Chapter 3
Ella’s POV
“We have to tighten our security around the border as in the meeting, Elders informed about the unusual disappearance around our neighboring packs. They doubt that somebody is helping rogues. The traces of black magic can also be felt around the areas where werewolves have been disappeared.” Dad narrows his eyes, looking at the west border, “I have called Denise; she said she would be here by tonight."
Denise is our family friend; she and her coven of witches are the ones who are assigned this duty. She helped mom and dad break the spell which was cast on dad, and other than her, mom and dad don’t trust anyone else.
“I will help them in strengthening the wards.” I glance at dad, then back at the border, unlocking my powers to sense the protection which is surrounding the pack.
I can easily create a protective shield that will protect the pack from spells, but mom and dad don’t want me to use much of my powers. They are scared because since I am not mated, using my powers excessively can impact my life, even though they are aware that somewhere their energies help me with the healing. But still, the more power I use, the more affected I will be, and they don’t want to take any risk.
“Since I know you will not listen to me, so I give you the permission to help them.” Dad sighs, knowing me so well, “I will inform Ivory about this, so she can help you to heal.”
Nodding my head, I scan the area memorizing the position of the wards. I will create my shield inside those wards so my protection will remain hidden.
Sitting in dad’s office, I carefully go through all the files, approving the requests submitted by the pack members. At the same time, I set aside the proposals which need dad’s suggestion and his sign.
I will be the next Alpha of the pack once dad steps down from the position.
When dad offered me this position, I only accepted it after discussing it with my sisters. Because being his children, we all have the right to the Alpha position. But both Elena and Thea encouraged me to accept this position because they are not interested in it. Elena wants to become a lead warrior, while Thea is still too young to decide where her interest lies. Although, we know she might lead the pack council because she is observant and intelligent beyond her age.
So I help Dad with handling the pack matters. He assigned me duties that will help me with the transition into this role. However, dad trains all of us to be Alpha because he says that if the time demands, we all can step up to lead.
“Hey, need any help, kiddo?” Uncle Wyatt peeks his head inside the office and smiles at me.
Uncle Wyatt is dad’s cousin, and he is also the gamma of the pack. He is married to Aunt Jenna, who is my favorite.
Aunt Jenna is mom’s best friend and her female beta. Well, that’s what she calls herself.
Aunt Jenna, Gavin, and Luca are bound to Mom with a blood oath. This means the no one holds power over them other than mom. No Alpha’s influence will work on them, neither are they bound to follow their command.
“Thanks, Uncle. I am just finishing up the work.” Lifting my head from the papers, I return his smile.
“Where are Donovon and Cole?” He asks as he enters the office.
“Dad is overlooking Elena’s training, and Uncle Cole has gone to escort the witches to the guest house.” Placing the pen in the pen holder, I gather the files and put them in the drawer.
Uncle Cole is the beta of the pack. He, dad, and Uncle Wyatt are best friends since childhood. It is always fun to be around them. We all are like one big family, and even us children are each other friends.
“I love that kid.” Uncle chuckles while shaking his head, “Whenever Joshua is behaving like a shit, I make him train with Elena. Within minutes, he is put into his place by her. I know she goes slow on him, but even then, she always manages to hand him his ass.”
Joshua is his and Aunt Jenna’s only son. After giving birth to Joshua, Aunt Jenna refused to go through that pain again, and Uncle Wyatt was more than relieved to know he would not have to deal with pregnant Jenna ever again.
Joshua might take over the Gamma position when I become the Alpha if he proves his worth. Joshua might sometimes act overconfident, but he takes his duties really seriously. At the same time, I know Elena will make Derik compete with her for the beta position.
The funny thing is Elena doesn’t want to be a beta, as I have told you earlier. Knowing her, she will only compete for the beta position because she and Derik are both competitive as hell and wants to prove that they are better than each other.
In all honestly, my sister is not a humble person. She never leaves any chance to show anyone who is in charge. Mom says Elena got her attitude from her wolf, Fire.
My sister is annoying in that way, but I love her to death.
Everyone to the border now.
We both receive Dad’s command through the mindlink. And without wasting any time, we quickly leave the office. Uncle Wyatt shifts into his wolf and sprints towards the border. While I use my wolf’s strength to increase my speed as I run in the border’s direction.
However, mid-run, I change the direction and head towards the western side of the border because I remember the wards are the weakest on that side. From dad’s voice, I can tell somebody has tried to cross the border, so it might be possible this is a trap to shift our focus on that side so that they can enter the pack from the western side of the border.
As soon as I reach the border, I immediately felt the presence of intruders just outside the perimeter. Their smell is acidic, almost burning my nose, and I can feel some kind of spell is masking their scent so no one else can detect their presence. That’s why until now, no one can find anything. Whoever is helping them is someone who knows magic.
But where are the border guards? It is strange because none of our borders are unprotected.
I try to mindlink, but my connection with my pack breaks. Soon Dad and everyone will be here because they would have felt the severing of the link.
My body hums with energy when I create protection around the pack.
Now all I have to do is to wait here and keep an eye on them so that we can capture them.
None of the rogues have come out of their hiding, but I can see their shadows around the border.
However, a frown appears on my face when I hear a painful groan and some of the rogues drag a limp body away from the pack. From the smell, I can tell it is some pack member. The metallic hint of blood stirs anger in me because they have undoubtedly hurt a pack member.
My body tingles when I cover my original scent and decide to step outside the border to help the pack member.
It is a reckless decision, but I would never forgive myself if something happens to him when I could have saved him.
I have mentioned that, like every other blessing, even my blessing has limitations. Unfortunately, my protection mostly works against the spells. So I can't directly protect this pack member with my spell from these rogues.
“Who are you, and what are you doing here?” I ask without using my Alpha command because I don’t want to reveal my identity to any of them.
The pack member, whose name I can recall as Steven, looks at me with wide, panicked eyes as he tries to shake his head. I can see he is pleading with his eyes for me to leave.
The protectiveness I feel for my pack member increases realizing he is ready to sacrifice himself to keep me safe.
“Alpha Whitmore has killed our men, and now he is coming in this direction; hurry up, we have to leave before they find us.” One of the rogues informs.
“Take the girl along with him.” The rogue, who seems to look like the leader of this tiny group, nods his head towards Steven while narrowing his eyes at me and then shifts into his scrawny wolf.
There are two ways, either I can kill them all and save myself and Steven, or I can allow them to capture me to find out the motives behind these kidnappings.
Honestly, I am feeling bored because it has been ages since I have done anything fun. I don't even remember when was the last time I got into trouble, so the itch to do something reckless is blinding my rational side.
So just like any good reckless person, I decided to go on a little adventure of my own.
