Words Unspoken

Chapter Chapter Sixteen

Get it together Sam. Get it together. We're in the middle of a rebellion, there's no time to start a relationship now. Is there? Of course there's not. I don't know how long we sat at the abandoned house, but Noah finally left and made our way back to the factory, the same way we came from, so we wouldn't be spotted by anyone. Once we got back to the factory, it was already three in the morning.

Thankfully everyone was asleep. Walking over to my bed, I turned on the light. My eyes darted over to Krista's bunk, but she wasn't there.

"At this point she should just stay with Ben." He said with a soft quiet chuckle.

"I know, she rarely sleeps up there." I said as I sat down on my bed, Noah sitting next to me, very close actually, our legs touching. I turned to look at him, he seemed to be in his thoughts at the moment.

"Hey, thanks for today. For showing me your secret place." I whispered and smiled at him. He turned to look at me and smiled.

"I trust you...just as much as I trust Ben and Krista and Kyle of course, but I don't know why I brought you there and not the others." He said as he gazed into my eyes for a minute.

"I don't know either but I feel pretty special." I said with a smile. Noah gave me a nod and a second later I saw that his face was moving closer to mine. He stopped and quickly turned away. I cleared my throat slightly and glanced down at the floor. Silence now filled the awkward moment.

"We should get some sleep, it's late." I mumbled softly before shifting and laying down on my bed, my back facing him, not bothering to even look at him. A second later the bed shook slightly and I slowly peaked over my shoulder to see Noah laying next to me. I turned back around, a small smile forming on my lips. His hand snaked around my waist and pulled me close and I let out a quiet sigh and closed my eyes, drifting off into sleep.

The next morning, everyone was gathered around Jill's desk. She was giving us the rundown for the day. Kyle, Noah and Ben were heading into the next neighborhood to scan the area and whatnot. Krista and I were gonna spend the day in town and Jill was headed back to the pharmacy.

"Girls day!" Krista said, smiling at me as everyone dispersed for the day. I laughed, shaking my head as I watched Kyle, Noah and Ben leave. A small sigh escaped my lips as my thoughts went back to the night before. Was he actually going to kiss me or was I imagining it. Honestly I had no idea.

"You alright?" Krista asked me, tapping my arm and I blinked a few times. "Uh, yeah I'm great." I said with a wide smile. She raised an eyebrow suspiciously, but shrugged her shoulders. We were the last ones to leave.

Twenty minutes passed and we ended up in town. Since it was early in the morning, everyone I knew was at work. But of course I still had to keep on some sort of disguise. My long blonde hair was tucked away underneath a black wig. Where did I get the wig? Well, Krista and Ben had found them in an antique store that sold old furniture. Luckily for us, the owner there was a supporter for our cause and showed them some stuff he and his family have been hiding from the cops, to give to us from time to time.

Krista and I ended up at the cafe where I first met Noah. A small smile formed on my lips as I thought back on that day.

As Krista went to get us coffee, I found us a table by the window and sat down.

"So, where did you and Noah go?" Krista asked as she set my coffee down in front of me. I thought for a moment wondering if I should tell her not, but decided not to.

"Nowhere really, just for a walk." I said taking a small sip of my coffee and leaned back in my seat.

"Right, right." She said, obviously not believing me. "Look if it's something between you and Noah that's totally fine." She said with a chuckle.

My eyes gazed out the window for a moment before turning to look at her.

"Can I tell you something? But you can't say this to anyone." I said to her and she raised her eyebrow. She held her hand with her pinky out. "Pinky swear, we're besties for life now." She said as I rolled my eyes and reached over, locking my pinky with hers.

"I might be falling in love with Noah, and it's scaring me a little bit because I don't know what to do." I said with a small sigh. Krista's eyes widened at what I said and she almost choked on her coffee. She set her cup down and coughed a few times. Once she got herself together she stared at me for a minute.

"Are you for real? Or are you messing with me?" She asked and I shook my head.

"No, I'm serious." I said with a chuckle and leaned back in my seat, crossing my arms over my chest.

"This is...amazing." She said, smiling at me. "I'm glad you think so, but I don't know if he feels the same way. Last night..." I started but stopped and bit the inside of my cheek.

"Last night what?" She asked and motioned for me to speak again.

"Last night, I thought he was going to kiss me. But he didn't." I said as I tapped my finger on the side of my arm.

It was quiet for a minute, Krista was lost in thought, but it looked like she had something to say.

"What is it? Spit it out." I said and shifted slightly in my seat.

"I don't wanna be the one to tell you this...but from what I heard...Noah feels the same way." She said to me. I blinked a few times, too stunned to speak. So he did have feelings for me. A small sigh of relief escaped from my lips. I knew though that neither of us were gonna act on it, especially with what's going on with the world around us. But hopefully, when things start looking better, we'd tell eachother how we really feel. But First, let's get the world back to normal.

I nodded my head slowly, grabbing my coffee and lifting it to my lips and took a sip.

"You didn't hear it from me." She said as she pretended to zip her lips and took a sip of her coffee. After our little conversation, we sat there quietly, just listening and observing our surroundings.

A few hours passed and there was not much to report back to Jill today. It was getting harder and harder to find more people to recruit and bring back to our hideout. I understood why though, no one really wanted to face the government or face any consequences like prison, or even death. I shuddered at the thought.

Krista and I left the cafe and decided to walk around aimlessly around town before heading back to the factory before curfew.

A few people had returned from their day out, except for the guys.

Krista made her way to Ben's bunk to wait for him. I smiled and shook my head before plopping down on my bed. I grabbed my book from under the pillow and settled back, getting comfortable as I focused all my attention on my book. A couple minutes passed and the sound of the door opening closing echoed in the room. I knew it was the guys from the sounds of their voices.

"Hey! How'd it go?" I glanced up to see Kyle and smiled at him. "Pretty boring actually." I replied and he nodded his head.

"Yeah us too, it took us about an hour to get there." He said, shaking his head. "But we'll figure it out. Maybe rather than taking a car, we can find some bikes or something." He said.

"That's actually not a bad idea." A voice said from behind him. Kyle and I looked over to see Noah standing there.

"We'll find some bikes, help us get there quicker. We also have to find some different routes to steer clear of the cops." He added. Kyle gave him a nod and he glanced at him, giving me a small smirk before walking over to his bunk. Leaving me and Noah alone once again.

"So which town are you guys headed to next?" I asked as I set my book down next to me.

"We're headed over to Brightwood, there's a lot more houses in that area, so we have to be extra careful." He said as he sat down on the bed.

"Well, make sure you keep my brother in your line of sight. And you should be careful too. I don't want anything bad happening to you guys." I said, turning my gaze down to the floor as I picked at my fingers. Noah placed his hand on mine, making my heart skip a beat.

"I'm always careful. But as per your request, I'll be extra careful." He said to me as I slowly nodded my head before turning to look at him. My thoughts went back to what Krista had said to me earlier. Noah has feelings for me, he does like me. But both of us were too scared to admit to each other or do anything about it.

"Can I sleep here tonight?" He asked me and I raised my eyebrow at his question. I had no idea why he asked, since he slept here last night.

"Yeah, of course you can. Why are you asking?" I said and tilted my head slightly to get a better look at him. He just shrugged his shoulders.

"I honestly don't know." He said with a chuckle and shook his head. "I guess...I just get a better sleep when I'm here with you." He said lifting his head to meet my eyes.

"I get that." I said with a nod and smiled slightly. I moved my book out of the way and the two of us just laid in my bed. I rested my head on his chest, just listening to the sound of his heartbeat for a few minutes.

"If something happens-" Noah said, speaking up but I cut him off.

"Don't ... don't you dare say that if something bad happens, because nothing bad will happen." I said lifting my head to look at him. His eyes scanned my face before nodding his head slowly.

"Yeah, yeah...it's gonna be fine." He said as I watched him swallow a lump in his throat. Why was he acting like this? He was usually never scared to go out and do what he had to do. He always made sure that we weren't followed, or made sure that no one was watching. Out of the entire group, Noah was the one who made sure we were all safe. Maybe that's what's on his mind? That he had all this responsibility and no one to help him.

"I'll come with you." I said breaking away from my thoughts. Noah snapped his head to look at me.

"Are you nuts? We can barely get through our town with this shit, let alone get it done in another neighborhood, which could be worse than ours." He said with his eyebrows furrowed slightly.

"I just wanna help that's all." I said as we just stared at each other for a minute. Noah let out a sigh and laid his head back down. "I can't...you're staying here. Do you understand me?" He said as he looked back over at me. Rather than getting into an argument, I just nodded my head to what he said.

"Okay." I said and nothing else before resting my head back on his chest. I felt his arm wrap around me and held me close to his body.

"I don't wanna lose you too, okay?" He said to me, but I didn't respond, just letting out a small huff as we laid there for the rest of the night.
