Chapter Divorcing 328

Chloe was dumbfounded when the police signaled her to stop.

"Ma'am, please cooperate. This gentleman here reported you for drunk driving," the officer said, tapping on her car window and motioning for her to take a breathalyzer test. She looked at Michael standing behind the traffic cop, her face a picture of disbelief.

The display showed her alcohol levels weren't over the limit.

The officer gave her a scrutinizing look and then glanced at Michael.

Chloe rolled up her window and drove off past Michael.

If not for the presence of the police, she would have definitely given Michael the finger!

She thought to herself, "This guy is a complete idiot!"

As Michael watched the Porsche speed past him, he grumbled, "Why did you let them go?"

The officer turned back, saying, "Sir, the driver wasn't drunk. We can't detain people without cause. And making false reports can get you in trouble, you know?"

After a half-hour of reprimands, Michael stormed back to his Rolls-Royce while Asher sat in silence, looking apprehensive.

It was clear they wouldn't catch up now.

"Um... should we just go find Owen?" Asher suggested.

Michael remained silent, his face contorted in frustration.

Owen had been packing up since returning from Shawn Heavy Industries in the morning.

He had long lost interest in developing in this city.

He thought, "If Lucy wasn't here, I wouldn't have stayed either.

Now that I've fallen out with Michael, there's no reason for me to remain."

As Owen packed, he tried calling Lucy, but she didn't answer.

When the doorbell rang, he assumed it was Lucy coming to talk to him.

In Owen's mind, she must have seen him leave the company in anger and had come to calm him down.

His mood lifted as he went to open the door, even planning what to say to Lucy.

To his surprise, standing outside were Michael and a disgruntled Asher.

"What are you doing here?" Owen asked.

Michael, more composed than the other two, said, "After so many years of friendship, it's better to clear up any misunderstandings." Owen couldn't deny the sense in his words.

Even if he was leaving, he needed to explain to them.

"Come in," Owen said, stepping back into the house.

They had never been to Owen's place before, only knowing the address.

Their gatherings were always held elsewhere or at Michael's villa; Owen's house was never in the rotation.

As they entered, they noticed familiar items, like the windmill in the glass cabinet.

Michael squinted; if he remembered correctly, Lucy had made that windmill herself.

Back in college, they would sit on the lawn in the sun, and she had made it for Michael using a notebook.

He put it aside, and it was gone by the time he left.

Michael hadn't thought much of it, but it seemed that it was Owen who had taken it.

Sensing Michael's gaze, Owen awkwardly stood in front of the glass cabinet, blocking his sight.

"Is there something you want to say?"

Sitting down, Michael asked, "Have you decided to leave Shawn Heavy Industries?"

Michael believed Shawn Heavy Industries held significant meaning for Owen.

Owen pressed his lips, still holding items he hadn't put in his suitcase yet.

"After all, Shawn Heavy Industries doesn't really have a place for me," Owen replied.

He didn't want to be a mere shareholder.

"If being a project manager isn't a place, then what is? Owen, don't you feel guilty saying that?”
