Wolf Pack

Chapter The touch

We had dinner and agreed to sleep early, after all, the big ball was tomorrow, during the day we were going to help Hughes get everything ready, but before leaving Jack walked to the door and made a sign to me to accompany him, he left and waited for me leave as well until I close the door behind me.

“Listen, we need to talk.”

He said as he touched my shoulder lightly, bringing the sparks up again, excitement came through, his nostrils flared as if he could smell me, I noticed his breath hitch and he swallowed hard closing his eyes.

“I can smell your arousal.” Jack said and opened his eyes revealing his bright gaze, his wolf was ready. He shook his head and took two steps back.

“I think it might have to do with me being an alpha.” I said and Jack automatically returned to normal, as if bringing rationality to him.

“Maybe, your bloodline is all alphas and the effects of that time are strongest on alphas and you’ve just turned. But the weird thing is how I react to it, I’ve never felt anything like it and I don’t have alphas in my family.”

“But you will probably become one, no?”

“Maybe.”

Jack looked down, even though the shock of arousal had worn off, and he was six feet away from me, I was still nervous in his presence.

“Whatever it is, we need to let it go, for us wolves, Soulmeet is like our religion, nothing overrides that, and we both need to wait to find our mates. Maybe it won’t happen tomorrow, and I don’t want to do anything that could jeopardize either Soulmeet or our friendship.”

“Does this have anything to do with what happened to Mina and you?”

The words escaped my mouth, only later did I realize how nosy I had been. I put my hand over my mouth instinctively, and he stared at me with his eyes in astonishment.

“I’m sorry Jack, it’s none of my business.”

“You’re right, it has something to do with her, yes, she seemed to fit into my life, I liked her, we would be the Betas of the Pack, and we even dated for a while before the first Soulmeet, and suddenly, it didn’t happen. You have no idea how frustrated she was when we arrived at the ball and nothing happened, couples formed, and we just stood there. The comments started and she practically couldn’t look at me, and working together only made it harder. I confess that we even had hopes of happening at the second Ball, but it was not to be. We were very good friends and now, we barely get to work in the same room. I like you Luna, and you have an amazing future here in the Pack. I would never forgive myself for screwing this up for you.”

Jack’s words made a lot of sense to me, he was right, and it could get really weird if we have something today and find our soulmate in someone else tomorrow. He noticed me pensive.

“Do you think about getting right?” He asked me staring at me with green eyes narrower than normal.

“I can’t imagine myself being further away from here, it’s amazing how in a few hours this has all become my home, it’s all so familiar and I feel at home. I agree with you, let’s let this wave pass. I like your friendship.”

He smiled at me, and him smiling was even more beautiful.

“Friends, then?”

Said extending his hands for a grip, but he faced my outstretched hand, looked me in the eyes and smiled, I collected my hands smiling too.

“Friends.

That night I had another nightmare with the same wolf, he was familiar to me, and he gave me chills. I went down to the cafe and there were more people than usual in that kitchen, I recognized Stephan and two more women from the organization of the Ball.

“Luna, join us, let’s organize the details to make everything perfect.”

Hughes said pulling out a stool for me.

There was a whole schedule for the organization of the Ball, and there were still a few things left to make everything perfect, we had breakfast all together and went to the great hall. Jack and I were fixing the big pine trees that surrounded the entire wooden staircase leading up to the entrance to the hall, we decorated them with lights, and everything was starting to look like an enchanted forest from fairy tales. All the people who were organizing didn’t make any decisions without first consulting Hughes, Alina or Jack.

“Are you nervous? For the Ball?”

Jack asked reaching me for a ribbon of lights.

“Nervous? No, but anxious maybe.”

I replied trying to hide that I was actually really nervous.

“Want to come with me? I can pick you up before I come over here.”

“I would love.”

Arriving with Jack made me feel a little calmer, but I still had a lot of anxiety inside. After organizing, we tasted all the food that would be served that night, and in the afternoon Alina took me to the house to get ready, she took me to her room, which was huge, and was on the top floor of that house, it had exposed wooden beams and the white walls stood out with the wood that was part of the entire decor, it was a large room with a large bed, a closet and a bathroom that were also very large, there we got ready for the big Ball. I put on my red dress, I had forgotten how nice it looked on my body, I tied my blonde hair in a messy bun, and Alina helped me with my makeup, and I helped her with her hair, she was really a very pretty lady, and I I was feeling really wonderful, perhaps like I never felt before, and the time for the Ball was approaching.

I felt my phone vibrate, and it was Jack:

It’s all right? I’d like to stop by there first, but I got involved in organizing the event, I believe we’ll meet at the ball, okay?

Yes of course, see you there ;)

I confess that going without Jack made me a little more nervous, but there wasn’t even time for that, it was time to go, and I really was feeling beautiful, it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a party.

I was excited about it all, and a certain anxiety was part of the feelings, just for the possibility of finding my Soulmeet, of finding my lifelong companion.

I arrived at the Ball with Alina, the place was perfect, all the lights we put on in the morning were worth it, it looked like a fairy tale, full of lights and pine trees, lounges with sofas, and food and drink stations, it was visible that none penny was saved there, given the importance of the party for the Pack.

We went upstairs and Alina found Edward and Hughes, they were talking and drinking each a glass of wine. Suddenly right next to us it happened. A couple looked at each other, and there was silence in the air, everyone there realized, it was Soulmeet, they were transformed, and everyone screamed in celebration. You could feel their love and passion, it was spiritual and beautiful, really magical, nothing could describe it. I just wondered how they were feeling.

“Long live the companions, happiness to the couple.”

Hughes said raising the glass and making everyone raise their glasses too and scream in joy.

They nodded and walked through the forest together.

“Oh my God, how amazing.”

I said without controlling the words from my mouth, it was beautiful to see that.

“See my child, just wait until your turn comes.”

Alina said, getting herself a glass of wine.
