Chapter 29

ALEXANDER
My body was burning in the intensity of lust and desire that was putting my body on fire. Vaguely aware of the inexplicable, sticky feeling of extreme heat and wetness of my skin underneath my tux, and I groaned, unable to stop the relentless thumping of my heart against my chest.
Reaching my hands to my neck, I loosened my tie a little, wanting to get rid of the moisture that formed around my chest, back and thighs, after the most amazing dance I just had with my sexy-ass gorgeous mate.
A cocky smile crept its way to my face, thinking of Eleanor. My Eleanor. How that small, perky body of hers reacted exactly the way I wanted it to with my every move.
Shaking my head, I continued to walk to the bartender when someone spoke.
“Here comes the lucky bastard,” I darted my eyes to the source of that voice. Inwardly rolling my eyes as I already had an idea of who it was.
“Elijah,” I narrowed my eyes at him. The only man who had the audacity to call me a fucking bastard, my best friend and second-in-command Elijah. He wore a cocky smirk as he wiggled his eyebrows towards me playfully, and my hand itched to grab his collar and knock that grin out of his annoying face, taunting me.
"So this is where you've all been, huh?” I crossed my arms, staring down, raising a brow at Elijah who had his arms wrapped around two different girls grinding their breasts against his sides, both lovestruck females looking up dreamily at his face in sheer admiration. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Veronyka sitting there, her legs crossed, sulking at the edge of their seat.
"So you've noticed,” Veronyka muttered, rolling her eyes as she faced the far wall. I blinked my eyes at Veronyka who I've forgotten to compliment earlier. She wore a black, silk tube mini dress that made heads turn and jaws drop upon her entrance. Veronyka, my pretend little sister has really grown up.
Whenever we go to parties like this and she would dress up, she'd always come over to me and ask how pretty she looked then. I groaned, suddenly feeling guilty realizing that I haven't been paying as much attention to her now.
Sighing, 1 took a seat right next to her.
“You look nice, did you buy that new dress?” I lightly nudged her arm with my shoulder.
She whipped her head to face me, knitting her brows closely and giving me a weird, angry look. "What?" I asked, leaning back slightly against the chair when I suddenly sensed a new storm brewing beside me.
“Alex, you gave me this as a birthday present, don't you remember?” She said, sounding as if she was in utter disbelief.
"Oh," I laughed nervously, feeling a bead of sweat trickle down my face knowing I had just been exposed. I glanced at Elijah who pretended as if he wasn't eavesdropping in my conversation with Veronyka.
As an Alpha, I've never really had the leisure to shop at the mall, let alone take a walk in my own garden, so I asked Elijah to fetch Veronyka's birthday presents for me instead. He's been the one doing it ever since I became the Alpha. I have the feeling Elijah knows her better than I really do, so I didn't think twice in asking my beta for a small favor.
Vera narrowed her eyes at me, and I quickly made up an excuse and jumped off my seat. Meanwhile, Elijah still has his hand wrapped around one of the thirsty females clinging to his brawny arms, whispering sweet nothings to her ear, while Vera made a disgusted look and glared at them.
I made my way towards the bar counter, spotting a tall, blonde and smooth-shaven man expertly cleaning glasses before setting them to the side. I proceeded to order vodka martinis and was just about to head back to our table with our drinks when I felt a body collide into me. The glasses in my hand shook but luckily didn't spill to the floor. I swiftly put them down on the bar counter as I braced myself to avoid the person from ploughing into the pyramid of glasses set on the table nearby. I acted calm, but the unwanted impact itself forced a furious growl to burst right out of me, and I pinned my eyes to whoever it was that made a grave mistake in crashing into me at this point. "Oh Goddess!" I heard a gasp.
I glimpsed down and saw a pretty blonde-haired female who appeared to have fallen to the floor. I could see from the redness of her face she was already drunk.
“I-I'm terribly sorry, Alpha. How could I have been so careless,” Her fruity voice reached my ears, and I watched as she struggled to pick herself up from the ground.
Her aura was quite strong, and from her scent alone I knew she was either of beta or gamma blood. I sighed, easing forward a step before helping her up to her feet.
“Thank you,” she whispered to my ear, leaning in a little closer, and brushing her breasts against the middle of my chest before toying with my bow tie. I immediately released her the exact moment I knew she was able to stand on her own. But then out of nowhere, she gave me a soft peck on the cheek. I instantly traced backward my steps before squinting at her with my brows furrowed. I formed a frown, unable to figure the reason why she just gave me a kiss I clearly did not want nor expected to receive.
I stared at her probingly, but she just responded to me with a seductive smile. She winked at me before turning on her heel towards the opposite direction, and I gazed at her back, her blonde hair bouncing along her shoulders as her heels tapped noisily on the tiled floor, wondering if she really was drunk or was just out of her mind.
Seeing her disappear from eyesight, I jammed my hand in my pockets before spinning back to pick up the glasses I've left before.
Walking over to our table, I froze mid-way, my body shook at the sight of my own mate smiling and giggling with some male who sat on the opposite side of our seat. I clenched my jaw. My hands itched to fling the two glasses I was holding towards the asshole in front of Eleanor. I pursed my lips into a thin line before swallowing all the raging emotions threatening to consume me, taking small, slow steps approaching the table that was positioned only a few meters apart from me.
“No, you're kidding, right?” Eleanor chuckled.
“Sorry to disappoint you, but no.” The man giggled gazing into Eleanor’s face with two bright, sparkling green eyes.
I landed my foot with a thud just in front of the table because apparently, they hadn't even noticed me approaching them. Oh, right. They were busy having a lovely chat Eleanor is obviously enjoying at the moment.
When they still didn't take their eyes off one another, I cleared my throat purposely. Balling my hands into tight fists before crossing my arms, wanting to exude my dominance throughout the hall and intimidate this asshole taking my place in our private loveseat.
Pursing my lips into a thin line, I stared down at them, narrowing my eyes and creating a sour expression on my face as I pinned the man with eyes that could cut through iron walls.
Only then did Eleanor glance up and our eyes locked.
“Alex, where have you been?”
