Wolf under an oak tree.

Chapter 60

Iris Hendrix

I took the dagger from Camila's hand and safely kept it inside my handbag, and after telling her my farewell, I left her house and the pack on my way back home. I have to figure out a plan. When I reached the border patrol, I stopped my car since I saw Zander having a serious discussion with one of the border patrols. I honked at him a few times, and that got his attention, at first he had a blank look on his face before a smile broke out.

“Iris!” he yelled at me and waved, and I waved back before he turned around and told something to the guard before he started walking toward me. “So, were you able to get out of there without losing the way?” he teased and from the smirk on his face, I know that he must have known I have been touring the blueblood pack for almost an hour now since I lost my way.

“You know, I think you should let your alpha know that he should put up some sign boards to navigate better,” I replied, and he laughed at me.

“I think if we did put that up, you will be the only person using that. Since all the werewolves are pretty good at directions.” he joked, and I shook my head.

“So, I know, I shouldn't be meddling with your personal issues. But when I saw you in the morning, I noticed that you were having something in mind that is bothering you. Is everything okay?” Zander’s abrupt question made my brain blank for a a couple of minutes.

“Um, yeah, everything is fine. I was thinking about a few papers that I have to sign.” I said, and he nodded his head.

“Anyway, did you know that our alpha has found his luna finally?” Zander asked me with pride, and for some odd reason, I felt like maybe Jace must have finally told someone about my existence, and this brought the butterflies inside my stomach back to life.

“Oh, I didn't know that. Who is that? Is she from your park?”

“Yeah, it is Jennifer Carlton. And even though I am not very happy that she is going to be our Luna, I guess fate feels that she is the best fit.” every word that he uttered pierced my heart a bit more, and my eyes watered, but I controlled myself so that I wouldn't cry in front of him.

“Oh, that's great news.” I choked my words out, and I think Zander didn't notice that.

“Alright, Iris. I will catch up with you later then,” he said, and I nodded my head, he walked away from my car, and that is when I noticed that he was slightly limping.

What happened to him?

“Zander, wait!” he turned around to look at me, and I quickly got down from my car and made my way toward him.

“You were walking just fine in the morning, what happened to you now?”

“Oh, that. After I left you at the Gamma’s house, I went to check the borders before heading to my training session, and there I was attacked by a group of rogues, what was bizarre about them was that their nails were coated with silver, and one of them embedded its nails deep into my calf and my stomach. And I guess you know that wounds caused by silver are hard to heal.” he explained, and I felt bad for him. I mean, it was because of me that he was late for his training session. And then he had to battle with all those rogues alone. So against my better judgment, I made up my mind to help him.

“I think, I can help you with that. Can you come with me?” I asked him, and Zander stared at me as if I have grown two heads, but then he nodded his head and slowly followed me back to the car. “I will heal you when we go to my place,” I said, and he didn't speak anything.

When I reached home, I quickly took my spare keys out of my handbag and opened the door to see that none of them were home. “Come in.” I welcome Zander and lead him toward the living room. Once we were seated there, I turned around to look at him.

“Okay, can you show me the cut that you have in your stomach?” I asked him, and he nodded his head and lifted his shirt up, and I saw that the bandage that was wrapped around the wound was soaked with blood. I took a pair of scissors, slowly cut the gauge, and removed it to see three large nail marks that have gone pretty deep, and the blood is still dripping out from the wound.

“Do you make any herbal medicine or something?” he asked me with a skeptical look, and I gave him a bright smile.

“Wait and watch,” I said and slowly placed my hand on the wound, and he hissed in pain. I slowly closed my eyes and imagined the skin mending back together and all the silver in his system draining out. The familiar tingling sensation started in my hand, and when I opened my eyes, the wound slowly started to heal itself, and then it left behind a faint pink scar. There was not a trace there that a few minutes back the wound was oozing with blood, and the only evidence that he had a cut on his stomach, is the blood that stained my hand.

I repeated the same procedure to his leg, and once I had cleaned the living room and washed my hands, I made two cups of hot chocolate and brought them to the living room, where Zander was seated in the same posture that I left him.

“Are you a witch?” was the first thing he asked me, and a laugh left my mouth.

“Nope, I am as human as the neighbor who is living next door.” I joked, and he was still having that astonished look on his face.

“Only one person in our pack was able to do this. And she is dead right now. And now you can do this. Does this mean you are Alpha Jace’s mate?” Zander is quite sharp, and I know that there is no point in lying to him since he has already seen what I can do.

“Yes, I am Jace’s mate. But he doesn't know that I can do all these and it would be great if you don't tell him either. I want to be the first person to let him know about this.”
