A vampire's Choice

Chapter 31

The house stood in the middle of the clearing with a few lights softly flickering behind curtains. Woods surrounded the building with a large clearing behind it. From the spot he was standing, Luke had a great advantage. Taking a deep breath, he smelled the other wolves, and their lack of fresh scent meant they were not inside. Balling his fists by his side, he tried to push away the anger at their absence. The need to tear their bodies to pieces was great, but with them gone, he couldn't do it.

A cloud shifted in the sky, allowing the rays of the moon to wash him in the faint light. The pants and shirt he wore are torn and dirty, mud clinging to his hair and body. With his chest rising and dropping hard, Luke turned up to look at the full moon. Initially, he had been a slave to the object, forced to turn, but after years of practice, and murder, he became the boss of his own transformation. Smirking at the sky, Luke looked back to the house, stepping closer. A bright blue shone from a room on the second floor, making him tilt slightly with observation. The devil did not tell him there was a witch present and excitement bubbled within. In all the years he killed and ate creatures, a witch was not one of them. He had seen a few from a distance, felt the power radiating from them, but the opportunity never arose. Saliva dripped from his open mouth, coating the sharp teeth and making them glister in the moonlight.

Minutes later, after he came up with a plan, the window returned to normal, a sign to begin. Letting out a loud howl, hoping the wolves would hear him, Luke sprinted. The wind brushed over him as trees blurred past his vision, only the house in his sight. Reaching the back porch, he slowed into walking. Making his way up the stairs and grabbing the door handle, Luke twisted, and it popped open. Stepping inside, he closed the door behind him, washing away the scent of nature. A new smell engulfed his senses, awakening the beast within. Sniffing the air to locate the direction, Luke moved, ignoring the surroundings. As this is a packhouse, wolves were all around, but he pushed them away, focusing on the stench of the vampire and the glorious, mouthwatering scent of the witch. She must be powerful, for the ones he smelled before were different. Not even in the same league.

Shuffling sounded on the floor above, urging him further. Going up the stairs and twisting around corners, a door loomed before him. A faint light visible from beneath the crack, hushed voices behind. Extending his claws and softly stepping closer, Luke allowed the adrenaline to course through his veins, the need for blood overriding his senses.

Without a second thought, he kicked the door open, making it slam against the wall. Pieces broke off with force, spraying shards of wood over him as he stepped in, crouched low and ready to attack. A deep growl echoed out his chest as he scanned the room lighting fast, zoning in on the two figures in the middle, both looking at him. Moving his weight to his feet, readying to pounce, a blue sphere of power barreled towards him, hitting him in the chest. The force nearly threw him backward, but the witch is not that strong.

Shaking off the last of the power, Luke's gaze clashed with the girl's, her familiar eyes on him. "I am going to rip you to pieces,” spat Luke.

A slight smile appeared on her lips, but he was too distracted by anger to notice. Instead, he jumped, claws aiming for her throat. The devil said not to touch her, but what does he expect? She attached him. While in the air, her blood-filled veins calling him, Luke was inches away from tearing her apart, but the air beneath him shifted to the top as a heavyweight crashed into his back, forcing him to slam into the ground, knocking the air from his lungs.

"Is that how you welcome a partner, you beast?" exclaimed Rebecca.

Luke fought the invisible force but cannot move. Only his head seemed free from the spell, and as he twisted to look at the girl, she bends down to him, her eyes inflamed with a deep navy blue. "Bitch..." he spat.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Rebecca stood up, holding her palm down over his form, pulling blue spirals from him.

The weight eased slightly, and Luke threw his body around, exposing his front to her, watching her as the rage brewed.

"You animals act first and ask questions later.” Rebecca spoke, walking over to Roger and caressing his cheek.

The shock of seeing the wolf here was nerve-wracking but watching Rebecca stop him became even more deadly. If handling a dangerous beast like Luke was that easy, the rest of them did not stand a chance. Her touch drew his attention towards her and her devilish smile. "What do you want?"

The two men watched as Rebecca remained silent and stepping back, lifting her arms out to her side. "I want the world."

White light cast Rebecca in a shadow as it appeared behind her: the power rippling over everyone. Turning around, the sudden light blinded her, making her cover her eyes while waiting for it to dissipate so she can gaze upon him.

"You have done well." A deep voice spoke, the enthralling sound making Rebecca lower her hand to lay eyes upon him.

The power shifted before her, taking the form of a man. The form reached past her height, reaching at least 6.3 feet and accompanied by broad shoulders. As the light slowly faded, Rebecca caught more details from the angel. Dark hair revealed behind the white with light skin. A dark suit clung to his sculpted body, or so she assumed by the way it fitted to him.

Stepping forward to test his progress, Deimos stretched, reveling in the cracks and pops his new body provided. It has been decades since he experienced this sensation, but it was not complete. With the last sacrifice, he can take what he has craved for so long: the world and all that inhabit it.

"My liege.” Dropping to her knee, Rebecca bowed her head to this God. To the one who showed her the way not just a hundred years ago, but also the new body she has acquired.

"Well, it seems like once again you have failed.” Ignoring the woman bowed before him, Deimos stepped past her, focusing on the wolf.

"I had them..." the wolf pleaded, but Deimos lifted a hand, and the wolf fell silent.

"I am tired of your whining. Remember, I told you this was your last chance, and yet you were bested by a woman no less."

"You never said that she was a witch." Luke defended.

A hearty chuckle burst from Deimos, skewing Luke's face in confusion. "She is not a witch." Peeking over his shoulder at Rebecca and nodding, he turned back to Luke as Rebecca fumbled behind him. Finally, next to him, Deimos grabbed her hand, Rebecca shoving down a whine, and lifted her palm. "This is no witch, but what she is, I do not know. The power I sensed from her had been weak a couple of days ago, but it seems you awakened them, vampire."

Turning to acknowledge Roger, Deimos mindlessly dropped Rebecca's hand, striding over to the still frozen man. "It seems like it always comes back to you."

Eyes growing twice the size, Roger felt useless. The woman he loves is gone, and he was stuck in a room with a crazed wolf and what appears to be a God. Not even to mention the ex he killed inhabiting the body of his mate. "Go fuck yourself." The sudden fearless attitude shocked him, but what does he have to lose.

Deimos laughed at the vampire, but suddenly the humor disappeared as he swung out, punching him in the face. Bones cracked as blood spurt from his nose, a dark contrast to his white skin. "You will learn to obey me, just like before."

The metal in his mouth gathered, so he spat it out, smiling at the man to reveal a bloodied mouth. "There is nothing else you can do to me. The only reason to live is gone."

"But I am here, my love," Rebecca whined, and Roger shot to look at her, baring his teeth at her.

"You are not my mate.” He spat, "And you never will."

"Enough." Deimos stepped in, stopping Rebecca. "I came here for one reason, and that is you.” Pointing the finger at Roger, Deimos stepped over Luke to grasp the vampire's nape. "We are leaving." extending a hand to Rebecca, she grabbed on as power surged from within him.

"Wait...” A pleading Luke tried to reach out, but the force was too strong.

The blinding light engulfed them, but before they disappeared, Deimos turned towards Luke, smirking. "I told you not to fail me. Good luck getting out of this."
