Wolf Pack

Chapter Otto

“Unfortunately he is right, as a member of the family he has the right to attend the ceremony.” Christopher, the Senior Council member who was conducting the ceremony, told us quietly, almost just for the two of us to hear.

I was so sick of it all, of Otto always trying to destroy me, of having already taken so much out of my life. And he was managing to ruin what was supposed to be my perfect day.

“After all, what do you want here? It wasn’t a grandfather present to say he likes me, and to say that the ceremony would mean something to you.” I said it as calmly as I could, I didn’t yell, but I said it loud enough for everyone to hear.

He laughed, he laughed as if it were a joke that he was really interested in following up on something related to my life.

“You’re right Luna, in fact I came here to confront the Council and knowing that some members would be here, it’s closer, I came to return the accusation I received yesterday. Since obviously this investigation on me was just so this bitch who carries my blood could finally have her fairytale ending by getting married today.” Otto screamed and threw some papers on the floor in front of him.

I felt Jack’s blood boil, anger rose from his gut and I couldn’t contain it before he started to speak.

“Immediately withdraw what you said, you bastard, you don’t deserve to call yourself her grandfather...” Jack went down some steps to go towards him, I feared that he would change and lose his mind and this would all become a bloodbath.

“Do you really think it was my fault they investigated you?” Now my words came out as screams, but not hysterical screams, I wanted to get everyone’s attention there, and get Jack out of the trance he was in for hearing me called a bitch.

It worked. Everyone looked at me.

“Of course it was, are you going to tell me you had nothing to do with it?” Otto shouted back, he had anger in his voice. And as much as I didn’t want to, his voice caused me to panic, he had an effect of dread on me, maybe because I saw him take my mother’s life, in front of me.

“If you want to find someone to blame for this, Otto, you can look in the mirror. I confess that I don’t like to look for blame for everything, but absolutely all of this is your fault, including everything that happened to me. But if it weren’t for you and your crazy obsession with prophecy, I would have my parents alive and I’m sure we wouldn’t have crossed your path, you stole all my opportunity to grow up here with my real family, and you stole the opportunity to live with my parents. But still, if you’d kept to yourself, Jack and I would have gotten married anyway, taken over the Pack and that's all.” I spoke and slowly descended the stairs. “But no, you wanted to investigate in depth, you who brought the initial truth of Jack was an exile, thinking that way you would have taken me out of your way, but it was at that moment that you put me in it. ”

I felt my heart beat faster, and even some tears in the back of my eyes, but it was as if the truths needed to be told now.

“And you know? I’ve always said that I don’t have any of your characteristics. I was afraid of showing some trace of your psychopathy, knowing that we have the same genetics. But maybe we have something in common, we’re both obsessed when we’re after something, and I was obsessed with finding out the truth. And so I went after everything I could, to find out what was really behind everything, and to my surprise, guess who it was? You, again had your hand in all of this.” I was now pointing my finger at him, and I got so close that I felt my blood boil, putting it all out made me feel disgusted with him, but it was as if the fear was gradually diminishing, I was feeling that he was not a monster, it was just completely lunatic. “We went after the story behind Jack’s exile, and he was from the East, his grandfather was an incredible alpha for this Pack, but he was framed by his Beta, with whose help? Yours, to make a port to transport your drugs, and you managed to destroy yet another family, exile what was left of it, and almost wipe out an entire pack that had nothing to do with it. Here they are, the wolves of the east, with a ridiculous port that was of no use to them, but they paid for it, they almost went bankrupt for their greed. And yes, all of this made us discover that your “trade” is totally illegal, and that’s why the Council investigated you, now you want to put that blame on me? This burden I do not carry, this burden is all yours.”

My last words nearly took my breath away, and for a few seconds there was just silence. My gaze was fixed on Otto, his gray eyes were riveted on me, it was our only feature in common, the look, the gray eyes, which now faced each other.

“How dare you…” were the words he said before transforming and coming at me.
