonder how that's possible since I'm human.
Will Hunter and David quarrel? Or will they retain their distance and speak like adults?
I see David returning to this cabin.
He was covered in blood, his clothing shredded, and his face blank. I see Hunter in the snow, bleeding.
"Susan," I'm distracted.
Jessica entered.
