Chapter Finding out
Annie and I ran through the woods at impossible speeds. We nip at each other playfully as we jump over fallen trees. When we finally reach the river and shift back, both panting with heavy breaths. “That was the best run I’ve had in a long time.” Annie laughs as we lie on the ground.
“Yeah it was great.” I agree. Annie rolls on her side to face me.
“So…tell me about last night.” Her eyebrows wiggle up and down.
“What do you want me to tell you about? We had sex and we marked each other.” I tell her but blush slightly.
“We’ll yeah but like was it good? I’ve seen my brother’s dick and it’s pretty big. You being a virgin and all it had to hurt right?” She asks.
“It did hurt a little.” I admit. “But he was very gentle. After we marked each other though ....” Annie hoots while I giggle.
“So have you two talked about pup plans yet?” She asks after a few moments of silence. I look at her confused.
“Why would we? I don’t plan on having any pups until I’m at least twenty.” I tell her.
“Do you not remember what my mom told you?” She asks. I shake my head. “Lexi when a female mates during her heat there’s almost a 100% chance she’ll get pregnant.” My heart stops.
“B-but i’m not ready to be a mom.” I stutter out. “I’m only seventeen!”
“Lexi, please calm down.” Annie begs as I hyperventilate.
“Th-there’s still a chance I won’t be right?” I ask. She gives me a look. Tears pour down my cheeks. “I haven’t even finished highschool!” My body shakes with fear.
“Lexi, you will be an amazing mother no matter what age because you have an amazing person to lead by and an even better best friend who is going to help every step of the way. Oh and Roman too.” She laughs and I can’t help but laugh too.
“Okay. But I don’t want to tell Roman until I’m 100% sure I am. I don’t want to get his hopes up.” I tell her.
“Deal.”
When Annie drops me off at home Roman is waiting on the porch. I smile and run into his arms. “Hi!” I greet. He laughs.
“Hey.” He leads me inside and closes the door.
“What did you do while I was gone?” I ask.
“Worried about you.” He grumbles.
“Why?” He doesn’t say anything for a long time.
“Lexi, do you remember when Maxon came and told you that our conversation didn’t involve you?” He asks. I nod. “Well it does.”
“Okay?” I draw out. “So tell me.” He hesitates. “Roman.”
“There’s been a sighting of your father.” He tells me. I tense a little.
“Where?” I ask.
“Just outside our borders.” He tells me. “That’s why I didn’t want you to be outside without me.” I go quiet.
“What does this mean?” I ask. “Are we going to try to find him?”
“Well we’ve been trying to find him for years and we’ve never even seen him until now. I think he’s looking for you.” Roman pauses. “But with the roughs suddenly going quiet I’m not sure it’s a good idea to go out on a wild goose chance right now. Especially when they want you.”
“But if we found my father then he’d be able to stop them right? I mean he’s supposed to be this great Alpha and all just get him to do it.” I suggest. Roman shakes his head.
“Your father is practically rough himself. He’s not going to be nearly as strong as he used to be.” We both go quiet. Thoughts swirl around in my head. What if this and what of that. I can’t grasp any specific thought because there are too many.
“I think I’m going to go lay down for a little while.” My voice comes out horse.
“Lexi?” Roman calls after me. I hear him walking after me but my feet won’t stop. I fall onto the bed and roll into a ball. “Lexi what’s wrong?” Roman asks.
“There is too much going on right now. I feel like I can’t breathe.” I whisper. Roman crawls on the bed with me and rubs my back.
“What else is going on?” He asks. I shake my head. “Come on Lex, you can tell me anything.” I sigh and roll over to face him.
“I’m too young to be Luna. I haven’t been in this world long enough to fully understand what it takes to be one.” And I think I might be pregnant with your baby because I couldn’t handle my heat. I don’t add that last part.
“Lexi, you will be an amazing Luna. The pack loves you already.” He assures me.
“But I’m so young and I haven’t even finished high school.” Tears threaten to pour but I hold them back. “I think we met too soon.”
“Do you regret it?” Roman asks defensively.
“No! No not at all! But it all feels rushed.” I tell him.
“Lexi, there have been younger Lunas than you.” He comments.
“And they probably felt the same way.” I mutter. “It’s fine. I’m fine. I’m probably just tired.”
“I know this is all still stressful for you but I swear nothing will happen that we can’t handle together.” With that he kisses me on the forehead and lets me sleep.
