Chapter DON'T WE ALL LOVE A REUNION
Bella:
I swallowed hard at her words.
"What do you mean?" I asked, and she inhaled deeply, keeping her gaze on me.
"You plan to release Radolf Clawmark, which is a wise decision, and you need about fifty hybrids," she began, and I nodded. "But you are going about it the wrong way. I knew when you got yourself into trouble, and I watched you, too. I wanted you guys to come to me, but you didn't, and I cannot interrupt the balance of the universe by just interfering. To be honest, I commend your bravery, but bravery without results is useless. You wasted so much time uncovering how to release Radolf."
Her words sank in, and I began to feel small once more. The thought that I had already lost this battle even before it started began to settle in my chest.
"I am not telling you this to discourage you, Bella. You are a very courageous girl, and I think that was why the Moon Goddess chose you. A girl your age who has withstood a lot of emotional turmoil is not normal. Just try to act faster sometimes," she said, and I let out a heavy sigh.
"Then tell me what I must do, Halle. Since I do not have enough time. I only have about five wolves I have assembled, and we need to make them fifty soon so the ritual to turn them into hybrids can begin. They are adult wolves, and biting them will probably not turn them." My words were more of a plea, as I was tired of running in circles.
"My job is only to guide you, so I will help you with that."
"Thank you," I muttered at once. Then she spoke to me about my next line of action.
"Five of you only need ten people, and it would be easier for Hazel and your friends. Their faces aren't plastered across the country. They can round them up in a day or two. That way, you do the work faster, and you can get your hybrids before Enzo gets four hundred werewolves. You need to move fast too," she said, and I nodded.
Before I could thank her, I felt a cool breeze sweep by, causing bumps to sprout on my skin, and with that, she was gone like she never existed. I stood there, inhaling deeply, then I walked back to the lady lying unconscious. I put a call across to Hazel at once, then I put the phone to the lady's ear. As soon as Hazel spoke, she got to her feet, and Hazel appeared on the street. The lady walked into the portal, and I followed Hazel.
"I need to speak with you," I said to her, and she stopped. "Let's go. I will follow you to the hideout. I met with Halle, and she said some things to me."
Hazel nodded, and we walked in, making it to the cave she was hiding in. There, I saw the triplets seated on the bare stone ground. They had set up a camp perfectly, and somehow they were surviving as though they were rogue warriors.
"Bella," Finn called out the moment he saw me. The others looked back, and I raised my hand slightly to wave at them.
They all got up, making their way towards me, and before I could speak, I was attacked with a hug. I remained like that for a while, trying to fight back my tears, but it was all too much. I missed my mates, and I missed all the good times we had together without having to worry about some stupid war. It made me so emotional, and in no time, it turned into full-blown tears.
"We are sorry for not trusting you. It was all so sudden, and we hated the fact that you were not carrying us along," Kai said, and I grabbed hard onto both his body and Finn's while my head remained on Ryder.
Ryder slid his hand behind my neck, patting me slightly. I could hear his heart beating really fast, and the thoughts of what happened between us clouded my mind, making me wish I could maybe go back in time and take it back. But the deed had been done.
Shortly, I pulled away, looking them in the eyes. I threw my hands around Finn, pressing my lips to his. The kiss was brief, but he hugged me tightly. When we pulled away, I went to Kai before settling with Ryder.
His eyes looked heavy, and before he could speak, I threw my hands around him. He let out a heavy sigh.
"I am really sorry, Bella. I was an asshole, and I didn't know what you were going through. Putting your life on the line like that scared me, but I guess I am just a coward, and you are the bravest person I have met in my entire life," he said, and I remained on his chest, wrapping my arms tightly around him.
"I love you so much, and I swear I didn't mean any of those things. Losing you scared me so much, and..." before he could finish, I silenced him with a kiss.
We remained like that for a while before I pulled away.
"Don't we all love a reunion?" I heard Riley's voice from behind, and I turned around at once, rushing up to him and throwing my arms around him.
I couldn't believe he was truly here, and it felt surreal. The entire squad was complete, but we were not going on some vacation. We were here to try to save each other's lives one way or the other.
"God, I missed you guys so much," he said as I pulled away.
"We missed you too," I said, and then Hazel cleared her throat.
"I am glad we are all catching up, but I think we need to face the actual business that brought us here, or we might turn into Enzo's chow." A brief chuckle escaped our lips to lighten the mood, but deep down we knew it wasn't much of a joke, and that it could really happen.
"So, I met with Halle." I cut through the air of laughter, keeping a straight face. "She asked that we all stick together to gather the werewolves. As you can see, I stole five, and that isn't going to get me anywhere. I really hope they do not notice the wolves are missing because I would be dead," I said, glancing between my mates to catch the expression on their faces.
"She suggested we spread out and get them. That is ten each, but since we are six, it makes it so much better." I looked at Riley.
"Sure, I am happy to help. Anything for Haze," he said, bringing the back of her palm to his lips, causing her face to go red at once.
"Good, good," I said. "It will be easier for us. So let us try to get them before the end of tomorrow. That way, the ritual will start, and Hazel will get it done in at least in two days?" I looked at her, and she nodded.
**
After the brief meeting with my friends, we all swung into action, knowing how time was behind us. I returned to the den that day, and to my greatest surprise, the vampires didn't suspect a thing. When I did the head count, we had about thirty-nine captives from the Dusk Pack. In total, they had captured about a hundred and fifty from the four packs. My plan didn't work as I expected because the next day, Enzo kept me in the den while others were out hunting.
"I can almost taste the power!" Enzo exclaimed the next morning as he made his rounds in the prison, which held the wolves. He sniffed them, probably to find royal blood, but when he didn't, he just picked one man from the crowd, and he made me and the rest of the wolves watch as he drained the life out of the man.
"Make that a hundred and forty-nine, sidekick," he said to me, and I forced a smile on my lips as I tried to steady my failing breath.
After a while, he walked out of the prison while I followed him closely. He dismissed me at once, and I rushed to my room, shutting the door and pressing my back against it while trying to catch my breath. My legs trembled badly, and I knew I had to do something. I rushed to my bed to check on my friends.
"Enzo just killed a wolf right now. He drained his blood." That was the first thing I said to Hazel when she picked up.
"I am sorry you had to see that, Bella, but we have good news. We have about thirty wolves in the den, so we have only twenty left. How many have you been able to get?"
"None. He won't let me go," I said, and she sighed.
"I am sure we will be able to find more today. Just four for the five of us, and we will be done," she said, trying to
assure me.
