A New Era

Chapter Chapter Eight

The next morning Joe, Dave, Alec and Linda went out to find Henry's boat so we can get to Big Pine Key. While they were out, the rest of us were packing up some things, water, food, weapons and medical supplies we might need on the way there.

My thoughts had been consumed since we left my house the other day. Everything has now changed after finding out that our parents had kept so many secrets from us. What I didn't understand was why? Why would they keep this from us? And why wouldn't they tell us? My mother, my father, they both knew how I felt about the world, and yet they chose to keep their secrets to themselves.

What shocked me even more, is that even though they had this secret, this whole other life, they still called the cops on us when we ran off to be with the Rebellion. I didn't know how to feel about that. Angry? Confused? Sad? My emotions right now were all over the place, but I knew I shouldn't be so angry with them. All I knew is that they wanted the best for us, they wanted our safety. Once we get to Big Pine Key, hopefully everything will be cleared up.

"You okay?" Kyles voice spoke as I turned to look at him. I was packing some clothes in my duffel bag and I zipped it up.

"Yeah, I'm good. Are you?" I asked as he slipped his hands in his pockets. I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder as I kept my gaze focused on him.

"I'm fine. I guess." He replied with a shrug. I could tell the look on his face that he wasn't. I wrapped an arm around his shoulder and gave him a reassuring smile.

"Think about it this way, our family is more badass than we thought they were." I said and he let out a chuckle.

"Yeah, I didn't think we were."

"Neither did I." I replied with a giggle. He wrapped his arm around me and we both pulled each other into a hug.

"Now come on, let's go save the world." I said and he gave me a nod as we made our way towards the car where Ben, Krista and Noah were waiting.

It didn't take long for us to get to the pier where Henry had his boat. It was pretty remote, and far from the busy part of the capital. You would think there would be security all around here but there really wasn't, thankfully. Hopefully it stays that way.

Dave, Joe, Alec and Linda were all waiting on the dock when Ben parked the car. We all got out grabbing all our bags and everything we had packed for the trip.

"Okay, I'm gonna go hide the car, cover me." Dave said as he approached us. He gave Noah a nod and the two of them went off the opposite direction. The rest of us helped one another pack the boat so we can be on our way as soon as we can.

As soon as Noah and Dave got back, thankfully without being caught, we all got on. Joe untied the boat from the deck and went and took his position at the helm, to steer the boat.

"Just relax you guys, we'll be there in a few hours." He commented. We all finally settled as the boat took off, my gaze shifted towards the dock and watched as it became smaller and smaller in the distance. This was it. We were finally on our way to find out the truth about my family and what they've been hiding all these years. I knew it wasn't going to be anything bad. If it was then we'd all be fucked. The message my parents left for us, we were meant to find it.

My thoughts were interrupted when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Noah and he gave me a smile.

"Doing okay?" He asked as he wrapped his arm around me and held me close. I gave a nod as I rested my head on his shoulder. My gaze shifted across from us where Ben, Krista and Kyle were sitting. The three of them in a full fledged conversation. Kyle was smiling for the first time in these past few days. Seeing him all happy again made me feel a lot better. Being the older sister it was hard to see him so upset, so depressed like that.

Even though our parents are gone, they're still with us in our hearts, no matter where we are or what we do in life.

I felt a hand lightly stroke my hair as I let out a small sigh.

"Sam?" Noah said as I turned my head slightly and looked up at him.

"Yeah?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. I watched as he opened his mouth to speak but quickly closed it, shaking his head slightly.

"Nothing, never mind it sounds ridiculous." He said with a nervous chuckle. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"Well when you're ready to tell me I'm here." I said with a giggle. He smiled and gave me a nod. We finally relaxed once again. Joe mentioned we only had a few hours til we got there so I decided to close my eyes and take a little nap.

I woke up to the sound of seagulls and waves crashing and peoples voices. I rubbed my face with my hands and opened my eyes as I looked around for a bit.

"Sam! We're here!" Kyle called out. I stood up from where I was sitting and stumbled a bit, but I felt a hand on my arm.

"Woah there sea legs."

I looked over to see Noah standing there, a bright smile on his face. He helped me off the boat and onto the dock.

"Well here we are, Big Pine Key." Alec commented. We all stood there as we observed the area.

"Okay, where do we begin?" Ben asked as we all looked around. There wasn't much around us but the dock, boardwalk and a grassy area and up that grassy area was a road. But no one was around at the moment. Joe then motioned for us to follow him.

We walked down the dock that lead us right into the grass area and we followed Joe up the road.

"You have no clue on where we're going , do you?" Krista commented as we proceeded to walk down the road. Joe let out a sigh and stopped in his tracks as he turned to look at me and Kyle.

"Your parents lead you here. Which way do we go?" He asked as he looked between the two of us.

"I have no idea okay? All they gave was a picture of a map of this place and the coordinates. That's it." I said crossing my arms over my chest.

Suddenly a loud truck horn erupted making all of us jump. I quickly turned around to see the large truck approaching.

"Guys move!!" I yelled out as we all jumped back onto the grass area. The truck slowly came to a stop. In the drivers seat there was a very much older man sitting there, he seemed way too old to be driving such a big vehicle.

His window slowly lowered, his gaze piercing down at us. A confused look on his face wondering where the hell we all came from. I'd be confused as well.

"Who are you?" he asked as he eyed each and every one of us. His eyebrows furrowed slightly before he spoke once more.

"Who are you??" He asked more sternly, his tone changed from confused to anger in a matter of seconds.

"We were given the location to this place, hoping you or someone might help us." Joe spoke up for all of us.

"From who? The president?" He scoffed as he shifted slightly and suddenly a rifle was pointed at us.

"No, no, not the president." Joe said as he held his hands up. My eyes flickered over to the rest of the group, hands up as well and shocked mixed with confusion expressions. I mean there was an old guy pointing a gun at us.

"These kids parents..." Joe answered as he pointed to me and Kyle. The old man turned his attention to us and suddenly the expression on his face softened.

"Impossible.." he whispered. Kyle and I exchanged confused looks for a split second before looking back over in his direction.

"Samantha?" He said looking at me and then looked at Kyle, then back at me. I slowly nodded my head.

"W-who are you?" I asked and watched as he turned the engine off. The door opened and he slowly got out of the truck. He hobbled over, a small smile on his face, now standing a foot in front of me. I could see his eyes well up with tears.

"I'm your grandfather.." he answered as he placed a hand on my shoulder. His gaze shifted over to Kyle and did the same with him, looking between the two of us, a proud smile on his face.

My eyes widened as I stared at the man in front of me before turning to Kyle.

Grandfather???
