Chapter Divorcing 366
Chapter 366 What a Waste
"Cathy, Michael has such poor taste, fancying a woman like that. The Shawn family really has bad luck."
The girl remarked, casting a glance at Chloe.
At that moment, Victoria approached and stood by Chloe's side.
"Cathy, watch your words and apologize to Michael's wife."
"Mom, I'm just telling the truth. Why should I apologize?"
"We're in public. How can you air our private matters like this? Besides, Michael's wife isn't like what you've described. Even though she doesn't have a regular job and relies on Michael, being a housewife is also a skill. Don't belittle her."
Victoria seemed to be defending Chloe.
But her words only belittled Chloe further.
"A housewife? That's laughable. If she were a housewife, she'd have a child by now, not be barren!"
Cathy had barely finished when Chloe slapped her across the face.
The slap was loud, yet it hardly drew any attention to the spacious lawn.
However, those nearby were indeed shocked.
Cathy covered her face and looked at Chloe incredulously. "You're crazy! How could you hit me?"
"You deserve it. A young lady like you, speaking so crudely. Is that something to be proud of? Is this how the Shawn family has raised you all these years? I can't just stand by since your mother's teachings have failed!"
Cathy was both angry and aggrieved. "Chloe, I won't let you off!"
Another slap made Cathy's head spin.
"I am Michael's wife. You talk about family matters carelessly in public and show no respect for others. You've really gone too far!"
Victoria watched, too stunned to react immediately.
It wasn't until Cathy turned to her, sobbing for her to take charge, that she frowned at Chloe.
But Chloe was quicker and said, "Victoria, if her grandfather saw Cathy behaving like this, he'd be furious. She'd be the one to suffer under family discipline later. With more people arriving soon, the Shawn family's reputation would be at stake."
Victoria was taken aback.
She hadn't even spoken yet, and Chloe had everything laid out clearly.
"I'm also doing this for Cathy's good. It's fine if she speaks this way in front of me, but what if it were someone else? They might not spare her today."
Victoria was at a loss for words.
Indeed, it was Cathy who couldn't keep her cool and spoke ill first.
Now Chloe had caught her out.
Her expression soured as she glared at Cathy, who was still crying. "Shut up. How dare you cry!"
Startled by her scolding, Cathy could only swallow her tears.
"Chloe, Cathy was indeed wrong today, but you shouldn't wear fake jewelry to such an important event. Cathy initially meant to remind you kindly."
They shifted the topic back to her necklace.
Chloe didn't bother explaining, simply stating, "You mean this? Michael gave it to me. I don't know if it's real or fake. Maybe you can ask him when he comes back from the restroom?" With a smile, Chloe left Victoria unable to respond.
She hadn't expected the jewelry to actually be a gift from Michael.
She thought, "Such expensive jewelry was given to Chloe!
What a waste."
Meanwhile, Asher pulled Michael aside to a secluded spot.
"Are you really planning to use the restroom here?"
Asher was taken aback. "What are you talking about!"
He was educated enough not to be so uncouth.
"I wanted to ask if Owen is now with Lucy?"
Michael, with his hands in his pockets, replied, "Seems like it."
"Owen even bought that villa in the north of the city for Lucy?"
Michael glanced at him. "You're quite informed."
"Michael, we're friends. We can't just watch one of our own fall into a trap. We need to do something!"
Asher slapped his thigh, determined not to let Lucy ruin Owen.
The Smith family, not as strong as the Shawn family, couldn't withstand Lucy's antics.
"What can we do about matters of the heart? Even if it's like hell, you can't actually do anything for him."
Michael was more indifferent.
He wasn't bothered by this issue at all.
Asher opened his mouth but found himself at a loss for words.
"Never mind. Asking you is pointless. I'll figure something out on my own."
Asher waved him off, and Michael turned to head back.
As he reached the lawn, he saw Wesley, towering at 6.2 feet, standing amid the crowd as if protecting someone. Approaching, Michael saw it was Chloe.
