Zenora, The Dragon's Fury

Chapter 34. Contemplation

Brock was still reluctant to tell me what had happened. I hated Nicolai for blocking Brock’s mind. What could be so awful that he had to do that?

“I DEMAND YOU TO TELL ME! Or I swear I’ll kill Nicolai to break the barrier!” I yelled once more.

I broke, fury rising inside of me. I could feel my eyes burning, gleaming with fire within me.

Brock took a step backwards, suddenly afraid of what was happening in front of him.

“Emily, your eyes… your eyes… they are red!” Brock said.

I didn’t care at that moment. All I wanted was for him to tell me what had happened!

Air around me started to whirl up, elevating me off the ground, pushing my hair up in the air. I used the Mage’s Fury to push Brock against the wall of the castle, looking him straight in his eyes, trying to break the barrier that was holding back the secrets.

As I tried to enter his mind, I could see an invisible barrier, blocking the content behind it. I screamed, using my power to mentally knock down that wall, and to my surprise it crumbled down, like I threw a rock through a glass window.

The images of what had occurred, what he had told me already, flushed through hismind. Watching the events passing by, following the timeline of occurrence. Just like he told me, the images of the naked women, me screaming in a tub and him being greeted by Ursai came by. Finally I reached the moment where he had entered the battlefield.

He had attacked Hayden, then the Dark Mages and then Hayden woke up again. I could see that he was holding a dagger above my dad and tears started to form in my eyes.

“No, no, no… this is not…” I stammered.

I saw Brock running to him, trying to stop him from plunging his dagger into my dad’s chest. But he failed, he was just a second too late.

“This can’t be true!” I yelled.

I continued to look, hoping that he would survive, hoping that the dagger just missed his heart. But the images only showed me tears, sadness and finally death. I kept searching, still reluctant to believe that he was actually gone. Searching through Brock’s mind, I found the point of where the ceremony was held, where my father was being buried. I cried my heart out. The ceremony was beautiful, Brock had arranged it well. But I wished that I could have been there, that I could have been the one to speak at his funeral.

I couldn’t bear this! I just couldn’t live with the fact that my dad has died. Maybe I could have accepted it if he died of old age, but this is just brutal. Hayden will die for this! I will scour the ends of the world! Only to find him and torture him for ages!

But the worst thing was, that I wasn’t there to help my father! If I was there, if I had done something sooner to rescue all of my loved ones, This wouldn’t have happened! My father wouldn’t be dead!

I kept crying, fury enraging throughout my whole body, I needed to release this energy of the Mage’s Fury! But how am I going to do that? Normally this fury was caused while seeing your loved ones die in front of you, while the killer stood there too. But this time it happened before I saw my loved ones being killed, and it worsened when I saw it all vividly happen in Brock’s mind, without Hayden being close at all.

Maybe somehow I knew what had happened, maybe because of what Noliyah told me, I was getting angry up front.

Brock dropped on the floor, released from my grip. But my fury kept raging.

My energy can’t hurt Brock! I know that he feels failed right know, and even though I am furious as hell, I can’t hurt Brock. I have to get my energy out a different way! But how!

Ayinthur’s point of view:

I could feel Emily’s fury, her emotions running wild. She had found out about something that was firing up her inner core beyond being able to be doused any time soon.

From afar I could see a red glow consume her body, lifting her up from the ground far above the castle’s peaks. She screamed in horror, unable to clench her thirst by obliterating someone with her red energy.

If someone bad was to stood in front of her, she would have killed that person on sight. But she was strong, she has to find out how to control the Mage’s Fury, how to release it in another way. Her power could incinerate anyone, no matter how strong that person is.

That’s why she flew up, to avoid the possibility of anyone talking to her, to avoid killing anyone by accident.

I wanted to fly up, to be the one to actually talk to her. But I couldn’t, I have to secure her daughter.

Suddenly the red glow formed an glass-like orb around her, forcing her to hang still in the air. She had pulled her knees up, holding herself tight, hanging centred in the orb that was now a solid globe of ruby-red stone.

She was still alive, as different emotions were viciously roaming through her mind. She felt hopeless, angry, sad, depressed, confused and worried. All at the same time.

People from everywhere gathered around the castle, trying to get a glimpse of what was up in the air above the castle.

“Ayinthur, you have to take me up there.” Cirilya suddenly spoke.

Of course, she had seen what had happened to Emily as well. She had followed me before, and helped me putting down the egg and made sure that she was comfortable. But now she was demanding me to take her up there with me.

“I know you want to help her, but we can’t leave the egg behind, and you don’t know what Emily is going to do.” I said to her.

“I know, but we have to do something!” Cirilya yelled.

“Call the Goddess.” I simply stated.

She looked at me with a dumbfounded expression. Contemplating whether or not she should bother the Goddess with this kind of matter.

“I know that you are reluctant with that idea, but we aren’t looking at just anyone that is angry. We are looking at someone who has ancient powers, and clearly her powers other than her hunter, are not transferred. Apparently she still has the power from the mage, so maybe the other powers as well.” I told Cirilya.

“But…” She started her sentence, and looked up at her friend.

“Cirilya, there is a reason for you to be her friend. Don’t you think it is mighty convenient that the ‘Chosen one’, who got chosen by the Goddess herself, has a friend that has the ability to summon the Goddess? That when she needs help, the Goddess can be asked to help her?”

“Well…” She still hesitated.

“And don’t you think that if the Goddess didn’t have the time, or didn’t want to spend time, or even wanted to help anyone at all, that she would come at your bidding? Don’t you think that she can deny your summoning? She is powerful enough to take your power, so she could have easily decided to not come, right? I asked her.

“Yes, you are right, she came every time I asked for her. And never did she complain about me doing that.” Cirilya finally succumbed to my arguments.

I let out a sigh, as I saw how she used her power to summon the Goddess.

She lifted her hands in the air, filled the bowl that she formed with her hands, with white magic, and shot it straight up in the air while speaking words in her ancient Elven language.

“Moonlight Goddess please hear my plea. Moonlight Goddess please come to me.”

I have lived for over eighty years already, and this was one of the first other languages that I have learned from my father when I was younger. I found it hard to learn, but whenever I heard him speak in this language, I was astound by how beautiful it sounded. And I feel just as astounded now, because now it was spoken by an actual Elf and I was amazed by the sound of it.

After a few minutes, an amazing blue orb appeared at our sides, and out came the Moonlight Goddess. She looked still as gorgeous as I remembered her, almost five years ago.

“Why thank you Ayinthur! I see you have found what you’ve been looking for. Cherish her, will you?” She nodded towards the egg and I blushed.

“What do you mean? Is she my…?” I replied in the Elven language, and the Goddess nodded to my silent question.

Cirilya’s jaw dropped. “You can speak my language?” She asked.

“Yes, but that isn’t of importance right now, remember?” I pointed upwards with one of my claws.

The Goddess smiled and looked up. She didn’t say a thing, she just went and flew up to where Emily was still hanging in her red orb.

I looked down at the egg that was wrapped around with my tail. I was desperately hoping that the girl inside, is what the Goddess was implying. But she wasn’t bound to be born yet, so I was trying to distract my mind with the happening of Emily.
