Chapter 10. Morals
Brock’s point of view:
Tyler is becoming really strong, and we need to guide him with the right moral standards. I don’t want him to kill everyone who opposes him on the first attempt, they do something wrong.
Of course, I had seen Emily her blue scorching eyes, as she was about to kill that man herself. So, this man was going to die anyway, even without the interruption of our son.
“Luckily, we had already decided to let Tyler be trained by you. That way we can keep a close eye on him.” Emily said to me.
“Yes, we have to be wary to not let him see anyone get killed easily. He has to know that some people, who do terrible things, could also deserve a second chance.” I replied.
Emily agreed to me and we talked about it a little more, as to how we should talk to Tyler about it. He can do whatever it takes to defend his loved ones, but when it comes to punishing people, he has to know how to be justified in his actions.
“Oh, yes, there is one more thing. Tyler has been sneaking out of the castle, towards the aviary. Apparently one of the gryphons has taken a liking in him, and Axel suggested to put him in the ceremony.” Emily said.
“Yes, I already knew that.” I replied, as I have seen him go there after our training sessions. Emily looked at me with confusion in her eyes. Of course, being only four, I didn’t let him go alone.
“One of my warriors always kept an eye out for him, following him unseen. Besides that, I think it is great for him to get his own gryphon. I got Nightwing when I was six, and he was a great comfort for me, whenever I got angry.”
She agreed to me, and told me that she would sign him up for the ceremony soon. We gave each other a kiss and decided to go to the dining-room for dinner.
“Kaden, stop playing with your food! Tyler, I think that meat has been punched enough already!” Emily yelled to our sons.
“My meat could use some extra beating though.” I whispered to her in her ear, at which she looked angry at me, squinting her eyes. All I could do is chuckle.
Meanwhile the boys didn’t listen to their mother, so I raised my voice and made them stop. Emily glared at me, and I was slightly amused by the face she drew, as she wasn’t able to make our sons stop their shenanigans. I continued eating my steak and mashed potatoes, and drank some wine along with it.
Then the door opened and Natalya came in the room with a woman that I don’t know.
“She is the woman I saved from the man who got killed.” Emily responded to my thoughts and I nodded.
“Guys, this is Ruth, and I wanted a chance to meet you all, so if it is okay with you, she will be dining with us.” Natalya said. We all nodded and so they took a seat at the table.
Ruth didn’t say a word and kept her head down, for quite some time. I guess she is not used to eat at the same table as her master, let alone the King and Princess for that matter. Natalya filled her plate with a piece of meat, vegetables and mashed potatoes. That’s when she lifted her head towards Natalya, completely in disbelieve that the food she just got served, was for her.
“No miss, I can’t do that. Please let me at least wait until you are all finished. I’ll take whatever there is left.” She whispered to Natalya.
I could hear Emily groan next to me, I know she isn’t mad at the woman, only mad at the way the men have been treating her.
“Natalya, I assume you have been talking to her, about our protocols?” I asked her.
“Yes, but I think it will take some time for her to…” Natalya started to reply, but got interrupted by the face that Ruth drew, when looking up for the first time, pointing her gaze towards me.
“No! This can’t be! Wh- What are you doing here?” Ruth said with wide open eyes, looking at me.
I explained to her that I have never seen her before, so that it was strange for her to act like this. She must have confused me with someone else.
Nicolai and Emily shared some looks at each other, but shook their heads mildly. Emily had told me earlier that she wasn’t able to read Ruth’s mind, and apparently Nicolai couldn’t either.
“Don’t act like this, you think that with a shaved face and nice clothes, I wouldn’t recognize you? You killed her!” Her eyes turned red, and for a second I thought that she possessed the ability of the Mage’s Fury. But there was no swirling air around her, and she didn’t use magic at all. She just picked up her steak knife and threw it in my direction.
I anticipated her actions and dodged the knife that was coming my way. She then crouched over the table, knocking over some bowls and glasses and then Tyler jumped at Ruth, holding his little sized sword to her neck and Kaden jumped at them too, telling his brother to release her. Only for him to pin her against the wall with a shield of his own.
I was proud at my sons, they were so quick and strong, and only four and a half years old. But what I was the most proud of, is that Tyler didn’t kill her immediately. Was he able to understand morality, even though we haven’t been talking about that to him?
“Yes daddy, she is not bad, only thinks that you are bad.” Kaden said, clearly he read my mind.
“But how does Tyler know that?” Emily now asked Kaden.
“I don’t know, he just does.” Kaden said.
The twin connection they have, must have something to do with that, and the fact that they are really strong helps too.
Ruth was still pinned to the wall by Kaden’s shield, still with red eyes, trying to break through the shield. Her thin body was squirming, and she let out screams in anger, not losing her gaze to me. I asked Nicolai and Emily if they could read her mind, but both nodded in refusal. How was this possible? And how are we going to get her out of this rage?
And what was she talking about, me killing a woman or a girl? The last time that I killed someone, was months ago, during the attack on a small rebel camp. I don’t recall killing a female enemy there, and if I would have, how would she come to know about that?
“I just contacted Cirilya, and explained what is going on. She is on her way, she said to keep her in the dungeon and make sure that Brock won’t be near her.” Nicolai said, with a sigh.
“You know more.” I stated to him.
“Yes, but now is not the time to be talking about it. She is not in control over this, so let’s get her secured first.”
Nicolai took over from Kaden, creating his own shield, and took her with him, towards the dungeons. Natalya left with Nicolai, to see if she could help Ruth with calming down.
Emily asked our sons to go to their room, and so Kaden teleported them there.
“I know you didn’t kill any female, but according to Ruth, you look quite similar to someone she knows. Do you have any relatives that look like you?”
I haven’t thought of it that way, but as far as I know, I’m the last living member of my family line. Besides my sons that is.
“Not that I’m aware of.”
“Hmm… strange. I still couldn’t read her mind. I hope that we can help her though, and find out what is going on.” She said and I nodded.
