Chapter 40
His face hardens. "But I like you!" I run away.
A cool, tranquil face returns to David as he quietly nods. But his tone indicates otherwise. "Let's go." David toils. I notice his jaw tightening. He's insane.
"I realized before my Luna Ceremony that the region had no decorations, which is sad.
"I couldn't afford every home light or lantern."
I sigh and open the front door. During our trip to the pack's settlement, the night sky revealed her splendor. It sparkles vividly against the dark sky and the dazzling stars. Snow-covered pine trees stretch for the stars; nocturnal life in the branches and on the ground sleeps or hides from our footsteps.
The only sounds are the snow crunching under our boots. David is silent, which is not surprising. I can't wait to hear the pack's responses in the coming days!
I hope that I will help some pack families and loved ones have a happy, full moon festival.
I smile as we exit the final section of woodland. Boxes of lights and latterns tumble to the snow, and I fall down with them.
I look up and see a still-standing David watching me.
From the link, David is astonished.
And my hands tremble. I didn't consider utilizing the link. Since my Luna Ceremony, I haven't needed to, and I'm worried. David said the connectivity works like a smartphone.
Hello? When I cry out, nobody answers.
David looks at me as though waiting. His beautiful eyes beckon me. My mind wanders. I envision hands moving up my hips, up my sides, and beneath my cleavage.
I think about david's lovely face. I think of how he gently kisses my face, or how his body crushes against mine. While unhappy, I think of his compassionate gestures or how foolish he may be.
I ask the link, expecting for a response.
I'm not sure how he saw what I was thinking, but it felt different.
My cheeks flush, and my body heats. I know I can chat to David through our connection. So, I say, excellent for you. My ears and head are ringing with David's giggle, as if he had just laughed alongside me. Don't put lights on every home, I tell David. David looks at the lights, then at me and says, On the trees?
I nod. I grab the bag of lollipops and the decorations before starting my trek to the various homes.
The homes, packed together, seem to be dying, ready to fall. I feel unhappy and frown. I know it's ugly. But we'll attempt to repair the homes quickly. He must have sensed my link feelings.
I start putting lights and lanterns on shrubs, trees, and window sills for various residences. A home may receive lights or a candy cane crushed into the snow and ice.
No one goes outside or looks at their window. If I'm successful in not having a pack member inquire what's going on, or disappointed that they refused to come outdoors.
My arms will soon be free. I get to the hill before the trees that go to the neutral zone. I am on a bit of hill overlooking the hamlet, smiling at the faint golden glow.
The view is quite stunning. I'm so focused that I don't hear David going up the hill or when he moves to be directly behind me.
Hands lightly brush my waist. Looking behind me, I watch David scan the town before carefully resting his chin on my brow. A sense of success and contentment sweeps over me as I glance back. "I hope they all like it." I babble instead of clicking.
David squeezes my hips and draws me close.
"Especially the kids."
David glances at me for a while.

My arms wrap around his neck, my fingertips sliding down to his black nape hair. The kiss sends tingles down my spine and makes me dizzy.
I drawback, gasping from the kiss, and ignore all the tingles my stimulated body sends to my mind.
"We should stop." I exhale with my arms around his neck.
David's blue eyes growl, and he leans in close to mine. And I wonder what David will do next. What? Fuck me on snow?
He growls, but not angrily.
I've learned this grumble. A growl tells me he's awakened and fighting his wolf. My cheeks get a vivid crimson.
"Let me smell you."
I was speechless. I was expecting a frenzy of snow sex while he said he just wanted to smell me.
"We should go home," I sigh, free my arms from his neck, and back away.
David's eyes brighten, and he nods. David grabs my wrist to stop me from going down the slope. "Was I too direct, Susan? I'm sorry I upset you."
"No, I simply wasn't expecting you to say that, even if it's true," I tell him.
My wrist is freed, and we stroll back home slowly. From the corner of my eye, I notice David looking at me and gently raising his lips into a mocking grin. Asshole.
I'm not too fond of the quiet between us.
David grins and glances back. I'd snarl and sneer like him if I was half wolf. "I wanted to go home."

"Yes, I want to go see my parents with Neme! "
My lips clench. Okay, so David isn't thrilled to visit my family. But he must overcome!
"After everything is finished?"
"Did you miss what I said, David?" I walked up. "Only for the weekend."
"Saturday?" David sighs.
David doesn't always listen, which annoys me. "Yep."
David stops walking, looks at me, then replies, "No."
His strides are longer than mine, so I sprint after him. "What do you mean no! I thought we got rid of it. I want you to meet my family!" I yell.
"Yes, Susan." But David keeps going and doesn't glance back at me. "Your family will notice something unusual about me and inquire."
"My parents, I miss them. And they'll adore you.
David walks. We both sigh and tug him to a halt. "Stop jerking!" I shout, yanking him.
