Alpha's Cursed Luna

Chapter 28

ELEANOR

Despite the rapid, heavy beating of my heart, I accepted his offer by taking his hand as he led me to the dance floor. He held my hand in his, as if he doesn’t plan on letting go anytime soon.

I saw him glance up at the DJ and his eyes turned bright gold for a brief moment. I furrow my brows wondering why he is linking the DJ now until, the music changed. Although I was unfamiliar with the song, the lively rhythm was undeniably irresistible, doing things to my body I didn't believe were even possible, until now.

I looked up at Alex at the same time he pulled my hand abruptly. My breasts slammed against his broad, rock-hard chest as he guided me in every step.

The next thing I knew, I was dancing. My arms flailing in the air above my head, Alex gripped my waist before twirling my body around and I giggled happily, my heart feeling light and jumpy every time Alex's hand touched a delicate part of my body no one has ever wandered off before. Well, before him. Alexander Wade, the Greek god of an Alpha before me with cerulean blue eyes that can pierce through walls of steel, easily melt a cold iron heart like mine, and turn bones into jelly with one flash of his seductive smile.

We danced, feeling the rhythm of the loud music vibrate beneath our feet. The sweat-stained air enveloped my entire body with intense heat, although the people surrounding us in the dance floor made room for just me and Alex.

Honestly, I couldn't remember the last time I did this. It has been so long since I had been to a party, a party so grand and bold and warm as this. And to think, I had let my status stop me from doing such fun things I needed so bad, made me regret becoming everyone's pushover for the past decade since that fateful day..

I felt Alex suddenly grab my hand and I swung backwards, dipping my ass a few inches from the floor, before whooping my arm around and gripping Alex's wide shoulders. I clenched my eyes when a set of sparkling colors flashed all of a sudden, blinding me momentarily before I felt my hand touch the ground once again. Alex placed his hand on my lower back, lifting me off the ground and pulling me to a heart-burning, breathless halt.

He pulled me so that our faces were a few inches apart, the intoxicating smell of his scent and minty breath sending shivers up my spine.

For a moment, there was silence.

For a moment, I couldn't catch my breath.

And for a moment, we began gasping for air before the crowd surrounding us cheered in excitement for our supposed “mate bond’ that in truth, was nothing more than a fake romantic display they are bound to find out, sooner or later.

I shifted my gaze upward, about to ask him to let go when our eyes locked, gazing into each other's souls deeply, passionately and he leans closer, about to kiss me again like he did the last time before we got to the party.

I licked my lips, my eyes burning in full, passionate desire to let him in. Burn down my walls, burst open my locked doors, and lead him to the depths of my entire being. Yet the overwhelming feeling of guilt dominated my senses, forbidding me to go any further to realize these intense, fervent emotions I feel for him. Telling me not to let him come any closer, lest I wanted him to die in my own hands

It was that thought that made me fear love most of all. Perhaps, I was unworthy. Apparently, my curse was proof of the very latter.

Before Alex's lips could come any closer to mine, I placed a finger to his mouth, hiding my sadness behind a forced smile.

"People could see us,” I turned my face away from his, and I swear I saw a frown fall upon his face when I avoided his kiss. There's a whole crowd still gawking at us from a short distance, making me uncomfortable with each pair of eyes watching my every movement around Alexander.

“Fine, my love” He groaned.

He let me go and I thanked him almost immediately.

The crowd continued on dancing right after another song started playing lively in the background. Alexander took me by the hand, leading me out of the dance floor to an empty loveseat leather furniture nearby. From the corner of my eye, I spotted Barbara laughing and whispering to a tall, expressionless man as she leaned her body towards his.

I rolled my eyes before flopping down to my seat.

"Wait here. I'll get us some drinks,” He looked at me as if asking for permission to walk.

I nodded. Only then did he turn on his heels and headed to the counter where the drinks were stored.

I watched as he walked towards the direction very near to where Barbara stood. Oddly, I felt something in my stomach twist as though I've eaten something disgusting and vile. No matter how I try to contain it, I keep shifting my position on my seat. When I took my eyes off Alex's back for a split second and glanced at him again, he had already disappeared. I circled the entire hall with my eyes, but Alex was apparently nowhere to be found.

Heaving in a deep breath, I dropped my eyes to the floor. The golden gemstone necklace Alex gave me hung on my neck, swaying in front of me and I followed its back-and-forth motion with my eyes. Alexander is taking far too long. I feel like I've been staring at this necklace for hours.

“Is this seat available?”

I shot my head up at the sound of an oddly familiar voice in front of me.

“Ezekiel?” I leaned my back against the chair, staring up at the man I bumped into earlier tonight. He smiled and took the empty seat opposite from mine.
