Chapter 18
I gently placed Iris on my bed and pulled the blanket over her body. “Jace, what happened between Walter and you? Why are you two so tensed?” Mike questioned, and I sighed before I went into my closet and wore a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt.
“Iris found out that we are werewolves,” I answered his previous question while I took a seat on the couch that was facing the huge tv.
“What! How did that happen?” Mike asked, and I can hear the shock and fear evident in his voice. Before I could answer his question, Walter bragged into my room with the pack doctor, and I had to use all my self-restraint to not attack Walter again.
“Alpha,” the doctor bowed in respect, and I simply nodded my head and turned my glance to where Walter was standing, and I send a deadly glare his way, and if looks could kill, he would be ten feet below by now.
“Thank you, Dr.Reid, for coming here on time,” I said, and I led him towards my unconscious mate. The next few minutes went by agonizingly slowly, and I noticed that everyone was holding their breaths, waiting to hear what Dr.Reid would say.
“It looks like she just passed out due to shock. But other than that, she is completely fine. And I have given her an injection, so she should be awake in two hours. But if she doesn't wake up, mind link me immediately.” Dr.Reid said, and I thanked him before he left the room. The room once again was surrounded by a tense silence, and I think the three of us were anticipating who will speak up first.
“Jace, I am sorry about earlier I...” I abruptly got up from the couch and approached Walter in three large strides, anger radiating from my body in waves, and from the fear that is lingering in Walter's eyes, I know that my eyes must be a liquid gold by now.
“You fucking knew!” Walter cowered and bowed his head, not uttering a single word which infuriated me even more.
“I didn't know she was your mate Jace, I swear.” his voice was barely audible but due to my wolf hearing, I was able to hear. “If I would have known that, I would have never flirted with her.” no matter how pissed off I am right now, I know deep down that Walter meant every word that he just said. “And I swear, I would never do that to my best friend.” Walter’s voice cracked at the last sentence, and I couldn't take it anymore, I engulfed him in a huge hug, forgiving him for his mistake.
“I am sorry I attacked you. It's just that, when I saw you kiss my mate, I lost it.” I mumbled before pulling away from him, and he nodded his head in understanding before turning his glance towards Iris.
“So, what are we going to do with her now?” Walter's question lingered in the air, no one dared to answer that.
“I guess, let's see how she reacts when she wakes up, and then we can decide what to do next,” I replied and went over and took a seat at the end of the bed.
“Well, I sure as hell know that she is going to go apeshit on us,” Mike said, and I can sense he was trying very hard to control his laughter. And when I was about to flip him off, something strange came to my mind.
The vision!
“Iris knew,” I whispered, and I stood up to face my best friends, who were looking dumbfounded.
“What are you talking about, Jace?” Mike asked me, with a frown forming on his face. But I ignored his question and sat on the sofa thinking about the vision that Iris showed me a few days back.
“Iris can see the future. Or it's more like she can show you your future.” I rumbled, and I know that I am not making any sense at the moment.
“Wait! You mean to say that you knew that we were going to fight beforehand?” Walter asked astounded, and I merely nodded my head, trying to figure out everything that is happening around me.
“Yeah, I think Iris can show you the future.” the room was quiet after the statement that Walter just made, and I looked at him with a confused expression.
“Can you guys remember, the first time I met Iris, she showed me a blurred vision of me getting slapped by a chick, and surprisingly it came true?” Walter’s excitement was practically radiating throughout my entire room.
“So, does this mean that she is not an ordinary human?” Mike questioned, and I ignored both of them and looked at Iris’s sleeping face.
What are you hiding from us, Iris?
“I don't know what is going on guys, but I think the only person who can give us an explanation for this is Iris,” I said, and just then my room door banged open, and in walked none other than my beloved mother.
“Oh my God! What did you idiots do to her?” mom’s high-pitched voice echoed throughout the room.
“Luna! We didn't know that you would be back home so quickly.” Walter said and bowed his head.
“Well, now that I am here, can one of you tell me as to why you shifted in the middle of the forest? And that too in front of a human!” mom yelled at Walter and me, and her face was marred with anger, with her eyes constantly changing color.
“Mom, we can explain.” I tried to calm her down, but her death glare made me shut my mouth and submit to her.
“Look who's tail is tucked in between now!” Sean laughed in my head.
“Luna, we have a slight problem here and...” before Mike could finish his sentence, we heard a squawk from the bed, and when we turned around, we saw that Iris was now wide awake and she was looking at all of us with terror in her eyes.
“Iris, how are you feeling?” I cautiously approached the bed, and with every step that I took forward, she cowered behind.
“Don't come near me,” she whispered in a hoarse voice which made me halt in my steps, and my wolf whimpered at the words she uttered.
