A Mother's Love

Chapter 55

May was still studying the data on the computer screen when Parker and Angie returned. She had the pointing finger of her left hand moving across the screen from left to right. Occasionally her left hand would stop and she would jot down something on a pad of paper to her right. “I think I’ve got it.” they heard her say as they entered the room. “What have you found?” asked Parker. “I think I’ve broken the code” she replied.

“What are you talking about?” questioned Angie. “The P signifies the page number and the numbers to the right of it are the position of letters on the page. The fist number is 23 and the twenty third letter is the letter T.

The second number which is 37 and it is the letter H. I have deciphered the first seventy five numbers and It reads “The process for reversing the genetically enhanced DNA in a living subject. The zeros in the columns first through me off until I realized they represented the space between words. Then it all fell together. I noticed that the numbers got higher in denomination as I read left to right so I counted over the amount listed and saw the sentence form. “Great, but what does it mean by “Reversing genetically enhanced DNA”?” asked Angie. “The only way to find that answer is to decipher the whole data listed in this file, And that’s going to take some time.” May replied. “Well then.” Parker added in, “Let’s get to it. No better time than the present to do it.”

Using her desk scanner May copied the pages in the diary and printed out a copy. They divided the copy up between the three of them and started into the task with great enthusiasm. They worked late into the night and finally finished about eleven P.M. that night. What they found in the code was way beyond their understanding, but they understand its basic concept. It stated that there was a way to separate the extraterrestrial enhanced DNA strands in the helix so that the living subject would be a normally functioning human being. The Doctor in his notes stated that the chemical solution had no effect on James. He had used him multiple times to test the solution and observed no loss in James’s abilities. Other subjects he used the solution on revered back to a normally functional human. The doctor’s conclusion of the experiment stated that it must be 1A3249 DNA that he used to produce James. The others were all produced using an altered version of the DNA he call 1B3249. The latter had weaker DNA strands that could be mutated back to normal human DNA strands.

May remembered reading in the red dairy that the same DNA 1A3249 was used to create Peter. This meant that he too would be immune to the affect of the chemical solution that the doctor created to reverse the DNA mutation. The Lost Boys all had a chance to live a normal life if they could find someone who could duplicate the chemical solution from the doctor’s notes. To May, Parker and Angie the doctor’s notes where nothing more than symbols and mathematical equation that made no sense to them. What were nucleotide, deoxyribose sugars, phosphate groups, nitrogenous base and what’s with all the A, T, C, and G nonsense shatter through his notes? What they did understand is that it could help the boys lead a normal life, but they needed someone who could understand what the doctor’s notes meant.

“I think this is one for Mister Blue to handle. Maybe he can make heads or tails of it.” Angie said in a frustrated tone. “I think you’re right on that Angie. I suggest we get a good night sleep and contact him in the morning and get his take on all this.” replied Parker. May did not add to anything to the conversation. She had fallen asleep already sitting at the computer desk.
