Chapter 26

Darkness, soothing, darkness...

Sometimes he heard voices, unfamiliar voices, voices that sounded like he was underwater... He always fell back asleep trying to understand what they were saying...

He knew he wasn’t dead, but his mind drifted of everytime he wanted to focus on his surrounding...

Darkness, soothing darkness... It felt so good, on the one hand he wanted to keep flooting in this soothing darkness, on the other hand he needed to reach... someone... who...?

What happened, were was he, he needed to find...? Her!...

A woman..., blood all over her body... A pretty little human woman... IRIS! There was blood all over her body!

IRIS...! Were are you? Iris?!

There... he heard that strange voice again... Somehow the voice was calming...

IRIS! There..., There it was! Her voice!

“Why isn’t he waking up, Valk? Why isn’t he responding? His body has healed..., I don’t get it...”

"His body is severly traumatised... Look, the computer shows brainfunctions... So my guess is, that he can hear us, but is locked in..."

A couple of days ago Valk en Kenzi moved their ship closer to Kyr’nacs settlement, this way they could use the computers on both ships simultaniously.

The other reason was the two women. With both of them essentially forcibly drawn into a strange new world, the women immediately drew closer to each other. They found great support in each other, Kenzi because of her pregnancy and Iris because of her fear for Kyr’nac’s well-being.

Kenzi nearly bit his head off when he refused to move the ship. He had to sleep on the chair for two nights and was ignored for two days, but the worst thing about it all was that as soon as he tried to touch her, she knocked his hand away.

Even though he was a big guy, he lost it to his small, stubborn, persistent and beautiful pregnant mate.

Valk looked at her and grinned, his mandibles moved softly to the rhythm of his laugh. She had managed to get Orgrim to make some sort of hand basket, hammock, ham-whatever for the pups.

The thought of losing her, to not be able to hear her voice anymore send shivers down his spine.

All of a sudden Valk remeberd seeing audio componants back at Kyr’nacs hide out, ...maybe he could...

"Wait here, I’ll be right back."

Quickly he walked over to Kyr’nacs workshop, and rumaged through a pile of electronical equipment.

It took him an hour, but when he was done, he rushed back into the ship and pushed aside a stunned Iris, slid his arms into the pod his half-brother was in, and attached a small waterproof device to the side of his head, near his ear canal.

"If I’m right he’ll be able to hear your voice clearly... Talk to him..., maybe it will help to bring him back..."

Valk got up and turned around, his back facing Iris.

“Valk?” He turned back.

To his surprise two arms were wrapped around his waist and he felt some wetness slide down his waist, Oohh, Pauk... tears, human women and their tears.

“Thank you...”

Gently he pried her arm from his waist and nodded uncomfortably at her.

"Yes, yes, it’s okay, go talk to him..."

He turned quickly and in the corner of his eye he saw Kenzi looking at them with a big grin on her face.

He opened his jaws in annoyance, he didn’t like to be hugged... well, only Kenzi, she could always cuddle him.

After Valk was gone, Iris sat down on the stool again and placed her hand on the top of the pod.

“Hey big guy, if everything works as it should, you can hear me...

I don’t know if you remember..., I hope so..., but you saved my life on the spaceship... So much has happened since you passed out, I don’t know where to start.

Well, you, me and Orgrim escaped after Liu’an and his men captured and shot us... You were badly injured, but the Yautja who helped us escape and seriously injured himself gave his spaceship to us. The funny thing was that he already programmed a route on his computer, and you’ll never guess where we ended up... your planet, weird huh...

Well, it gets even weirder when it turns out that someone was already walking around here..., your brother...

Yes, that’s right, we met your brother, and his partner, Kenzi...

He’s also the one who can heal your wounds, and a few minutes ago he made a little device that lets you hear me... at least I hope so.

His name is Valk, and it turns out you’ve met him before, on the space station... You saved his mate so she didn’t end up in the hands of Liu’an’s men...”

“Here you go, I made us coffee.” Kenzi handed her a cup of hot coffee.

“Where did you get this? It seems like years ago that I had such a great cup of coffee...” Iris closed her eyes as she sipped the hot, dark liquid.

“The space station... Valk brought enough for a year... OWWW!”

Her eyes widened in surprise. “They kicked! The babies kicked me for the first time!”

Both women were so distracted by the kicking of the babies in Kenzi’s stomach that they didn’t notice that there was also movement in the med pod.

There it was again, her voice... But now her voice sounded chrystal clear... How was this possible..

Babies... Who is talking about babies?

I have to get out of here! Why won’t my body move!? I have to wake up!...

The computer recognized Kyr’nac’s brainwaves when he tried to regain consciousness, triggering an alarm, shocking both women.

Valk hurried inside when he heard the alarm go off.

"Try not to panic, you’re in a med pod...Open your eyes Kyr’nac..."

Although the voice didn’t seem familiar, it sounded inviting and not threatening.

It took a moment for his eyes to open and at first his vision was very blurry, but after a few minutes it cleared up and he could make out a face.

A small face, surrounded by tousled blond hair and large light eyes looked at him anxiously, when his gaze met hers a big smile appeared on her face... ”Iris..."

The oxygen mask made his voice almost inaudible, but apparently it was enough for the tears began to flow down her cheeks and even thous it hardly seemed possible, her smile widened even more.

Over the next few days, Kyr’nac was able to leave the pod and recuperate in his own bed. But it wasn’t until the fourth day that the fog in his head had cleared up completely.

“Hey! You’re up! And you’re nude... Sorry!” Quickly Iris turned on her axes, the blush on her cheeks deepened when she heard his laughter.

"Turn around Iris, it’s not like you’ve never seen me naked..." Though he couldn’t see her face, as she stood with her back to him, the fiery redness that colored her ears was more than enough for him.

When she didn’t, he walked over to her, got on one knee, and turned her around so their faces were level. Her face glowed bright red and her eyes two sparkling diamonds.

"I heard you, you know..., I don’t remember what you said, but I heard you... You are the reason I wanted to come back." With both hands firmly on her hips, Kyr’nac pulled her closer until her body was pressed against his and their faces almost touched.

Iris took hold of his large face with both hands and stroked his cheeks and lower jaw with her thumbs.

“You scared the hell out of me, you know that? I thought you wouldn’t keep your promise to me by dying...”

Kyr’nac tilted his head a little. ”What a promise would I not keep?" Again Iris changed color.

“The promise to be there for me, not to leave me alone...”

He grinned causing his mandible to spread wide. ”I did make that promise, didn’t I. How can I make it up to you?"

His hands wandered over her hips, toward her buttocks.

"Good to see you awake." A dark voice came from the doorway and Valk entered the room without waiting for an answer.

When Kyr’nac rose from his kneeling position, he forgot he was naked, and Iris literally got the full load of his glorious nakedness shoved in her face.

“Gentlemen, if you don’t mind...” and as fast as her legs could carry her, she quickly ran out of the room past Falcon.

"You shouldn’t shove your junk in a woman’s face right away, they usually don’t appreciate it..." Valk couldn’t suppress a grin.

Now that they were so close to each other, the resemblance was clear to both. Not only in length, but also the eyes, the shape of their skulls, and their build were identical.

Kyr’nac grinned back. ”I haven’t heard any complaints from her yet."

Then he got serious again. ”I need to know everything, that’s been going on..."

Valk nodded and turned around. ”Get dressed and come to the control room and I’ll tell you everything I know."
