Chapter Getting to know each other
Roman is sweet and kind and patient but I’m not sure how long that will last. I’m not comfortable with relationships, the only boyfriend I really ever kissed was Sam and we all know how that went. When he leads me to a large bedroom with a king size bed and attached bathroom and closet I can’t help but tense a little. His green eyes meet mine and he smiles. “I’ll sleep on the floor if you want but I really don’t want to leave you.” He tells me. I swallow the lump in my throat and nod. He tugs me inside the room and closes the door. “You can take a shower if you want. All your stuff is already in the closet.”
“Okay.” I whisper. Roman leans in and kisses my forehead like we’ve known each other forever.
“I’m going to be right downstairs making dinner. If you need me just call.” He leaves me alone in the huge room. I gather some clothes and head to the bathroom. Gasping I take in the beautiful room around me. It;s easy to see that Roman has designed the house to be very manly but I don’t mind at all.
I take a long hot shower making sure to scrub all of the dirt off of me. When I’m done I get dressed and dry my hair as well as I can. I walk out of the bathroom and find Roman already in the room lying on the bed with two plates next to him. When he sees me he smiles. “How was your shower?” He asks, sitting up.
“It was nice.” I tell him. “I love your bathroom.”
“Our bathroom princess. Ours.” He corrects. I sit on the bed with him. In silence we eat together. When we’re done he takes our plates down stairs then returns and lays next to me. We stay quiet for a long time before I feel the bed move. Opening my eyes I see Roman standing.
“Where are you going?” I whisper.
“I’m making a bed on the floor.” He tells me. I don’t stop him. We both go quiet again until a question pops into my head.
“What does mating mean?” For a moment I think he’s asleep but finally he answers.
“Well when two werewolves find their other half, or mate as we call them, they have this urge to mark their mate as a way of claiming them and showing everyone that they are taken.” He pauses. “Usually mates have sex while this happends.” Quickly he continues. “The mark allows a bond to form with the mates and that bond allows them to be able to hear each other’s thoughts. It makes them inseparable.”
“My mom doesn’t have a mark though.” I tell him.
“That’s because your father rejected her and her mark went away.” He tells me.
“What does rejection mean?”
“It’s when one mate decides they don’t want the other and so they break the bond. It doesn’t happen very often and when it does it is very painful. A lot die because of it. I’m surprised your mother survived being human and pregnant.” He comments more to himself than me. We go quiet again.
“Why am I in danger?” I whisper knowing he can hear me. He sighs and stands up sitting on the bed next to me.
“Your father was a very powerful Alpha like the rest of your ancestors. But he was mated to your mother who was a human and everyone believed that would bring him down. He would get challenged on a daily basis. Finally it was too much for him and he left your mother when he found out she was pregnant with you because you were his first child and that meant a half blood would be the next Alpha. He was too caught up in his power to realize that the baby growing in your mother, you, had taken full Alpha dominance. By the time you were born your father was already long gone and nowhere to be found.” Roman tells me.
“But why does any of that put me in danger?” I ask again. Roman sighs again.
“He was working with the roughs, wolves who lost their human side, and betrayed them. They found out about you and now they want to kill you as revenge. But don’t worry, I’ll never let anything happen to you.” Roman strokes my cheek. I lean into his touch and love the sparks he gives me.
“Why were you crying yesterday when you got home?” Roman asks suddenly. I tense a little.
“I went to my now ex-boyfriends house.”
“Why is he your ex?”
“I found him cheating on me with a girl I’ve never even seen before.” I tell him. He lets out a thunderous growl and wraps his arms around me.
“I will kill him for hurting you.”
“No, I’m okay now.” I whisper. “I have you.” That last part wasn’t supposed to be spoken.
“You always will.” Roman whispers back. Again we go into a comfortable silence.
“D-do you want to stay with me?” I ask.
“Are you okay with that?” He asks. I nod. Roman doesn’t need to be told twice. In
seconds we’re both lying next to each other, his arm around me holding me close.
