After Grandma Died I Gave Up Loving Him by Cynthia Young

Chapter 1

chapter 1

chapter 1

A massive earthquake suddenly struck my hometown a thousand kilometers away, and my grandma was trapped beneath the rubble.

I desperately wanted to rush home to save her, but I couldn’t drive, so I had no choice but to beg Sheldon for a ride. However, just half an hour before our planned departure, Sheldon abruptly informed me that he couldn’t make our appointment because he had just received another booking.

It felt like I had been plunged into an icy abyss.

My hometown had no airport.

Air travel is impossible.

If I booked a ticket now, it would take at least two days to get there.

In an almost pleading tone, I asked him, “Sheldon, my grandma is in grave danger. Is there any way you could get out of that booking?”

His response was agonizingly delayed.

After a long wait, I only heard Lindsay’s voice urging,

“Sheldon, come over here and help me tie this strap!

“Coming,

he replied, and the phone was instantly hung up.

It turned out it wasn’t a professional commitment, just a casual rendezvous with his partner.

When I needed him most, he abandoned me to be with Lindsay.

After the call ended, I hurried to the highway, desperately trying to hail a taxi.

But many drivers shook their heads and drove off upon hearing my destination.

“Girl, there’s been an 8.0 magnitude quake in that border town. Who would risk their life for that?”

It was already late at night, and I stood on the road like a zombie, watching vehicles pass by, feeling confused and desperate.

I called Sheldon again, but a cold automated voice answered, “Hello, the number you dialed is turned off.”

I knew it.

Whenever I called for his help and he refused, if I persisted, he would switch off his phone.

When did our relationship become like this?

I finally booked a ticket.

But the journey of over 20 hours, including transfers, took me three days.

Upon returning home, the earthquake had passed, leaving only ruins in the entire border town.

My grandma’s body was mangled beyond recognition by mud and rocks, her original appearance lost forever.

The only thing she still clutched tightly was a photo of the three of us.

That was the first time I had brought Sheldon home to meet her, and she had specially hired a photographer to capture the occasion.

My eyes were dry.

My tears had already been exhausted on the journey.

With our house destroyed, a proper funeral was impossible.

I forced myself to take grandma to a nearby crematorium.

It wasn’t until her ashes were placed in a box and handed to me that Sheldon finally called, asking, “Cynthia, why didn’t you reply to my message?”

I opened my phone to find just one sentence:

“Lindsay and I still need to adjust our makeup test photos, so don’t bother me anymore. I will accompany you back

when I am free.”

The message was sent three days ago.

When I was already on the train.

The screen then displayed Sheldon’s latest post on X.

Probably about those makeup test photos he mentioned.

He held Lindsay in an unmistakably possessive embrace.

The comments below that photo were all gushing over his interaction with Lindsay.

Sheldon is the Screen Legend, and Lindsay is his partner who has worked with him time and time again.

In the eyes of all netizens, they are a match made in heaven, a perfect couple – it’s like they’re already married, just missing the certificate.

Little did anyone realize that the most inconspicuous person around Sheldon was actually his girlfriend. But now, I no longer want to be his assistant or girlfriend anymore.
