Chapter 35. The Moonlight Goddess
Emily’s point of view:
I’m getting very nervous now. Within an hour I was given this strange information about all the specialities and that I’m being able to pass them on to my children; then I had to explain everything to Brock because he was left in the dark as he couldn’t understand a word they said.
I made a note to myself, to spend a lot of time with him when we get back.
Anyhow, the whisp explained to me how to call for the Moonlight Goddess as this was not an easy job. I had to shoot a lunar beam in the air which is a druid’s ability. Besides this, I had to do it in front of all the Elves around the lake. Me? Doing something in front of several hundreds of people? Cirilya better gets well soon after all of this, so I get to kill her… Okay, let’s do this, while it’s still dark and with a full moon above us.
The leather pads of my gear and my bow and quiver pushed aside, I walked into the water of the pool and stood knee-deep. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves, not trying to look at all the Elves that stood around the lake. I just simply looked up to the moon, put my hands in the air with stretched arms and I formed my hands into a cup.
“Moonlight Goddess please hear my plea. Moonlight Goddess please come to me.” I said, hoping for something to happen. But nothing did and I got ashamed of what I was doing. This is just ridiculous!
I looked to my right to Cirilya, she had fallen asleep and became weaker by the second. I tried again and said the words again, but still… nothing. Tears came and I dropped myself to my knees, sinking myself in the water where my nose just touched the surface. I didn’t know what to do and I felt utterly hopeless.
But Brock came up to me and pulled me up, he stood in front of me and dried my tears.
“How did you feel when you had to stop Rhydon from charging into you?” He asked while lifting my chin to be able to look me in the eyes. I told him that I was determined to stop him and that I was sure that I could handle it.
“How did you feel when you needed to know where all the others went when we were at the Snowy Mountains.” He then asked and again I answered that I was determined to know when I touched Nightwings head.
“And last, but certainly not the least. How did you feel when you shot that Arcane Shot at the Orc, to save Anna?” I smiled at him and again I answered with the same answer. Determined to reach my goal.
“Then use your determination and feel the power that I know is within you.” He said and he kissed me before stepping out of the water again.
I love that man so much! He always knows how to touch the right string in my mind. I took a deep breath again to make myself calm and focused. I pushed my arms in the air and formed the cup again. For one slight moment, I gazed towards Cirilya’s almost lifeless body and knew what I had to do. I looked up to the moon and highly focused on channelling my energy through my body. I could feel a slight tingling sensation in every fibre of my being.
“Moonlight Goddess please hear my plea! Moonlight Goddess please come to me!” I shouted while I gave it all I got. I pushed my energy through my arms and light began to form in the cup of my hands. When my hands were completely filled with the energy, I pushed it even further and let out a loud scream which made the energy in my hands surge straight up into the sky! I dropped to my knees again because I was completely drained, but gazed into the sky to see that the light from the beam had disappeared into the dark again. It made me feel as if I had failed, not being able to summon any type of Goddess after all…
But after a few long minutes, something appeared in front of us.
A huge light glowed above the surface of the water, lighting up the complete forest, and silencing everyone around us. Then, as if she stepped through a portal, a woman appeared. An Elf so beautiful, so white and bright that I almost couldn’t look at her. Soon the bright, shining light dimmed and I could see her clearly now. She’s wearing a light, white flowy dress and she has white long hair all the way down where it almost touched the water. Her face looked so gentle and her bright icy blue eyes only complemented the silver necklace and earrings she wore.
“So, chosen one, finally we meet.” She said kindly. “I was hoping that we would have met sooner, though.” She said while looking at Cirilya. I looked at Cirilya too and I saw she dropped her hand to the side of her body. My feet made me run so fast to her that I almost tripped. Cirilya just stopped breathing…
“No! You’ve got to help her! Please, don’t let her die!” I cried, begging the Goddess to help her.
“I need something strong to do that, I need a powerful energy to create another.” She said.
“What kind of energy? Please tell me!” Again, I begged.
“One of the specialities that you might own.”
“Fine! Take the druid from me, but promise me you help her and help the Elven race! No, wait! Even better, grant Cirilya the power of the druids! You know she is worth it!”
I changed my plan. The druid’s powers shouldn’t be lost, they should be cherished by someone who has more affinity with the moon. Someone with more knowledge and experience with ancient powers. The whisp had told me that the druid was an Elven speciality, so this is the only rightful way. Returning the power to their race is the right thing to do.
“Yes, I know very well. Your wish shall be granted.” The Moonlight Goddess said.
She raised her arms to channel her energy, focusing her gaze on me. Suddenly, an orb made of green light rose from within my chest, slowly pulling outwards and floating in the air, in front of me. It made me feel as if my heart was being ripped out, and I couldn’t breathe for a moment. I clutched my chest, touching the skin where the burning feeling was searing underneath. But once I saw the green orb travelling towards Cirilya I knew that it contained the power of the druid and I knew that it was going to be all right.
Cirilya opened her eyes when the orb crashed through her chest, plunging itself into her body, forcing its way to be existent inside of her. She screamed in agony while lifting her chest, arching her back and searching for a way to release this pain! She must be feeling the same pain that I was feeling when the orb had left my chest.
But there was more, this was taking too long, something must be wrong. Cirilya kept screaming and then, something strange happened. Her long, silver-grey hair changed! From the roots at her scalp to the ends of her hair it changed into a different colour. A natural, dark green took over her silver hair and a silver thin-threaded tiara made its way through the locks of her hair and showed a green gem lodged in the front.
Then, when her transformation was complete, another light erupted from Cirilya’s chest and I could see that she was feeling the same pain all over again. But this time, the orb wasn’t green, it was slightly pink, with a hint of red. The pink orb floated towards the Goddess which she consumed within her own body and Cirilya succumbed to the loss of energy again and let herself fall unconscious once more.
The Goddess hummed and all the Elves around the lake started humming as well. Their sacred song started to form words again. This time not asking for help for an injured, but for replenishing the waters with their healing glow. The Goddess was focussing her energy to the core of her body and finally pushed out a blue glowing orb from her chest. She, then pushed the orb to the waters below her, where it stayed a few moments underneath the surface, to finally disperse itself throughout the whole lake. It lightened the lake up so much that the frogs and fish in there could be seen.
The returned glow and serenity looked beautiful! A florescent blue came from the waters and slightly lit up the air above it.
Norim picked his daughter up and walked into the water, at which the Elves around us started their song again for healing the infection in her blood. When the song was finished, her body started glowing just as it did before and the magic lifted her body into the air.
This time it took a bit longer though, as I guess there was enough water now to heal her completely. And when the infection had been fought, her body lowered down again and she was laid on the ground at the side of the lake. Her breathing became steady and a red, healthy blush appeared on her cheeks.
“That will be all, I wish you and Cirilya a fruitful future.” The Goddess smiled.
“Thank you. Thank you for saving her!” I replied in worship.
The bright, white light that had appeared in the beginning, appeared again, and the Moonlight Goddess stepped into it, vanishing into thin air. Leaving the forest behind in the dark, except for the glow on the lake.
“Cirilya? Are you alright? Please be alright!” I yelled, begging for an answer.
“You don’t have to scream so loud Emily, I’m right here.” She opened her eyes and I got a strong hug from her. She looked so different than before and only now did I realise I hadn’t noticed every change that occurred earlier, because her eyes had turned green also and she had this little crescent moon tattoo on her right collarbone now.
“Can you still read my mind? Or communicate with me in my mind?” I had asked her and she tried but shook her head that she couldn’t. I guess the Goddess took her mage speciality from her to give the waters their healing properties again. “I’m sorry you lost your mage Cirilya. I’m so sorry! I wanted to give you the druid part, as it would’ve been gone otherwise!” I cried and hugged her.
“Emily you just saved my life! Besides that, I’m honoured to be the first druid in over two thousand years! Of course, I will miss the mage part, but I will grow into this new role over time, and If I choose to have children of my own, the druid line will be passed on. So, in a way you have brought both the Humans and the Elven race into a new age!” She said to me completely happy, which shocked me in surprise. She is happy?
“Besides, the fact that you have saved my daughter, the Goddess used Cirilya’s mage powers to get the healing properties of the waters back, so we get to live an immortal life again! We owe you our lives, we shall forever be in your debt!” Norim said as he bowed to me.
Then when I looked around, one Elf after another bowed as well and soon all of them that stood around the lake had their heads bent forward. I shivered, not liking this at all. Anyone would’ve done this if they were able to, right? Brock came up to me and held me tight. “Just accept it, love, you did a great job.” I looked up into his eyes and kissed him dearly, to distract myself from all those gazing eyes.
“Thank you, but I couldn’t have done it without you and your comforting words. You always seem to be able to run my emotions in the right direction. I love you.” As I said that, I kissed him again. “I love you too my fierce little hunter.” He replied.
“I’m tired now, could we take a few hours of sleep before we go home again?” I asked Brock and he just grinned and walked me out of the water in which I was still standing with my bare feet. He found a nice soft patch of grass near one of the big trees and he sat against it with his back to the bark of it. I laid my head on his lap and I fell asleep while Brock brushed my hair with his fingers.
