Chapter 4. Zenora
Huh? There are more worlds? Like other planets or something? And Anna comes from Zenora as well? I just sat there with my mouth wide open.
“And the, what did you say, Orc? Did he come from Zenora as well?” I asked, interrupting him.
“Yes, let me get to him, be still.” Shutting me up as he said that.
“The Kingdom of Terralon is where the humans live. Although, when I say humans it’s not the same as the humans from earth. We are stronger than normal humans and some of us have powers. The kingdom has beautiful grassy lands and snowy mountains. A lot of the animals from Zenora are strange to you, compared to the animals here on Earth…
He kept on talking about all the wonders of Zenora, and I noticed that Dennis spoke about the lands and creatures like he missed that place. His slow speech, along with a lot of emotion, almost made me miss the place, even though I have no memory of it whatsoever.
He talked about what the people are like in the castle and what the weather was like there. He told me that there are no actual seasons and that the weather all depended on where you were. Like on the snowy mountains it’s always winter and on the grassy lands, it’s almost always summer. There are also places where it’s only raining and always cloudy. Of course, it also rained sometimes on the grassy lands, to nourish the fields, but that never lasted long and the sun would come out quickly after it.
Then after some more explaining of what Terralon looked like, he told the part where the Orc came from.
“The Kingdom of Agravine is where the Orcs live. The lands contain deserts and rocky mountains. I haven’t had the chance to go there often, but what I’ve seen wasn’t good.”
He talked about the lands of Agravine without the same loving emotion. A cold look came from his face, almost as if he was angry about everything that had happened there.
Dennis didn’t tell me much about the Orc’s lands but only explained that most of the lands of Agravine were barren and without a lot of water places or forests. He told me how the Orcs consume the lands and hardly try to contain the beauty of it, or even care about the resources they gather. That’s why they are always fighting for more land to plunder because theirs contained nothing but rocks and sand.
And then he continued to talk about the Orc.
“The Orc you saw, was probably a scout. He had no powers, so was easier to kill for me and I had help killing him too.” He said with a small grin on his face.
I looked at Anna in confusion, as she never said she could fight and she doesn’t have the muscles or body for it either. But Anna shook her head. “No not me Milly, them.” She answered my thoughts and pointed at Miles and Dolly.
What is she talking about? They are just dogs, not trained killers!
“They are your animals to command.” Dennis continued.
“Yes of course they are, I trained them!” I said a bit annoyed as they were not continuing the story as fast as I wanted to hear it.
“It’s not just that, do you remember how you got them?” Anna asked me suddenly.
I sighed, as they knew the story as well, Dennis was even with me when we got them, but I still told the story again. “One time, a few years ago, we went to get some groceries and when we left the shop – which was near a highway – I saw a bunch of people, clutching together near the railing of the highway. Loud yelps and howling came from the midst of them. So, as the vet I was about to become, I went there to see what animals were making the noise. And when I reached the people and walked in between them, I saw two terrified white pups barking and howling as loud as they could.”
“Yes, and how did they respond to you when you reached them?” Anna continued to ask.
“They were calm and laid down submissively, so I could pet them and take them home to care for them. But that’s just because I was calm right?” I asked still confused.
“No, it’s not just as a result of you being calm. They listen to you because you compelled them to. You have the power to control certain beasts, just by thinking about it. You are the master of your dogs and when you were in danger, yesterday, they came to help and attacked the Orc with me. You are what we call a hunter.” Dennis answered my question and I rose my brows.
So, I could control animals with my mind?
This was all so much to take in. I mean, I knew I was easy communicating with animals but controlling them with my mind? Never in the world, I mean worlds as it seems, would I think of that. I laughed at the idea and thought of how my dogs would look like sitting up with their front paws in the air. But suddenly they did just that! I fell back to the ground astonished by it.
Anna laughed loudly and held her hands on her belly. “We tell you you’re a hunter and you make your dogs sit up straight?” She couldn’t control herself and laughed even louder. When she finally calmed down, she said my power is stronger now that I turned twenty-one and from now on it will only grow stronger and stronger.
Dennis had laughed too and told me more stuff. Like that we have faster healing abilities, are more resilient to diseases and are just stronger in general than humans from earth. That’s why I don’t have a headache anymore, my wound has healed. And because I am the master of my dogs, they heal faster as well.
Dennis then started to explain other things as well. He told me he is a warrior so he is good at combat – which I already knew - and is even stronger than a regular human from Zenora.
Anna however didn’t have any powers. “Nope, I’m just an engineer. The technology from Earth differs from the tech of Zenora, but it still comes easy to me.” Anna said, shrugging it off.
“But if you are an engineer, then why don’t you get straight A’s then?” I asked confused.
Anna told me it was just to cover up the fact that she was an engineer already. She didn’t want me to ask any questions about it until I came of age. Dennis had asked Anna to watch over me while I was at school and report to him if something happened.
After hearing that I became a bit angry actually. Was she only my friend because Dennis had asked her to? And why didn’t I grow up with this information? Hell, why didn’t I grow up in my own world? Did it have something to do about the Orc attacking us?
But before I could ask about it, we heard a sudden roar, so loud that it almost shook the ground.
“How much did you give him?” Dennis asked Anna in disbelief.
“Apparently, not enough.” She replied with an exhausted expression, while the both of them stood up.
Him? Was the Orc not dead then?
A/n: Let me know what you think of my story so far! Thank you!
