Chapter 43
Oliver’s POV
The moonless night seems brighter than before, as we all stand outside while a group of guardians is inside the building looking for captives.
The lightning that emitted from the dagger cleanse this place, removing every trace and shadow of evil energies.
Moon dagger was stolen, and I don’t know how it came back to me. But what I know is that it has chosen me.
The relief which I am feeling by having back this dagger is unexplainable. Joseph has stolen it because of how strange it sounds; the moment I have held it, I felt he was the one who had taken it. It felt like the dagger itself was telling me.
My hand instinctually goes to the dagger that is secured around my forearm with the cloth wrap.
The dagger glows lightly when I touch it as if it has come alive. This dagger has its own powers because it is believed that Moon Goddess has carved it with her own light.
Crossing my arms, I watch guardians and Silvercreek pack warriors clearing the place and trying to look for captives if Joseph had any.
The humans were helping him, as he promised them inhuman powers and eternal life. Ambrose wiped off their memories, and now they have been sent back to their homes.
Ambrose led the guardians to this place when he heard the blast, but due to the illusion, he wasn’t able to find this place. But when Ivory and Donovon showed up here with their warriors, they broke the illusion and came to our aid.
It feels unreal how someone who was one of us was the one who was our real enemy. From some of the old guardians, I found out Augustus was a high-ranking guardian back in the day when my parents were guardians.
Deep down, I feel bad for Joseph and his mother because they suffered due to obnoxious guardians’ mating rules. But what they did was unforgivable. They ruined so many lives and hurt so many people trying to fulfill their revenge. Moreover, their revenge had filled them with power greed, blinding them to see the difference between wrong and right.
I wish I could have done something to help them, but they had chosen their fate when they submitted themselves to the evil.
I want to make things better for everyone, and being a Superior, I don’t want to fail my people. Maybe I can start with small steps, and the first thing is to demolish all the mating rules which guardians have practiced for so many years. Because keeping someone away from their mates is a sin and a punishment for any wolf, and I don’t want anyone to suffer.
Everyone in our clan shall experience the joy which I have experienced by finding my mate. No one should be deprived of the happiness that is destined to be theirs.
Looking around, I find Donovon and Ivory standing away from everyone. Donovon has his arms around Ivory as he holds her against his chest, whispering what seems like comforting words to her.
Ivory held Ella and Elena in her arms and did not let them go. She was crazily protective of them, and when someone even tried to come near them, she would growl furiously, ready to tear their heads off.
Ella and Elena enjoyed all the love that their mother was showering on them.
Donovon asked everyone to let them alone as Ivory’s wolf considered everyone a threat, so she went into protective mode.
After Ivory and her wolf were satisfied that both Ella and Elena were okay, then only she calmed down. And let Donovon comfort her as clearly she was struggling.
These powers affect her a lot, making me fear for Ella too.
But then the way Donovon is holding his mate and being her strength, somewhere assures me that being Ella’s mate, I would be the same to her. I will not stop her from fulfilling her responsibility, but I will always be there for her to help her when she falls weak.
Ella walks beside me and slips her hand in mine, looking at me while resting her head against my shoulder.
“Is she okay?” I steal a glance at Ivory and then look back at Ella.
“She will be in a few moments.” She smiles reassuringly, making me wonder this is not the first time she has witnessed something like this.
I pushed someone away just in time when he was about to grab Ella. Growling at him, I move Ella behind my back.
“Don’t you dare try to be anywhere near her.” He steps threateningly towards me.
I have to give it to this guy for his bravery as he glares at me unflinchingly.
“Derik, calm down.” Ella places a comforting hand on the middle of my shoulder blades as she smiles at the guy named Derik.
“The fuck, I will calm down. These guardians are bloody useless. Because of them, you were in danger.” He half-yells in anger, “It seems like they are only good for ruining other people’s life. Have you forgotten what they did with Maya and Luca and that guy who used to live in our pack?”
Rolling her lips inside her mouth, Ella looks at me, trying not to burst out laughing.
This guy is talking about me, and, honestly, I feel overwhelmed. His frustration makes me realize that they have still considered me as part of their pack even after so many years.
Derik lets out a string of curses when his shirt catches fire.
“Elena!” He clenches his teeth looking unbothered by the fire as if this is not the first time he has experienced something like this.
“Hey, Derik, missed me?” Elena approaches with a smile. Her eyes twinkle with mischief as the fire vanishes as if it was never there.
“I wish I could have said yes.” He narrows his eyes at her, pretending to look angry but what I see in them is a relief. “Life was so better without you.”
“Awww... you are just being a jealous dog because I got to do fun things here while you were being an errand boy of the pack.” She smirks arrogantly.
He opens his mouth to reply but closes it as his gaze moves to our side.
Turning around, I find Luna Ivory looking straight at me.
Emotions clog up my throat when the warmth seeps into her eyes which were missing earlier.
Tears line in her eyes, and before I know I am being embraced in a hug that takes me back in time when I was a kid.
“Ollie,” she whispers as I find myself hugging her back, “Oh, Goddess, I can’t believe it is you.”
“I am so sorry for everything you have gone through because of us.” Leaning back, she looks at me with tear-filled eyes, “Every day we have wished, we wouldn’t have let you go.”
Words seem to choke in my throat, so I just hug her back, hoping she can feel how grateful I am to her.
“Donovon.” Looping her arm through mine, she turns to Alpha Donovon, who is looking at us with a small smile, “Look, we have found our Ollie.”
Blinking, I try to keep my eyes dry as tears threaten to fall from my eyes the way she is claiming her right on me as a family.
“So good to see you after so long, Oliver.” Donovon shakes my hand and gives a firm pat on my back. “We have looked for you so long, but now finally you will come back home with us.”
“Will you still be this happy to take him back to the pack, Dad, when you find that he is your beloved daughter Ella’s mate?” Elena raises her eyebrows, looking innocent. Little too innocent.
“Elena!” Ella growls, sounding annoyed by her sister.
“What?” Donovon slowly turns to me as his gaze turns steel, “You both are mates?”
“Yes.” I hold back his gaze confidently, “She is my mate and my Alpha.”
A surprised look passes over Donovon’s face as Derik lets out a whistle.
“Welcome another contender for the Ella’s Beta’s place, Dum dum.” Elena chuckles, wiggling her eyebrows at Derik. She earns a slap on the back of her head from Ivory, which makes her whine about her being an abusive mom.
Ella and I tell them as much as we can about our bond and how we met and found out that we are mates. By the time we finished sharing everything with them, Donovon’s face didn’t have the same harshness.
“There is a lot to discuss, which we will, once we are home.” He looks both at us while nodding his head.
I know there are a lot of things that we need to talk about, and his concerns are justified. But I also know that he is not against us or our bond. He just wants to make things work so that no one would suffer. I will have to prove myself worthy for his daughter, and I will not fail Ella or our bond.
“Welcome to the family, Oliver.“Ivory smiles at me while Donovon nods his head in acknowledging me.
“Hey, guys, do you know he is the Superior of guardians now?” Elena grins at me, causing me to look heavenward with a sigh.
“Elena, can you please stop breaking these news to me in intervals.” Donovon exasperates, “I am already having a hard time wrapping my mind around that my Ella has a mate, and now I found that he is a Superior of the clan which I am not fond of at all.”
“Don’t worry, dad, these people are not so bad.” Elena rests her head against his shoulder, “We can have a lot of fun with them by making their lives miserable. We will get along with them just fine, as they can be our source of entertainment.”
Donovon can’t help but chuckle and presses a kiss on her forehead as she hugs me.
It will be a challenge for me to maintain harmony between my family and my clan, but this doesn't dull the happiness I feel for being with my family.
It is strange that I am looking forward to every moment of the future. From this moment onwards, I know my life will only get better with all of them with me.
