Chapter 48
David is perplexed, as I am. I have no idea what my nightmare means.
"Y-you don't think..." I don't dare continue my statement for fear of offending the guy who followed me into the woods and mentally tormented me.
David shook his head angrily.
The memory of that obnoxious odor makes my stomach turn. "Fucking death," I smirk as the aroma crawls back to me.
Josephine or a nurse checks me every several hours. David remains at my side all day. We just speak or slumber. We reminisce about former full moon festivals or childhood recollections, but today's load haunts our dreams. We never mention Hunter. He only came up when I questioned David about Hunter's fate.
Jessica arrived to the clinic as twilight fell, reluctant and concerned for my well-being. When she saw the needlework, Josephine performed for me this morning. She clenched her fists in angrily.
"I don't enjoy seeing my kid injured, particularly by someone I consider a son," she said frankly.
She pulled the clinic table over my waist, thumped the containers on the table, and started peeling open the plastic covers.
David, fast asleep, opens his eyes and looks at the hot supper Jessica cooked.
"Go to the packhouse and fetch your meal, David," Jessica replies, shoving a fork into my waiting hand.
David straightened up and extended his neck, his gaze fixed on his mother's. Their eyes glaze over, and I understand they're linked.
Their eyes normalize after a few seconds, and David sighs defeatedly while Jessica beams triumphantly. "I'll be back," David says softly as he kisses my forehead.
When David leaves my room, I sense a growing emptiness. I search the air for the remaining traces of his lovely aroma to console me now that he's gone.
. The food in front of me seems promising, so I devour it right away.
"Delicious, Jessica."
"I'm delighted you like it."
My tummy is full, and I'm happy.
"Susan," Jessica sighs, "I'm sorry about this morning." She admits, but I'm perplexed.
"Not stopping the battle before you came in. My boys were fighting in front of me, and I did nothing. We must not interfere with an Alpha's war, particularly while he is battling for" "Where were these laws? We must all obey the rules." Jessica answers. Why didn't Jessica, and Neme intervene? They were excellent pack members and followed the rules. "Why didn't anybody let me obtain these laws, so I don't embarrass myself?" I snap, rage pouring through my veins and heating my body.

Jessica looks guilty. "That's why I'm sorry, Susan. My mind went blank as I watched you sprint towards David and Hunter. "Seeing you be clawed like that," Jessica says, her eyes filled with sadness. "It's ok, Jessica, don't take it to heart."
I turn around to find David.
"The doctor says you can go back to the packhouse after eating."
I sneer at David and finish my breakfast. I see my lips twitching in enjoyment. And David's grin.
David and I return to the packhouse.
The house is quiet, so I ask David whether anybody is home. David, with a sly smile, answers, "Nope. Just us, baby." And calling me baby makes me want to straddle his waist and kiss him wild like he does when he stares at me with his blue eyes.
When David wraps his massive arms around my waist and pulls me towards him, I step back. I scream and giggle as I attempt to tear his arms off my waist. But I fail and am shackled by chains of weapons. "David! Relax!"
I snort directly in his face. I won't allow him to stop me from kissing him. I haven't kissed him in days, and the notion of doing so makes my lips tingle.

"Is it an issue?" I flutter my gray eyes up to his blue ones. The warmth of his choppy breath blows over my face as I inch closer to his pink, plump lips. My chest brushes his for a split second before his strong hands grip my hips.
In my imploring gaze, David looks from my eager lips. He then swallows and clenches his fists in agony. So I rush ahead of him, and we lock lips in a blistering kiss that my body can't get away from.
Kissing David was and remained the most excellent sensation I've ever had. Our bodies fit together like jigsaw puzzle pieces with no awkwardness. When I run my hands through his hair, his wolf becomes wild with want.
Our bold hands rubbed and pulled beneath one other's shirts as we made out in the foyer like teens. While kissing David, I softly rub my fingers over his ticklish region, hoping he won't notice. And as David groans from me biting his lip, I tickle him with my hip bone.
When David thrashes away and clutches my hand, I chuckle. Even when David growls and glares at me, I chuckle.
Not moving, I push my breasts against his toned chest.
I'm ready to move in for another kiss when David's eyes glaze over. I lean against him, waiting for his words.
"Something happened at the border. I need to go there."
David rises, which I may have made more wild than usual. I reapply my scarf and boots, but I dread the trip to the border. I'm zipping my winter coat when I see David standing a foot away, clad in his boots, his blue eyes gleaming.
