Alpha's Human Luna

Chapter 44

Her brown hair is freely braided down her back, framing her face. I tried not to sound as I entered the kitchen, but she recognized my aroma.

"Safe travels. Have you been marked?" Jessica asks.

I lowered my head, speechless.

"David should inform you, Susan," Jessica says carefully. But, I wait, "but I doubt he's ready. Know this."

I nod. Yes, but why isn't David ready?

"Marking mates isn't a formality; it occurs spontaneously. Because emotions are strong during sex, most wolves are marked. The mark increases the mating link, allowing you to detect your mate's proximity or danger.." "So why am I not marked now? Shouldn't David have marked me to protect me "

Jessica smiles glumly. "Susan, wolves are constantly eager to mate. I think David is holding back his beast for you."

"David may not believe you're ready."

"You'll have to wait and see." Sigh. I grimace and exit the kitchen.

The notion of being marked fades away as I concentrate on unpacking my stuff.

David steps in, furious. I ask him what's wrong.

"Money things." He sighs, dumps his suitcase, and sits on the bed. David's colossal weight creaks the bed, but it holds. "Not much work, expenses keep rising, and some go hungry at night." I sense remorse and anguish in his voice. My arms wrap around his neck.

"Is it bad?" I hushed.

"Yes, Susan," he exhales.

My heart splits. For David and Jessica, the pack's elders, and the hungry kids. Sad and upsetting because Jessica cooks every meal at the mansion and shares the leftovers with all the members, but it's not enough. The hot water in our bathrooms is a luxury not all pack members enjoy.

David throws his arms around my waist and nuzzles my neck. He rubs my lower back and softly assures me that everything will be OK.

The anguish in my chest, oh, the pain! I take one hand off David and start rubbing my heart with my palm. David looks at my rubbing hand and my pained expression with concern. "Are you OK?"

I nod but keep touching my chest. " Relax." David glares at me, his blue eyes without flinching. His eyes have always pulled me in. So I look back at him, taking long, deep breaths. What's My heart throbs with agony.

"Luna Sense. Mom received it when a woman was in childbirth, a kid was injured, or danger approached. "Yours, Susan." David gently rotates my face, easing my chest ache. "Does your heart hurt? Your pack instinct grew overbearing for you," explains David.

"Yes," I mutter.

"Talking to you relieves my anguish."

With the heart agony gone, I take in the events that occurred: learning the pack is still financially challenged and feeling like I have a heart attack-but it's a Luna Sense. I have a suggestion that might help the pack. But first, we'll need to gather everyone.

"I have an idea,"

David's thick brows raise in surprise, but he appears to like my proposal. "Can we meet Jessica, Neme and Hunter tomorrow morning?

I lean in close and kiss his lip. "Is it OK?" I inquire gently.

David gently takes me from his lap so we can rise. "I have to go inspect, so I'll see you later."

I stomp my feet and snarl at David. David sighs, a knowing grin appearing on his face. My spine tingles. I'm so unhappy I could kiss him right now, but I can't. Right? David approaches, grinning at me. "Then I was going to invite you to join me."

"Sure, I'll go."

I don't wake up usually calm, curled up with David, eager for a decent breakfast and happy for the day. Instead, I wake up weary, clinging to David, hungry for nothing, and terrified.

My racing thoughts kept me up last night, causing David to remain awake and sensing my anxiety.

I sigh hard and turn to David. My lips pouted in annoyance.

"I didn't sleep," I whine. "I'm sorry I kept you up."

David's eyelids flicker open, connecting with mine. No sleep has left tiny rings under their blue eyes. He still looks good while I look like a zombie.

His burning eyes glance over my body, setting my body ablaze with want.

I'm about to clamber around his waist and kiss his lush tongue when I remember I have to concentrate.. Even though my body begs me to. When David doesn't know quite gazing, my thighs tighten. David chuckles and slips his arm around my waist.

"I'm doing nothing, baby." What a liar. David creeps closer, scorching my body as his naked torso caresses my arms and grazes my breasts. Despite my heavy breasts, my pointy glance sharpens. I look down just as David gulps, his Adam's apple bobbing. I lean very close to his neck.

"Late then," I say, getting up from our bed before David can tighten his grip on my waist and keep me in bed all day.

As I rush to the toilet, I hear David snarl my name in frustration. I giggle after the door is shut since I've beaten David at his own game.

I sit in David's office, hungry and groaning. Jessica made breakfast, but I couldn't eat one due to my twisted stomach.

David pulls up a leather chair near me while I settle in his vast, comfy office chair. It's hard to focus on anything except what may happen in the next few minutes,

David reaches for my twiddling hands and offers them a comforting squeeze.

"They're here," he says as his office door is opened.

David lets go of my hands as I free my fingers from their anxious way. David leans back, his face expressionless, yet he looks at me with assurance.

"Come in," I say, clearing my throat in my most official voice. My voice sounds higher than usual, and I mentally grimace.

Hunter, Jessica, Neme. Neme looks me in the eye and grins encouragingly.

I clear my throat as softly as I can.

"I want to solve the pack's financial troubles."

"The first thing I'd want to change is the training hours. Could the hours be altered to place afternoon instead of early morning?"

"The hours are good," Hunter says in a smug tone.
