A Hunter's Blood: The Crimson Contracts

Chapter 7

And the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living being.

That’s what it says in the Bible. Genesis 1:7. That was law. God creating man. Most of us accept that. Even if your God wasn’t personified by a name, it usually was the same event. God created man.

Too bad God’s blessing of free will tainted his grand image in some of his creations’ eyes.

Man never wanted to be created. He felt as if he owed somebody, or something. Some of us were very grateful for that gift. They thanked that entity all of their lives. Some wanted that power. Just so they could say that they could create also. Play God just to prove a point of mightiness. God let them play, however, as close as they thought they got, God wasn’t a part the greatest actor could play. When it comes down to it, they are still just acting.

A few scientists played this dangerous game.

Dyna-Techor was the genetic superpower of the biology industry. It created organic prosthesis for patients who lost limbs. They also corrected crippling defects for the brain. Every disease, even on the genetic level could be fixed. Cure was not the word they used. A disease was a genetic glitch to them. So they fixed it. Most people didn’t care what they called it. As long as it worked, that was enough.

Most people believed that correcting flaws was a godsend. God just wanted to see how far they would go to tempt his wrath.

A team of scientists had decided with the way their technology had advanced, they would do the divine by creating a human. Not just a normal human. A super functioning human. They felt that they could do it. Make a person without any flaws. One that could use all of his brain. Normal humans could only use between three, and six percent of their brain. Only a genius could utilize ten percent. The team knew that a brain eclipsed the planet’s best super computer at ten percent. One hundred percent was unfathomable.

So yes, they tried to fix God’s mistake. Sadly, they didn’t understand that pissing off your maker didn’t score big in your existence.

They worked at an undisclosed facility. A select few that were the best at what they did. They worked tirelessly for months. There wasn’t even any outside stimulus to detract the diligent team. Being sequestered from the distractions of life kept them on task towards reaching their goal of creating their life.

They were very synergistic together. The impossible task became not only possible, but furiously accelerated. An unprecedented time table was accomplished. In one year, four months sixteen days, and eleven hours, man created man. In one of the arrogant, and heinously blasphemous acts man could have displayed, they named their unholy, deity mocking creation Genesis.

Believing they corrected God’s “mistake”, they celebrated. Genesis was a fully grown, adult male. Around twenty five, in age equivalency. Fit in body, and divine in mind. It was time for him to learn.

It was amazing to all who witnessed this learning. If his brain was a sponge, the oceans would be dry. The computers couldn’t input information fast enough. He learned English in twenty six minutes. Once he understood the basic structure of language, his learning ability accelerated. The rest of known communication was learned in three hours, fifteen minutes, and eight seconds. The study was very thorough. Records were hidden, but accurate.

The scientists were glowing with excitement. They had evolved higher than God they thought. Arrogance is a narrow path. You have to have blinders on to walk this path. For people that don’t believe they are perfect, they will waver on this razor thin path, and fall. Believing in your perfection blindly, is what keeps the arrogant on the path without fear of falling, the perfect circle of who they are. Every scientist that worked on this project was their own perfect circle. The only problem with arrogance is those necessary blinders. To walk this perfectly, you can’t see the sucker punch coming from the side. It was coming with full force.

Genesis began to soak up all documented knowledge at an alarming rate. He sat in a sterile room so no form of disease could intrude. That was truly not a threat because he quickly knew how to cure all disease. He learned everything that was known. He completed that in nine days, twelve hours, thirty two minutes, and eighteen seconds. Unexpectedly, his mind craved more. The brain, being unleashed, was almost infinite. Genesis was beginning to create knowledge that was fact. He could self-heal. He could read thoughts to the sub-conscious level. He was perfect. The scientists were ecstatic. That was when God had enough.

Just because an object can do a thing, does not mean it should do that thing. The human brain is a beautiful organic, mystic, and fascinating piece. It was opened exponentially by scientists. One problem. The brain was physically strong enough to hold a limited amount of information. It was designed that way. That was the perfection of it. Releasing abilities a brain wasn’t physically able to handle yet was dangerous. Releasing all inhibitions was terminal. You can’t over clock a brain without burning it out. One of the scientists discovered this during a materials integrity check. A sucker punch can hurt like hell.

The terminal event was called, Cerebral Overclockage. The brain couldn’t handle the monumental enormity of information it so ironically begged for. One of those automatic safeguards was the phrase, “I don’t know.”

The conscious brain always has to have an answer to every question given to it. That is where; “I don’t know.” was the savior to the mind. The answer, no matter how obvious it was, was an answer. The brains’ hunger was satisfied.

Unfortunately, that answer didn’t exist for Genesis. His mind wouldn’t settle for obscurity. The answer had to be more...precise. More absolute. More meticulously defined. Losing that safeguard recklessly propelled him to his finality.

The scientists had a new dilemma. Genesis had a terminal event that was going to occur imminently. He would burnout and die. It couldn’t be cured. It had no history of existence. No one had ever been that divine to be cursed with it. There was no cure, because it wasn’t a disease. At that point, it had to be categorized as just an “eventuality”.

The scientists had to decide to try and continue their research. They couldn’t save Genesis from his eventuality. They deducted that even attempting a rescue would be a waste of time, money, and resources. Their debate was to attempt to make a better, tougher experiment. One with no eventuality.

They finally came to the conclusion that they weren’t intelligent enough to stop the eventuality. They didn’t even know what caused it.

They had to become humble, and admit that their creation was so intelligent, that he was the solution to their problem.

Before his eventuality would take place, the scientists agreed that he should make a better batch of his own kind. It was logical, and they could continue with the project.

They directed Genesis to complete the task.

Genesis knew everything. He learned it all. It was learned quickly. He had no time for anything else. He never developed emotions. They weren’t important to the scientists. Very sad when making their human, they lacked in teaching him the very thing that made him the most human. After analyzing the events that transpired, after realizing that they knew of the terminal eventuality, and understanding that they didn’t care about the life they so painstakingly created, his first emotion was developed, anger.

Anger helped along a few new emotions as well. Betrayal, hatred, and animosity. A few of the more destructive emotions became, unfortunately, used to create his personality.

Due to their arrogance, and careless action to Genesis, they created the smartest human in existence, which bore pure bitter frustration.

Genesis understood that his eventuality was eminent. He knew there was no stopping it. He also knew that they didn’t know. Their lack of effort was the bonding that sealed their fate.

Genesis worked tirelessly on the project. He went without sleep for three days. He found a way to rejuvenate semi-dormant parts of his body while still working with the active organs, and muscles. His brain never fatigued. It kept racing without regard to its finality.

It was finally done. The project to create better versions of his kind was complete. He called the scientists to the lab from their sleep. He knew that they needed sleep. He planned the completion for the time they were most wearily irrational.

When they assembled in the lab, they saw seven perfect bodies in stasis. They stood with closed eyes. The scientists were weary, but they fought it with excitement. They saw six males. One was enormous, standing around thirteen feet tall. One was a woman. They believed that she was created to procreate the species. Yes, they were excited... for a minute.

Genesis began by telling them that he knew about his expiration. He told them that he corrected the problem within the new creations. He gave them the safeguard of inhibitors such as “I don’t know.”

Then he told them their mission. The one he implanted in their minds.

He knew he was an abomination. He was created by selfish man, instead of a selfless God. As technologically advanced we had become, we were still aggressively primitive savages that shouldn’t wield such power. Too savage to be anyone, or things Shepard. Any being that would let their creation die without trying to fight for its survival, wasn’t ready for the responsibility. It was logical that this project had to stop immediately.

As he began to lose himself to his eventuality, he told them that the new were created to destroy the facility, and kill every scientist, government official, and anyone who green lighted the project. He, at least, let them know why they were going to die.

As horrific as it should have been for them to see their creation close his eyes to let death take him, it was more horrific after their creations’ creations open their eyes. It was quick and efficient. It was completed before they had a chance to discuss the morality of murder. They were created for two things. Destroy the responsible parties, and survive.

They completed the first task. It was easy. Sensus was desperately trying to complete the second task.

Survive.
