Absolute Chaos

Chapter 21.

Amaunet was pacing, Raijen and Lykus hadn’t yet returned, night had fallen several hours ago, she was worried that Shesmu and Am-heh had hurt him and Lykus or even worse, killed them.

There was a small knock on Raijen’s doors, Amaunet quickly hid behind the curtains that divided Raijen’s bedroom from the rest of the cave.

She couldn’t embody the shadows in the room and fade into their blackness with her ‘Rib of Chaos’ broken, so she peeked through the curtains to see who was there.

The cave door opened a crack and a small sweet voice called into his caves.

“Raijen?...um...Amaunet?.” She spied a tall lithe woman quietly slide through the doors and silently closed them behind her.

Scanning her surroundings, the woman whispered into the dull cave, its only light a few small candles shimmering in the corners of the darkness.

“If you are here Amaunet, I was sent by Maia, she has been hurt by Araphel and we fear for Raijen’s safety.” Hearing the woman’s words, she stepped out of the shadows and moved before the tall dark woman

Amaunet was short in comparison to this leggy woman, she could not see her face well in the dark now looking up to her.

“I am Amaunet, what has Araphel done to Maia?, you say Raijen may be in trouble?.”

The tall woman nodded.

“Yes....Maia asked you to come with me. I will take you to my brothers home, Maia is there resting.” Amaunet nodded, snatching Raijen’s fur and wrapping it around her shoulders, then quickly they left Raijen’s cave.

As they walked, the woman whispered,

“My brother, my sister and my friend are searching for Raijen as we speak.”

Realising her rudeness, Amaunet quietly replied.

“Is Maia alright?... I am sorry...I have been so rude...what is your name?.” Amaunet asked the stranger.

“My name is Kaija, I am a friend of Maia and Raijen.” She softly replied.

Both women avoided the path that led to the bottom of the hillside and made their way down one of the lesser used tracks, pausing behind the mud brick buildings in which they used as storage for some of their crops. Amaunet still limped a little from her injuries, but they had healed a lot more quickly than a human would with her Divine blood running throughout her veins.

They stayed low until they reached the vast open grazing plains, here they now walked under the moonlight, the long grass shielding their silhouettes as they moved in silence.

Kaija was taken aback now that the moons dull light shone over them. The Goddess’s pale skin and her flaxen hair was extreme in contrast to Kaija’s sleek dark flesh, knowing she had never seen someone so white before.

The two women swiftly headed across the plains and after several minutes they came to a small mud brick hut.

“This is my brothers home, Maia is inside.” Kaija told her as they approached the small hut.

“Thank you Kaija, you are a good person to help a stranger.”

Tapping lightly on Kaydir’s door, Kaija quickly entered her brothers hut, she was greeted by Kaydir’s dogs, growling quietly in the back of their throats. Maia rushed to the door, wincing loudly as she moved too fast, hushing both hounds as she did. Kaija quickly ushered Amaunet inside and shut the door firmly behind them.
