Chapter Day 5 - Thursday
Day 5 ~ Thursday - 3 days until rejection finalizes ~
Willow
There was a whining outside her door, groaning she turned to look at the clock. 1 am? What the hell? This was the fifth time he had come to her door since the moon had risen. She had tried to ignore it, he would whine for thirty minutes then leave, only to come back again. He was a persistent annoying alpha that’s for sure. The whining grew louder make it stop she pushed the pillow on top of her head attempting to force herself back to sleep. He started to scratch the door and she plotted to kill him, on the rug, of course, it’s easier to clean up.
Willow slipped from the covers and opened the door. Sure enough, he stood there in wolf form staring at her with a hopeful expression. Right, rejection week, he’s not even in control. Yet she found herself wanting to strangle him. It was way too early for this. Sighing she eyed him, “If I let you in will you let me sleep?” he nudged her leg with his head. A silent agreement Willow hoped. She rubbed her eyes and turned back to her bed ready to collapse once more.
Leaving the door open for him, he made a beeline for her bed and laid down on it. Willow was grateful that he wasn’t in human form, after all, how would that even work? but how was she supposed to sleep with a giant wolf taking up half the bed? An idea came to her and if she wasn’t extremely tired she wouldn’t even consider it. But the next thing she knew her body transformed into a wolf. It was painful, she didn’t remember it being this painful. Whimpering she got on the bed and curled up into a ball. Moments later as she drifted off into a light sleep she felt a shift in the bed as a second layer was added to the omega ball.
If anyone were to walk inside, they’d see a very large wolf curled around a small ball of fur.
~ Later that day
“What are you doing?” Willow turned to look at Drayn from her newly acquired position. Her body was balancing on the counter as she was reaching for a pan. Which was on the 3rd shelf for some reason, really, who put things on the third shelf. Everyone knows you put the things you buy that you never eat on the third shelf, not the cookware!
His eyes narrowed at her “Get down.” Willow frowned. “I’m just grabbing a pan I’ll be fine.” Willow reached up ignoring the growls that came with her decision. Her hand wrapped around the handle of a pan and pulled. Only to have a mountain of containers fall on top of her. She yelped and flailed as her body tipped right into a rather angry wolfs arms. “I told you to get down.” He snapped at her, but he didn’t let her go. Willow felt flushed as he held onto her something warm and dangerous crawling its way into her heart.
“Why would you put containers on top of the pans?” Drayn huffed and helped her to her feet. Willow attempted to ignore the twinged of disappointment when his arms released her. Why was the bond still affecting her? This wasn’t fair. It’s not the bond came a whisper. She shrugged it off Then proceeded to pick up the fallen containers. “Because we ran out of room in the cabinets and besides we normally don’t use those we just use the ones in the bottom cabinets.” Willow gaped as he opened a bottom door to reveal another set of pans. She placed the pan on the counter, staring at him in disbelief. He looked like he was silently laughing. “You, you could’ve warned me.” “I tried.” he shrugged carelessly. No, he did not, he purposely let her grab the pan knowing what would happen. She felt her cheeks warm at the thought of him purposely wanting to have her fall so he could catch her.
Willow sighed her craving for caffeine fueling her need to leave the house. What had she been thinking of agreeing to this? Her mind replayed last night, cuddling up to him. And waking up this morning in the same position made her cheeks flame up. Why was she so giddy this morning? Why did the thought of being near him make her feel this way? It had been three years, she hadn’t ever been this weird around him.
Maybe she needed to be around other people again, she was probably just lacking wolf contact, after all, they were pack creatures and what is he doing?! During her inner monologue Drayn had moved closer to her his chest pressed into her back forcing her front against the counter edge as his mouth lightly touched her ear “Excuse me.” His voice had dropped to a low whisper and the warmth from his words caused a shiver to go down her spine. His arm reached up and grabbed a cup from the shelves above her. She swallowed the lump forming in her throat.
His scent engulfed her senses as he took longer than necessary to retrieve the item. Was he taunting her? That had to be it, he was toying with her. It had to be the mate bond, forcing him to do crazy things and her to act like a little school girl on her first crush. That had to be it. That had to be. Goddammit, she was an adult! Wasn’t she supposed to be mature and well put together now?
He finally moved away, Willow missed the cocky smile he gave off as he knew exactly the effect of what he just did would do to her. She found her hands gripping the counter to stop the shaking that suddenly appeared. Why was this happening?
Thirty minutes later she found herself sitting across from him trying her best not to make eye contact. Those blue eyes seemed to hold her captive whenever she looked up. It set her on edge. Her fork moved the pieces of egg around, she didn’t even like eggs. Why did she say yes to them? He set his fork down and leaned back with a sigh. “This isn’t getting us anywhere.” Willow blinked at him. “What?” He cleared his throat “You’ll be staying here until Sunday morning, we might as well not do it in awkward silence.”
Willow shrugged it made no difference to her, she was used to being by herself and not making conversation. “What do you suggest?” A glimmer of something appeared within his eyes. Excitement maybe? “Bowling.” Willow coughed on the water she managed to swallow. “Bowling? Isn’t that a bit, childish?” A frown appeared on his face “Who said we can’t be childish?” Willow narrowed her eyes. “You’re the Alpha? Aren’t you supposed to be not childish?” He shrugged “Humans our age go bowling all the time.”
She didn’t know why but the prospect of him taking her somewhere made her nervous. She felt herself try and dodge it despite the urging to say yes from the part of her that wanted him. “Don’t you have important duties to handle?” He smiled and leaned forward, the table seemingly smaller then it was five minutes ago. “I am handling them.”
Her heart skipped a beat, his eyes remained trained on her.
She was going to regret this.
~
Four hours later and Willow had not stopped laughing.
Her body was vibrating as she attempted to calm herself. “It’s not that funny.” Drayn snapped from beside her, his hand gripping the wheel as they drove away, headed to get some real food as he had put it. But she knew he just wanted to leave as soon as possible after the incident. Willow managed to calm herself down, only to glance at him, snort, and start up again. Drayn growled something under his breath as he drove, while Willow continued her mini-episode of never-ending laughter.
Only thirty minutes ago they were in the bowling alley he had chosen, Willow was in the lead. She had won three of their four games and Drayn was desperate to show off, or at least prove that he could bowl properly. He had stormed over to the ball area and demanded the heaviest ball they had. Not like it mattered all of them would feel light in his hands Willow had watched him as he pouted throughout their games, each time he would throw the ball either too hard, or off-center missing the pins completely. It only furthered his tantrum. For a great big Alpha, he sure was acting like a great big 5-year-old with a bank account.
Drayn walked back over to her the newly acquired ball in his hand and leaving a terrified bowling alley attendant behind. He lined himself up, raised the ball.. and dropped it. She giggled as he stared at the ball with murder in his eyes. Snatching it up, he turned around and began to move forward. Willow frowned and tilted her head. “Uh, Drayn, you aren’t supposed to-” he threw the ball like it was a baseball. It hurtled towards the unsuspecting pins and smashed its way through them. But it didn’t stop, the ball kept going, it sped through the wall behind the pins and was lost now in the area behind the bowling alley.
Willow watched as everyone in the bowling alley stopped and stared at them, the manager was now gaping at the hole left in his alley. He muttered something about not being paid enough and threw his name tag off storming out of the hall. Willow bit her lip trying to stop the smile from appearing on her face but it was so hard. Standing from her seat she placed a hand on his shoulder. “Uh, Drayn, As impressive as that was. That was the wrong lane.” His head snapped towards her and she motioned next to them were a family with two little kids stood. The smallest looked in awe at him, before turning to her dad and saying “I wanna do that!” Proceeding to try and throw the ball as Drayn did.
Willow couldn’t hold it anymore, the look of horror on the little girl’s dad’s face was the last straw as Willow dissolved into a laughing fit.
They sat in a sushi restaurant, she had finally managed to calm down, settling for only a small snort every now and again. “Do you think I could get the videotape of that?” He shot her a look that promised death if she ever tried. “No.” She definitely would. Even if she had to hide it from him until the right moment. “On the bright side, you have a fan now.” He grimaced as she continued. “Pretty sure she’ll think you’re a superhero now, do you want a secret hideout?” He grunted his mood sour from today. “Didn’t you say we were supposed to be mature?” He snapped at her.
He would never admit it, but it was nice to hear her laugh even at his expense. To see her eyes light up at something was like watching the colors of the sky as the sun rose. Indescribable. As much as he regrets losing his temper and causing a heavy amount of damage to a building. Drayn wouldn’t replace the memories with anything else. He watched as she shrugged but the laugher behind her eyes revealed that she was still thinking about it.
Willow nibbled on her sushi her eyes flickered up at him. The regret of staying at the house was fading slowly, it was as if he had a way of making her forget. That’s when the reminder hit her full force, she was leaving. On Monday. The mate bond would be over, Drayn would choose a suitable Luna she would be gone and labeled a lone wolf and all of this would be.. over. It doesn’t have to be whispered the voice. But it does, she argued back. How could she forget the pain she went through? How could she be soothed by a day worth of fun?
Drayn frowned sensing her changed of mood he took her hand and squeezed it. “Are you okay?” Whatever she was thinking must not have been pleasant. Her eyes seemed to begin to water and she blinked a couple of times before clearing her throat. “Yeah, I’m good.” She continued to eat her sushi obviously trying to avoid what subject she was thinking about. Drayn watched her carefully, trying to get her to look up to admit what was bothering her. Her eyes remained on the food. Sighing he withdrew his hand, he wouldn’t give up. On this. On her. Not yet.
