A Second Chance With My Billionaire Love

Chapter 3749

But Leonel refused.

“I want to stay here,” he said stubbornly.

“Isn’t your leg hurting? That’s why you should go to bed early and get some rest,” Alexis insisted.

She’d hardly finished the statement when Leonel shot back, “Just because my leg hurts, you think I shouldn’t stay here? Just because my leg hurts, you consider me to be useless, huh?”

He had spoken out of anger, but after the words left his mouth, he immediately regretted saying them.

After all, he had vowed to Korbyn that he would take care of Alexis for the rest of his life.

Yet, barely hours later, he was shouting at her.

“I’m sorry, Alexis,” he quickly apologized.

Alexis had not taken it to mind.

Since they were no longer married, she felt they didn’t need to walk on egg shells around each other or think too much about each other’s feelings when speaking.

“It’s okay,” she assured him smilingly.

“If you want to remain here, then I’ll send the maid to bring you some food.

Leonel nodded in agreement.

He wanted to say something more just to ease the tension further, but before he could speak, Alexis had walked away.

As she went past the fireplace, the flames cast a faint red glow on her face.

Though they were only a few meters apart, Leonel felt there was an insurmountable gap between them since he was seated in a wheelchair.

This made him so frustrated that he clenched his fists in impotent rage.

A moment later, the maid served the food and called out to him softy, “Mr.

Douglas, Mr.

Douglas.

Alexis turned to look at Leonel and saw a gloomy expression on his face.

She wanted to alert him to the fact that he was being called by the maid, but she changed her mind and said nothing.

The next day, the funeral service officially came to an end.

Members of the Fowler family all returned to living their lives as they had done before Korbyn’s death.

Previously, Alexis and Leonel hadn’t seen each other for quite some time.

The little contact they had was because of their children.

Leonel still talked to the children, but only through the landline at home.

Alexis didn’t know what to make of this, whether it was good or bad.

She remembered vividly the time Leonel told her that he had a new girlfriend.

She still couldn’t help but wonder why his eyes looked so gloomy that night.

Alexis had tried her best to figure it out, but she just couldn’t.

Hence, she didn’t want to think about it anymore.

But one fateful day, she ran into Leonel and his girlfriend at a formal business event.

Leonel wasn’t seated on his wheelchair.

Instead, he leaned against the sofa with a glass in hand.

It seemed his gout had improved, or so Alexis thought.
