Chapter 40. Brock's Torture

Brock’s point of view:

What happened! What is wrong with her? Why did she pass out? I was sitting right next to her on the ground, wondering all these questions in my mind. luckily, I was able to catch her just in time.

Arch and some hunters came rushing in as well. I pulled her up from the ground and carried her upstairs to my room. I laid her on my bed under the blankets, but she still didn’t wake up. Drops of sweat were forming on her forehead and I yelled for a servant to get some water.

There were only a few servants here to keep everything clean. All the servants here were males, as to not distract the hunters from their training. There were only two female hunters, but they were strictly forbidden to get into any sexual affairs with the others.

The male servant had brought in some water and cloths to wash Emily's face.

“General, do you perhaps have some clothes for the Princess to change into?” The servant asked me.

I didn’t like the idea of him seeing my woman naked, but I could surely use the help though. I have undressed her before, but that was with her cooperation, now she was just a lame body. In my closet where some of my black shirts, which I gave to the servant. He had started to undress her gear already and was about to take the thin leather jacket form her body, when I let out a growl. The servant jumped up a bit but continued his job.

“I’m sorry general, but unless you want to do this on your own, you’d have to let me help you.” He said firmly.

But I didn’t want to argue him about the way he spoke to me, as normally he would’ve been punished for what he said. But if Emily was watching me right now, she would’ve slapped the back of my head for any aggressive tone towards someone that is trying to help me.

I took off her bra and as fast as I could, I pulled my shirt over her head. The servant helped me by keeping her arms up and he was careful enough not to look at her breasts. I appreciated that gesture of him. Her pants came off as well but I left her underwear on.

Sweat drops started to form again when she laid neatly under the covers. The servant washed her face again, and put a cold, wet washing cloth on her forehead. He took all of Emily’s clothes with him and walked towards the door. I thanked the servant and asked him if he could get Arch here. With a slight smile on his face he nodded, and went out of the room.

“How is she doing?” He asked me, a few moments later.

“Not well, I think she has a fever but I don’t know about any of these things.”

He said that he sent out one of the hunters to get a doctor from the castle. Then, he suggested for me to stay calm and stay with her for when she woke up.

“Arch, I don’t have a good feeling about this. Keep your most trusted hunters here at my door. When she hasn’t woken up tomorrow, I’ll go search for answers, you have to keep her safe until I return.” I demanded of him.

He nodded and assured me that he would do anything to keep her safe and left the room.

I laid next to her on the bed, but I couldn’t sleep at all. I had tried to wake her up several times, but all she did was sweating and laying still. After several hours, one of the doctors from the castle finally arrived together with Anna. She ran up to Emily as soon as she entered the room, and tried to wake her up. But she couldn’t, and nor could the doctor. He said it was strange though that she became so ill, so fast. I had explained to him what had happened but he couldn’t understand what might be wrong with her.

“I’m sorry I came along as well general, but when the King had found out about Emily, he went to get me and I insisted on joining the doctor. She is my best friend and I couldn’t let her be alone.” Anna said to me.

“Yes, I figured that is what happened, and it’s alright. Actually, it is quite a good thing, you can stay with her as I’m going to get Cirilya. Protect her with your life if you have to.” I said to her.

“No need for asking me that, you know I will.” She said and I nodded.

I went outside and whistled for Nightwing to come to me. After a short while both he and Bastet came flying in.

“I’m sorry Bastet, but Emily is not feeling well. I need to get help.” I said to her. I don’t know why I talked to her though, animals never listen to me. But now Bastet let her wings down in sadness, and Nightwing nudged her head in some sort of comforting way. Did they understand me now too? Well, I didn’t want to linger on that thought for long.

I let Nightwing fly as fast as he could. Too bad he couldn’t do what Bastet could with Emily. These few hours would feel like an eternity to fly through, but I have no choice, I have to get there as soon as possible. It was still dark, but dawn would come soon.

I was hoping that we could have some time without any setback, without any fear or new abilities to be amazed about. I just wanted her to be happy, to have some fun for a while. But also, to have some rest and some quiet time for us, together. Not having to think about any danger that might approach us, or persons we have to worry about. Not only because I wanted it, but also because she needed it. A person can only experience that much, before collapsing. I hoped this place would get her some well-deserved rest, joy and safety, as this was a spontaneous action, so no one knew we went this way.

But no, unfortunately she had to get sick. I had a feeling though that this wasn’t just a faint. I have the feeling that someone did this to her. Why would someone do that, what is this person’s motive? Was it the same person that send out the Orcs towards us?

Emily had to stay at the Lodge though, I couldn’t bring her with me. Now that we were aware of the danger, Arch could guard her very closely and I could get Cirilya. At this point she was not in mortal danger, at least I didn’t think so.

I’d kill myself if she wouldn’t wake up anytime soon. Her being asleep like this was excruciating for me.
